We have two cots and use the [Coleman 6 Instant Cabin](https://www.coleman.com/tents-canopies/tents-by-size/6-person-instant-cabin/SAP_2206913.html). It's not very light, but it's really comfortable and it goes up fast. It''s been really reliable. For some reason, the rain fly is sold separately and you really need it. This is with two cots pushed together, but you could do one on either side with an aisle up the middle. And sorry the rain fly is on wonky, we were in a hurry. We have had it almost ten years and only had one problem with it, after about five years the door zipper wasn't holding. I took a pair of pliers and crimped the zipper tighter on each side and it fixed that problem. https://preview.redd.it/6sey3srkagee1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffddd95e5d66d72e4a22fdb959596026ddca9740

I’ve found you need to double the tent size for example 2 person fits one comfortably 4 person fits two etc. For reference I use a Coleman 6 person instant cabin tent. I solo camp with my two cats. I fit a wide cot two small tables their litterbox . Plenty of room. For you and your wife go for a 6 person . The price difference is negligible and comfort is key

I would recommend a Coleman Instant Cabin. 4 person or 6 person. Make sure you get the rain fly accessory. I have used this tent in all conditions including heavy snow and it’s surprisingly durable for the cost. I’m 6’4” and can stand up in it. https://www.coleman.com/tents-canopies/tents-by-size/6-person-instant-cabin/SAP_2157803.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=oe_col_DTCSearch_2024&utm_term=conversion&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD0GYNrORZoDaJ5GCrNIcIWJ13RZc&gclid=Cj0KCQiAu8W6BhC-ARIsACEQoDBPykcFSxwrB7SB-OJ7JRGrplMf_e2pFKKYiHMkRC7Dpc9WNorqo60aAlACEALw_wcB&actionPoint=Show

I have a Kelty 2 man tent with double vestibule from the mid 90s that I still rock for a long hike-in camping weekend. I love that thing. BUT my folks got my family a 6 person Coleman “insta” tent that I now use for car camping, even if I’m the only one in it with friends having their own tent. Standing up in and having a camp chair that stays in that tent all weekend is a freaking game changer.

Gazelles look great and many people have mentioned them, but I have used a Coleman 6 person instant for years and it's been great.

We got a Coleman Cabin for our family of 6. The screened in porch with a floor is probably the best thing ever.

I have one of the basic coleman pop up tents, 6P. Reading your comment has me interested in upgrading as it's used quite a lot. Looking at the pictures of the core online it looks to be a pretty identical design. Do you think the quality of the core would be worth upgrading? Mine isn't super great quality but has held up for four years of use, it's maybe slightly better than basic big box store tent quality.

I bought a $90 6 man Coleman that works great. And if my dog accidentally puts a hole somewhere I’m not overly upset.

Yes! It’s a game changer. We have an older Coleman 6 person tent for car camping opposed to a half dome for backpacking. When we’re feeling particularly bougie, we’ll bring an air mattress with us and put that down inside of our bigger tent. Makes for a much better sleeping experience

My husband and I use a 6 person coleman tent with a 6' center height. We sleep on cots and like the extra space.

I have a 6p Coleman I got from Goodwill for $20 that I used for my two daughters and me. We each had an air mattress/pad and it was really comfy. Gotta remember that if you aren't comfortable, why are you doing it? Only reason not to get one is if you are limited on space. Also, think of this as your hotel room. If you are willing to spend $200-400 for a weekend hotel getaway why not spend that on a nice tent that you'll use over and over. That being said, I have since upgraded to a king size roof tent and have never slept better, lol.

Wouldn’t go to big. Honestly 6p is a great mid range the Coleman is wicked. I just upgraded to a 10p Blackwolf 450 and honestly I prefer the 6p and I have a family of 4. We put two double mattresses in the 6p with a bit of room left for clothes. The Coleman also has a small vestibule we had a mat and shelves for medicine books sunblock etc. Takes me about 45mins to setup the 10p with a bit of mucking around the 6p about 20minutes.

This is the way, I did the same thing and regretted it. I guess you really have to experience it before you know. We have family of 4 and 6p was great.

Dude, my first two tents were coleman. Shit man, I still got them and they still work great. Oldest one close to 15 years. I went from a 4P Coleman to 6P Coleman when I had kids. So if you can get one in good condition or buy it.. go for it. I got my coleman sundome for like a 100 bucks. If you don't want a coleman, you can sang one of these from costco for a 100 bucks - https://www.costco.com/core-6-person-lighted-dome-tent.product.100892929.html Now a days I have a Marmot 6P, recognize that this is 500$ tent. Don't spend this kind of money for your first tent unless you have money to spare or plan on going a lot of camping. The difference between a 100$ tent vs a $500 tent are: - More indoor pockets - High quality tent poles - No snag YKK zippers - Easy to pack bag - better ventilation But from a core tent/sleeping POV, its the same. IF and WHEN you are ready to go backpacking, it would be good to invest in lighter smaller gear. A decent backpacking tent is pretty expensive.
