What type of camping are you more likely to do I had a family full canvas 10p black wolf turbo plus 300 tent absolutely love this tent for car camping but it’s heavy at 45kg and massive for storage Takes about 1hour to fully set up with all pegs and guys all pegged out This is only for car camping I’ve now downsized to a darche dusk to dawn double swag just for me and my wife this is only for car camping as well 5 min set up Plenty of room weighs about 10kg maybe a bit more but it still around the same size when it packs down and takes up the same storage space If I could do it again I would get a lightweight hiking tent or ultralight hiking tent these things weigh roughly 1-2kg for a 2p-3p tent They take up less space and storage and can use for either car camping or hiking/solo adventures The swag comes with a mattress the other tents you will need a mattress so get one that’s well insulated
Good on you for getting out with the family! I would suggest marketplace purchases for an initial setup, then work out what works/doesn’t work. Storage in your vehicle is also a starting point, as some gear gets bulky, especially for 5. My suggestions…. Blackwolf turbo tent 3mx3m plus (has extra room) sleeping bags for the kids combined with the small fold up stretchers (oztrail does one that packs up like a camp chair) I’d avoid air bed for you two, they are a pain and don’t last. See what you’d be comfortable with, and get two matching sleeping bags that zip together to increase your chances of a snuggle. We keep 5 pillows in a duffel bag that compresses and dedicated for camping. Two adult chairs and 3 adult festival chairs. (They are low to the ground and the kids won’t tip out of them like normal kids camp chairs, also you can use them if you are sitting with your feet in a river) A fold up table, simple gas stove and make up a box of pots, pans, cups bowls, cutlery etc. we keep paper plates bowls and cups for the last day so we don’t have to do dishes before going home. Start with a good quality esky as they will keep ice for 3 days and be sufficient for most camping trips. Keep cooking simple, unless you are camping with a fire and enjoy baking/roasting etc as part of the fun. We pre cook meals and freeze, so as much is prepped as possible.
Second hand blackwolf turbo tent from marketplace. There are a few different sizes
I’ve got a Coleman excursion - it’s withstood some pretty serious weather and I like it because if I have to put it up in the rain it stays dry inside. Have wrecked dome tents I could stand up in in the rain. Also have had a black wolf turbo - lasted about 10 years and then tapes came off etc - could manage to erect/pull down that one easily too. Coleman less bulky. https://www.bcf.com.au/p/coleman-excursion-instant-tent-4-person/623683.html?utm_content=paidsearch-pmax&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20489192054&gbraid=0AAAAADkTRtGHw8e6Ozfi-Fg9Xb6f8FPGo&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2PemlZSjkgMVzR2DAx2g6SHKEAQYASABEgLhE_D_BwE I also like the vestibule for stashing chair etc overnight
