I'm also a (to-be) FTM, so no practical advice but our situation is reversed.  We're opting for the full stroller (vista v3, I think) and not a travel system (maybe we'll get one later) simply because we walk alot (2 dogs) and most of the time its on gravel or uneven terrain + the city we live in has a lot of cobblestone that we felt the travel systems we tested just wouldn't hold up for. For newborn stage we felt we really needed the bassinet function, although we also plan to baby carry for the shorter outings and it will work with the infant car seat (BeSafe).  In your situation, if you can find a baby safe travel system - a lot we saw weren't really suitable for newborns, more for 6-12mos+ and all the advice we received was that it's not good for baby to be in the car seat for too long - then I think I'd probably just go with the travel stroller.

I loved my Era so much. Had to get a different stroller because 2 under 2. We got a Vista 3 and while it is more nimble than the Era, it's less smooth to push and bumpier for the kid. You feel so much more of the terrain. We first tried it out at Snugglebugz and actually got it at West Coast Kids.

Also have bugaboo fox 5. Initially had vista 3 on registry but saw so many reviews of it being bulky / heavy.. so replaced it with the fox 5 which we really like. It’s a bit confusing to get used to folding and unfolding it but then again my husband and I are not very handy lol so it may just be us - but it’s a great city stroller as it’s very very smooth with the 4 wheel drive

I’ve used nothing but the vista for my third and she’s more than a year now. I take it in and out of my trunk constantly as I have older kids in school. Perfect to hold everyone’s crap. Basket is so nice I use it getting groceries too often. If I was doing a really large grocery haul I’d plop baby in a carrier before she could sit in the cart seat. I have a travel one and I just don’t use it. I hated getting the infant seat in and out of that. Shit was always stuck and basket is so small. The seat leans back so much the kids just kinda slide and sit awkwardly until they’re way older. Depending on which infant car seat you get you can likely just use the vista frame for the quick errands purpose too and just plop the car seat in with adapters. The size has never bothered me but I live in the suburbs and drive a midsize suv so trunk is big.

Strollers are all about your preference and lifestyle. I love my vista3 but I have three kids and the storage is divine. I always bring so much shit everywhere I can’t fathom going back to less storage while strollers are in my life. I take it in and out of my trunk at least twice a day and it doesn’t bother me but for others they would hate it. I loved the bassinet and used til 8 months. I only use it as a single. If my middle wants to sit I baby wear the youngest. I did have youngest in the bassinet om bottom and middle in toddler seat the first many months when necessary but rarely have both wanting to sit simultaneously so I don’t want to invest in the second seat. I also love my bumbleride era but the basket is smaller i only use it for naps and walks if I’m like walking the dog.

Absolutely. I’ve travelled with my full size stroller and it wasn’t a big deal. I need good basket space. I load my vista 2-4 times a day. It’s fine. I never found value in the travel stroller til I need a stroller and stuff less. Bringing diaper bags, or a carrier, maybe a jacket? Souvenirs? The vista isn’t my first stroller or only one, but it’s all I’ve used this year because I always need the big basket

Got the same stroller as well! Totally fits our lifestyle and converts to double. I know lots of people complain about it was a double but where I live, it’s 80% of the strollers you see everywhere. I see a lot of Cruz and Minu’s too for singles

Absolutely worth it for our lifestyle - people forget this isn’t a travel stroller lol

That’s exactly it! Sometimes the vista gets so much hate but I’m like people are buying it for the wrong reason! Not the strollers fault lol

1000% agreed. I’m a mall walker and I’ll be using it as my grocery cart too. I love it

If you can keep it downstairs, then the Vista is excellent. It is so smooth even on bumpy sidewalks and off the path in parks. The basket is huge, so you can do nice grocery hauls or spend all day outside without having to hold your bags. It’s our everyday stroller, and I can’t recommend it enough. I’ve used it on the train as well; it’s totally fine for elevators but heavy if you have to carry it. I do have a travel stroller (Colugo) as well, and while I like it for out of town, it isn’t great on bumpy sidewalks or street construction.

Honestly, we’ve loved the Vista. We walk multiple miles a day, and you can’t beat it for durability, storage, and longevity. The infant car seat clicks into the frame, so it’s really easy to use for Ubers as needed. We used on a plane and gate checked the stroller frame while using the car seat on the plane itself, and that worked great. The only thing that’s challenging is the size/weight if you’re taking the train—be sure to check the MTA site for accessible stations and elevator status. We have a travel stroller (Colugo) and basically never use it.

Depends on the stroller system you have. We have an Uppababy Vista, and we used the Mesa car seat. It’s so easy to install baseless, so we used it in several cabs and on 2 flights. It snaps into the stroller base, so you just use that as the stroller seat when you leave the cab. That said, if you don’t want to deal with the car seat on the ride home from the hospital, Kid Car is awesome. They do background checks on their drivers and install their car seats based upon your needs. It only cost like $20 more than an Uber for us, and the driver was probably the kindest, safest driver I’ve ever had in New York. One caveat: you do have to reserve 2 hours in advance, but that’s easy enough because you know when you’re being discharged. For us, it was worth taking the stress off our plate for that ride.

Live in Eastern Queens. Have a Vista and it’s a beast/huge. It’s like the SUV of strollers, used it through different neighborhoods in all 5 boroughs and different terrains outside the city during pumpkin and apple picking times/easy trails. When our kid was around 20 months we got a hand down GB Pockit stroller for the times she didn’t want to walk or for city/travel use. The smaller Cruz/Minu may be better for a one fits all solution.

Sounds good to me if you can afford it and you can switch between the two for the purpose of the day. The Vista is big and heavy and has attachments for more children. It’s like an SUV of strollers, heavy duty and can carry a lot of stuff. And should be fine walking around the neighborhood. We live in Queens and used in a variety of neighborhoods from LIC/Jackson Heights/Bayside to the other boroughs as well. Used it as our only stroller for the first year and a half. Car seat wise - Ubers have a car seat option but you have to plan - wait longer/set a pick up time. And be able to close your Vista and lift it to the back if you need the Vista capacity. We had no problem going around Manhattan with the Vista, but have a car and drive with the stroller in the back. If you use subways then you gotta plan and make sure the stations have elevators (I think Google maps has an accessibility feature that plans out the subway routes with elevators). Doona maybe a little lighter so you and your husband can separate it and help each other carrying it up and down. We didn’t fly until she was over 1 year but we were handed down a GB Pockit travel stroller that worked well in Europe, in a few cities, bus and trains. Now if we don’t need the carrying capacity or ruggedness of the Vista we just use that here. The Doona should be good as the second smaller stroller for the first year to be mobile around the city. Few of my friends had it and traveled with it. Don’t have to buy and carry a travel car seat to fly (which we had to do) until they outgrow it. Only thing the Doona I thought was weird was how low it was and we’re not even tall.

Uppababy Vista plus Nuna Pipa RX and TRVL. I definitely used the TRVL more for the first 4 months or so. It weighs nothing! I also had a C section and didn’t have any trouble lifting it. I use the Vista for neighborhood walks and longer outings. It’s getting much more use now that baby is sitting up and super alert.

I actually got the vista and totally regret lol. It’s way too big! We basically exclusively use it for walks at home. We got a travel stroller that we take in the car to stores/on trips etc. minu would’ve been the perfect inbetween and we wouldn’t have needed two strollers!

The vista is a beast, if you’ll be going in and out of the car a lot I’d consider something lighter! I ended up with 2 strollers, 1 light weight travel stroller we keep in the car (yoyo) and the vista which we use strictly for neighbourhood walks (all sidewalks), it’d do fine on dirt roads though. If you need all terrain (trails etc) I wouldn’t get the vista.

It’s nearly 30 pounds! Frame alone is 20. It’s more that it’s super bulky and awkward to lift. It doesn’t feel heavy pushing or anything just lifting

Stroller yes, vista no lol. That thing is a beast. I’d look for a travel stroller on marketplace if you can!

Adhd here too! I found going to store really helped. Found one I loved then obviously had to check out every other brand that exists to make sure nothing was better. Uppababy vista v3 with maxi cosi pebble car seat isofix. Cybex also good.
