I’ve had a side by side since day 1, no regrets. I don’t have any help so wanted a pram that I could fold and lift easily myself, and that would fit in the boot of my small car, plus would be suitable from birth to 3. I got a Valco Snap Duo Elite. I didn’t use car capsules - just rearward facing 0-4 infant car seats. I’m all about the least fuss and juggling possible and found this works for me!
Hey OP, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m glad you’re all ok! I can’t answer your question re: 3 year olds not running, but I am a mum of 2 y.o. Twins and have tried every configuration of pram for two that there is. My main pram is my redsbaby Nuvo. It’s an inline pram, and the best thing about is that you can have two full size seats, so the average toddler won’t grow out of it in a hurry. You can also have bassinet + toddler seat, which I imagine would be great when baby is first born. My favourite thing about it is the basket space, it’s massive, even more so when there’s just one seat on (which is another advantage of the inline, you can convert it to just single use when toddle outgrows needing a pram). Cons are that it can be heavy when fully loaded with kids + misc stuff, and that the seats can’t recline when both are world facing. Neither is a major issue for me. I also have a side by side pram, a second hand valco snap duo. Pros are that it’s lighter to push as the weight is more evenly distributed, and the seats recline all the way back. Cons are that it’s bulky, basket space sucks, and I can’t use it for the rare occasion when I just have one kid. Another good side by side I see recommended is the Babybee Luna. A lot of twin parents start out with a donkey and move to one of the two I’ve referenced due to the sheer size and inconvenience of having to dismantle it to fold it. Your third option is getting any pram you like and sticking a toddler board seat thing on it. Both of mine have tried them out on my sister’s pram, and it is a good option for when they’re old enough to walk but sometimes get tired or you need to get somewhere in a hurry.
A 5.5 yr and 4 yr old with one more on the way. - City Select with 2 seats is my full stroller/all terrain - Thule Chariot 2 bike stroller/also a hiking stroller - Valco Duo Snap for side by side stroller - GB pockit that's a bit wonky so lives at grandparents as a spare - Babyzen Yoyo got as second hand travel stroller I am planning to use mainly for my new one - All purpose wagon that never intended to be a stroller but they all pile in
Look into the Valco snap duo! Both seats lay almost entirely flat independent from one another and the canopies fully cover each seat. Such an amazing stroller and I feel like it doesn’t get enough hype!
You can’t turn the seat to face you but there is a huge peekaboo flap on the canopy so you can look right in. It was super helpful while napping! And because the seats were almost fully flat, you’re looking right at the baby’s face. Also if you use the car seat adapter, baby can face you!
I was ride or die for my Valco Twin stroller. Side by side but fit through a standard doorway, huge basket, massive sunshade for each seat, seats recline almost flat and are safe for newborns, very light for a legit stroller. Seats were also huge too so my 98% kiddo used until 6. I took that thing to multiple countries and can’t say enough good things.
I got the regular duo!
Valco baby snap duo!! Side by side, a lot easier to maneuver than front to back, bassinet attachment, lays nearly flat, narrow enough for standard doorways, easy to fold. I have a 5, 3 and 4 month old and my two oldest sit front to back in one seat on walks a lot lol. Storage isn’t huge but it’s worked well for us
I loved my donkey the first year (so good for pram naps/walks) and then in the second year once I was more comfortable getting out of the house on my own I hated it. Annoying to dismantle and put together every time, plus it was heavy lifting the frame in and out of the car. I got a Valco snap duo to keep in the car for outings and kept the donkey at home just for neighbourhood walks. Also the donkey seats are kind of shallow so people find their kids get too tall for them quite quickly. If you can track down bugaboo buffalo seats they’re a bit deeper. We still do the odd pram nap with the Valco now and it definitely doesn’t steer or push as nicely as the donkey. In those moments I wish I hadn’t sold the donkey.
