I have had a 4 person pop up from Coleman for almost ten years and it’s still in pretty good shape. Not great, but honestly if it starts storming I’m just going to get in my truck and either sleep there or leave. I (and most people) do not realistically need an insane level of quality. I get wanting nice stuff so you don’t have to worry about it, but it’s certainly not a necessity.
Oh yeah, I'm with you on that: I have a tiny 1-person for if I'm hiking. The six person is a Coleman EZ pop-up, because I can't be bothered with the poles and cables and things. (Also I'm a bit of a glamper if I'm car-camping, so it's just an opinion of my taste).
If you're lazy like me, the Coleman easy pop-up has been through everything. Super easy, no poles. <- that as in posts, I have nothing against Polish people. I also do not have any connection to Coleman. But for sure: **Get a bigger tent than advertised.** I'm a single person, sometimes with a second person, and a 6-person is still a bit tight. I like to have my kingdom inside. When it storms, I know I can be away from the edges, when sasquatch or the boogieman are outside (*always happens*) I know I'm away from the edge. You might want to stand up to sort your life out in the morning. Go big. Thing is, the bag it comes in is about the same heft as the 2 or 4 and so on. Based on your description, you can definitely set it up by yourself. I had crutches once and did it. Oh use a memory foam mattress with more sheets n' pillows. Always pick high ground for drainage for weather. And browse this sub for many, many recommendations almost weekly. Have fun in Tennessee!
I had a Coleman and replaced it with the t4. It does not compare. More expensive. Bugs get in because the floor is not connected. Its much smaller. The door is very awkward. I returned it.
Like you, I had a Coleman pop-up for 12 years with no issues. I am also worried about the quality now. I got the Blackberry Skylodge and the poles snapped. It was an awesome tent tho, the bug doors were so nice. I didn't like the T4 for the reasons I mentioned. I now do not have a tent and no clue what to do.
I got the Coleman pop up tent and my dog immediately ripped it. I can’t imagine this is better quality than Coleman. Hard pass.
Setting up family tents isn’t fun, let alone by your self. If I was to disregard your want for space, I suggest a Coleman pop up tent. They come in different sizes and will make your life easy. If it has to be one you shortlisted, I’d go the air tent.
Always go up 1-2 people. We like the Coleman and the Core pop up style tents that take less than 5 minutes to set up. Hubby and I just bought a 2 room 9 person Core with easy set up. Large but we love it. One room for large Core cots and plenty of room to get around - and past the divider section we have our suitcases, changing area, camping boxes of kitchen and other items and an emergency 2am potty 🤣.
The one touch pop-up then twist to close types can be deceptively difficult to close unless you're used to that twist and turn type. I'm shit at it and broke one so I got an "instant up" type that you can push down to open up squeeze to close. You can see an example if you Google: インスタントアップサンシェード
I got mine at Kohnan like 4 years ago for 6000yen I think? It's still going strong with 2 kids and multiple outings over the years.
I got a Coleman 4 person tent that’s advertised as a “quick setup” tent. I can put it up by myself and it fits a twin air mattress with room to spare for gear. It was under $100 on sale. Something I look for is clips to attach the tent poles instead of sleeves to slide the poles through. Much easier and faster to use clips vs sleeves. Get some extra lines for guy lines and some quality stakes and you should be good to go.
