I have the Coleman instant 6p tent. It fits 3 twin air mattress’s or 1 queen 1 twin. I’ve used it solo, and with 1-2 others. Easy set up. Does not come with the rain fly. Repacking is not fun, but found that using straps helps getting it back in its case. Hope this info helps. And it’s tall enough to stand in. Also might want to look into the canopy type tent that has the tent attachments that go around. And allows room to hang out in the middle. Double the tarp size for top cover and the ground tarp same size as the bottom of the tent.

I have a Kelty 2 man tent with double vestibule from the mid 90s that I still rock for a long hike-in camping weekend. I love that thing. BUT my folks got my family a 6 person Coleman “insta” tent that I now use for car camping, even if I’m the only one in it with friends having their own tent. Standing up in and having a camp chair that stays in that tent all weekend is a freaking game changer.

Gazelles look great and many people have mentioned them, but I have used a Coleman 6 person instant for years and it's been great.

If your taking tents 1. Black wolf turbo 240 tent is great for 4p plus storage also has a awning it’s up in 30 seconds lots of room to stand up in but by the time you put the fly on and guy everything out it’s a good 30 mins I personally have the turbo plus 300 I had young kids and mum and father in law used to come it’s a massive tent hence me recommending it but if I could do it again I’d get the 240 I’m bias to this tent had it for 12 years never missed a beat and I like the style This is glamping 2. Oztent rv5 a close 2nd for me 3. Coleman instant up These above tents are for car camping only some destinations and sites require you to walk in and you ain’t walking these guys in Swags Want an actual 5 min set up get a double swag ive just recently downsized to darche dusk to dawn double swag plenty of space inside I wasn’t worried about being claustrophobic but I did worry about the sag in the walls and the mattress as my wife has a bad back and she didn’t complain and the walls didn’t seem to sag in for me Really simple and easy to set up literally like a min I feel like you don’t need a bed frame just extra weight and space to carry If your worried at about sagging grab a pool noodle and wack it in the middle like a arch but we didn’t need it To change clothes either lay down in swag or change in car If you need shade or protection from rain either gotta get a awning or a couple hiking tarps tarps (Alton)and guy ropes and poles pegs (groundhogs) Some swags are out of control and they more like a tent and defeats the purpose of a swag which is simplicity so don’t get carried away simple is best Hiking tents Want versatility of both car camping and the ability to walk into a camp because of the destination like newnes plateau hiking tents is the way to go very light simple easy to use and probably for your purpose you would want a free standing tent I would recommend getting a 3p for 2 people for space as 2p is a snug sardine fit I really like the Mont Moondance tent it’s pretty bombproof there is ultralight non free standing which require hiking poles or zflick poles to set it up like the durston x-mid 2 Mont only have one sale a year Black Friday which just passed All of the tents except the swag require mats And sleeping bags or quilts The higher the r value of your mat the more warmer the insulated the mat is and this is the key to a warm nights sleep as the coldness comes from the ground up So get a really good quality mat 1st before the sleeping bag Lights are very important coz you can’t see by the moonlight Get a larger tent for 1p-2p up for the amount of people camping to store bags and stuff inside And an icebox not esky to keep things chilled 40-60l is a good size chill the box down 3-4 days prior to leaving with bags of ice (not meth) from the servo let that cool down and melt drain the water once in a while then chill all the products in fridge/freezer before wack in ice box and top up with ice right after 1-2 bags will do that will last like up to 7 days as long as you draining water out I’ve lasted 2 weeks with an icebox as long as top up the ice and drain water at blue waterholes campground These are things I wish I knew and learnt earlier on and over time Once you start down this path you will eventually own all 3 sets ups like me multiple tents, mats and bags and quilts Enjoy

Get one you can stand in or almost. Coleman ‘’instant tent’’ is not hard to set up. Best by tarp for rain fly so rain doesn’t go in windows

we sleep in the back of a yukon/minivan, with a standard 10x10 slant leg pop-up canopy over/next to it with our crap in the front seat and in totes under the canopy. this works fine because we can't drive the truck anywhere. recently at a campground on a gulf coast barrier island we borrowed a coleman instant tent that was a perfect fit under our popup and kept everything in it. we still slept in the truck, with a portable a/c sat in the front seat to manage humidity/temp, but having a for-sure dry place to keep everything and be able to stand up/ hang out/change in was great. both around 40y/o. wife prefers to sleep in something with hard walls. we also have some small vintage campers but we often have to tow a utility trailer full of gear or don't want to pay the mpg penalty of towing the camper.

I have one of those coleman instant tents and highly recommend it for car camping. Sets up super fast because all of the poles are attached. It does not fold down small though. I go for comfort car camping now. So if im not using a queen sized air mattress, im using a cot. The nice thing about the cot is that my Bag can be stored underneath and free up more space. Comfortably sleeps 3 people and a dog. Oh, i can also stand up in it. Im 5’10” and its really nice to be able to do that.

If casual and your car is nearby, the Coleman instant someone mentioned is awesome. My kid could assemble it in like 5 minutes by 6 years old and it’s tall enough for me (5’4”). Also that bad boy had been through nephews and nieces and drunk friends and is remarkably unscathed.  Bonus points: can fit an air mattress. Because sometimes I feel fancy

I started with a simple dome tent. Easy to put up, but terrible in bad weather. Upgraded to a Coleman instant up. Much better than the dome tent, but much more difficult to pack down. The pole design means they are under twist pressure, and after I'd replaced the third set of poles I decided to go inflatable. Bought a Zempire Evo. Only slightly bigger than the instant up, but the tent design means it stands much taller. The inflatable ribs are super sturdy, can't imagine how you would puncture them. Easy to put up and also pack down. Really happy with my choice.

The Coleman and the Zempire are both 3 room tents (10 person, but of course not really10 ). The Zempire is slightly bigger when packed but weighs 6Kg less than the Coleman. We do car camping in winter, so size not so much of a factor. Both of them I can put up on my own, but the inflatable is much quicker. When it is up it's taller and wider than the Coleman. We found that in bad weather the Coleman was too cramped whilst we crowded in and kept out of the rain. Double the price of course, but worth it in our situation. Coleman was a real pain packing down - aligning the tent poles so it it could fold over was tricky, and the poles kept breaking. No worry now with the Zempire.

I have one of the basic coleman pop up tents, 6P. Reading your comment has me interested in upgrading as it's used quite a lot. Looking at the pictures of the core online it looks to be a pretty identical design. Do you think the quality of the core would be worth upgrading? Mine isn't super great quality but has held up for four years of use, it's maybe slightly better than basic big box store tent quality.

Yes! It’s a game changer. We have an older Coleman 6 person tent for car camping opposed to a half dome for backpacking. When we’re feeling particularly bougie, we’ll bring an air mattress with us and put that down inside of our bigger tent. Makes for a much better sleeping experience

My husband and I use a 6 person coleman tent with a 6' center height. We sleep on cots and like the extra space.

I have a 6p Coleman I got from Goodwill for $20 that I used for my two daughters and me. We each had an air mattress/pad and it was really comfy. Gotta remember that if you aren't comfortable, why are you doing it? Only reason not to get one is if you are limited on space. Also, think of this as your hotel room. If you are willing to spend $200-400 for a weekend hotel getaway why not spend that on a nice tent that you'll use over and over. That being said, I have since upgraded to a king size roof tent and have never slept better, lol.

For car camping I like Coleman 6p tents. They’re heavy but durable. I use mine for 2 adults on a queen sized deep air mattress. Have two dogs, a Shepard and a beagle each with their own beds. Plenty of room for us

Wouldn’t go to big. Honestly 6p is a great mid range the Coleman is wicked. I just upgraded to a 10p Blackwolf 450 and honestly I prefer the 6p and I have a family of 4. We put two double mattresses in the 6p with a bit of room left for clothes. The Coleman also has a small vestibule we had a mat and shelves for medicine books sunblock etc. Takes me about 45mins to setup the 10p with a bit of mucking around the 6p about 20minutes.

This is the way, I did the same thing and regretted it. I guess you really have to experience it before you know. We have family of 4 and 6p was great.

Dude, my first two tents were coleman. Shit man, I still got them and they still work great. Oldest one close to 15 years. I went from a 4P Coleman to 6P Coleman when I had kids. So if you can get one in good condition or buy it.. go for it. I got my coleman sundome for like a 100 bucks. If you don't want a coleman, you can sang one of these from costco for a 100 bucks - https://www.costco.com/core-6-person-lighted-dome-tent.product.100892929.html Now a days I have a Marmot 6P, recognize that this is 500$ tent. Don't spend this kind of money for your first tent unless you have money to spare or plan on going a lot of camping. The difference between a 100$ tent vs a $500 tent are: - More indoor pockets - High quality tent poles - No snag YKK zippers - Easy to pack bag - better ventilation But from a core tent/sleeping POV, its the same. IF and WHEN you are ready to go backpacking, it would be good to invest in lighter smaller gear. A decent backpacking tent is pretty expensive.
