"My only comment on Big Agnes in my experience is that the tents are fragile because they are so ultralight. ... I’ve had my Copper Spur poles snap twice. ... it’s not great when you’re in the back country and you’ve got to hold everything together with duck tape just to make it through the rest of the trip."
I have the Bunkhouse4. It is awesome and is absolutely palatial as a single man. Easy to set up solo as well. The rain fly is bomber but limits the ventilation slightly. You'll appreciate it on heavy rain days. I got it on sale for ~$400. Extremely awesome value at that kind of discount.
r/CampingGear • Big Agnes Bunk House or Snow Peak Alpha Breeze? ->The 4 is probably the one for you. You'd be absolutely swimming in the 6. The 4 is 90"x92" for the interior floor. In my mind if you put two cots together and a double mattress you might eat up too much of the center of the tent. You would have room in there but it would be towards one side, where the ceiling height is lower. I feel like it would be taking too much of the valued high-ceiling real estate where you get to stand up to change clothes. How wide is the mattress? How tall are you and the lady?
r/CampingGear • Big Agnes Bunk House or Snow Peak Alpha Breeze? ->>big agnes bunk house 6 I have the 4 and I have no regrets about purchasing it.
r/CampingGear • Tent Upgrade Time - seeking advice ->Big Agnes has a better fly and since I had a chance to compare the two side-by-side, I believe it also has better fabric, better poles and probably better design. But that can be subjective so YMMV
r/CampingGear • Spacious car camping tent recommendations for one person ->Have the Bunk House 4. Perfect size for 1-2 people with cots. I’m just over 6’ and can’t stand full height without my head brushing the top, but it’s comfortable enough to get up and get dressed without slouching.
r/CampingGear • Spacious car camping tent recommendations for one person ->I've got a Big Agnes bunkhouse tent that's got a nice vestibule on the front for deshodding and storing gear. It's been in some heckin rainy weather on scout campouts and never gotten wet inside.
r/CampingGear • Looking for suggestions on 6-8 person tent with screen vestibule ->Basecamp is a great tent with a garbage warranty and repair policy. REI only warranties for 1 year, they don't repair tents and don't sell parts. For this reason alone I would take the Bunkhouse hands down. BA has a lifetime warranty.
r/CampingGear • Big Agnes bunkhouse vs REI base camp tents? ->For being "green focused" not having replacement parts and repair services not not green at all. They have a new CEO and they finally got rid of Eric Artz so we'll see if they improve on this. Even Stoic (backcountry.com brand) and 3F UL Gear (inexpensive Chinese backpacking brand) has a lifetime warranty.
r/CampingGear • Big Agnes bunkhouse vs REI base camp tents? ->I’ve spent a few nights in the Bunk House and it’s a solid tent. My experience was during a windy and rainy storm. The tent handled it well. I currently own a couple of Big Agnes tents and I love them all. No experience with the Snow Peak.
r/CampingGear • Big Agnes Bunk House or Snow Peak Alpha Breeze? ->I have a copper spur 2 person that I’ve taken both my kids in on separate occasions. I didn’t want anything too fragile so stayed away from the platinum models. I’ve since picked up a xmid 1p and obviously use that for solo outings. We are now at the point where we need two 2p shelters and I’m looking to add a xmid 2p+ at some point. We have a 4 person big Agnes tent but it’s a bit heavy and 4 people in a 4 person tent is a little rough when they get older. The best part of the copper spur is pairing it with a two person pad and two person quilt. The entire floor becomes a bed and is very comfortable. The two person quilt keeps the jimmy legs in without having to carry two sleeping bags, so for the person carrying it saves a good bit of weight. If I had to start over I’d probably make the same decisions. A freestanding tent is a bit easier if you aren’t used to trekking pole tents. My first outing with my xmid was on hard packed ground in the desert where it was really difficult to get stakes in the ground. The tent blew over during a thunderstorm that evening. If I were going on the same trip again I’d probably just take the copper spur. So for me it was about having some flexibility and diversity of functions when building out my gear closet.
r/Ultralight • Backpacking with a toddler: Why did you go ultralight—or not—when choosing your tent? ->I had a bad experience with the north face 6 person tent, 2nd time using it and the bug netting on the doors started ripping at the seams. I had to send it in and they did fix it but beware. It’s a shame cause my other tents from them lasted at least a decade before starting to fall apart. We also have a Big Agnes 4 person tent since 2018 and it’s been flawless.
r/camping • Looking for a solid 6-person tent — any recommendations? ->I have a Big Agnes. Love the tent and love the brand.
r/overlanding • Tent Recommendations ->Big Agnes, MSR, and Nemo are 3 of the best tent brands available. I ran the warranty desk for an outdoor gear company, and saw the least amount of warranty issues with those brands. They’re not inexpensive, but, you get what you pay for. I have a Big Agnes tent that’s at least 10 years old, we use it regularly and only have to hose the dirt off. It’s amazing. Nemo is awesome too, I know a lot of people with Nemo tents and they love them. I just got an MSR 3 person tent and absolutely love it. Definitely get a 2 person tent. The general rule is to take however many people will be sleeping in the tent, and add 1. So 1 person = 2 person tent, 2 ppl = 3 person tent and so on. A 2 person tent is more comfortable for having your gear inside the tent, changing your clothes, etc. If you don’t plan to go backpacking with it, I’d get a 3-4 person tent just for the space.
r/CampingGear • What brands or types of tents should I be looking to get? ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS
