I camp approximately every 1-2 months in Victoria, and my Coleman Instant Up 4P gold has served me very well for several years now. Still in good nick. Find it easy to put up on my own as a short person. Have used it winter camping (not alpine area though, but in June this year past Ballarat it was -3) and it's fine with a good warm sleep set-up. Can't speak for the other option you asked about.
I have had the Coleman Instant Up 4p for over 6 years now, camping in Victoria in all seasons approximately 10 times a year, and it's been fantastic. Have copped torrential rain, storms and extremely windy weather and it remains sturdy and waterproof. Mine is the regular version, not the dark room - I prefer waking up to natural light also. It is still in great condition after so many years. Recommend!
Coleman gold series instant up is great!
I started out with that Coleman Gold series tent when I first got into camping couple years ago, and it’s been super reliable for me. I’ve taken it through some pretty wet weekends and it’s always kept me dry. The setup is a breeze and the space makes it way more comfortable, especially when you’ve got a lot of stuff to keep organized. Just make sure to practice setting it up at home before your trip so you’re not fumbling around at the campsite. Also, I think the extra space really does make a difference when you’re camping solo with all your gear.
Ok so I got the Coleman 4p instant up dark room tent and mate it’s a ripper it’s pretty easy to put up quite heavy but that might not be a problem for you? It’s very tall I think 190cm so can stand up in it this is the tent https://www.snowys.com.au/instant-up-4p-lighted-northstar-darkroom-tent I love it and you can fit a double and a single bed in it with a gap in the middle about 20cm so plenty wide and the foot room is amazing like 30-40cm So I would recommend this one and I have heard that they are stronger than the oztrail ones 🤷. I
if you are getting older (or just want to have an easy setup) go a Coleman instant up tent
If the budget can afford it, stepping up from the Coleman Silver to the Gold/Northstar range is a significant increase in quality and experience. Treat it well and it will last for years.
As a single adult scout leader I run a 4 person instant Coleman tent. I sleep on my own 95% of the time. In a pinch I could provide room for another leader. I have a 6-person but it’s way too big for me by myself. Before the Coleman I had a 4 person malamoo mega that I really liked.
