For me it’s space and headroom. I’m 6’4” tall so I want at least a 6’ center height. My Girlfriend and I use a Coleman Skydome Tent with Screen Room this allows us to store our gear under the screen part and keep our tent open. The tent can hold two queen air mattress. My GF and I use cots and in the middle is a small table and a chair for comfort. We have plenty of room to get up put our clothes on or relax inside which can be nice if the weather outside is nasty. We’ve all had those days when the weather man gets it wrong and 1 day of you 3 day trip is just wet, cold and miserable. Having enough space makes everything better. There is a few different tent manufacturers out there. I’ve always done good by Coleman. Only other tent I would recommend is Kelty. I’ve sold camping gear for the past 35+ years. I’ve seen most of the tents that are offered on the market firsthand. I’ve tested and abused them all to find the best solution for the common car camper. Only thing I’ve come across is when you buy tents that are so big that there rain fly doesn’t always provide enough protection from bad weather. The other reason why many tents fall is because people don’t stake down and deploy their rain fly correctly. The rain fly has two uses weather protection and airflow. If not deployed properly most tents end up getting wet inside and the tent doesn’t breathe properly which causes condensation build up inside the tent. If you can try to stay away from tents that are 15’ x 12’ these tents generally don’t fit on most camp sites and can be difficult to setup. If you want a big tent that is 15’ x 15’ get a canvas tent these tents are built to last and provide proper protection from all types of weather conditions. Just remember always remove one person from your tent if you plan on bring your gear inside the tent with you. So you buy a 3 person tent take 1 person out it will sleep 2 people and your gear. 3 people camping get a 4 person tent, 4 people camping get a 6 person tent. Trust me you’ll enjoy you camping experience when you have enough room for everyone and their gear. If it’s 2 adults and 2 kids I would still recommend going with a 6 person tent. This way you don’t have to worry about space. Happy Travels 🌲🌲⛺️🔥🌲🌲[Skydome Tent with Screen Room](https://a.co/d/3pGx7Wi)

I love my Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof. I have been using my tent now since the release. Love the size of the 6 person tent which gives us plenty of space for my girlfriend and I sleeping on cots with a small table and chairs inside and a center height of 6 feet which is awesome because i don’t want to be leaning over trying to put my clothes on. Plus there is a screen porch added to the tent for more storage space. This is where my Labrador sleeps. The rain fly if full and covers the entire tent. I have been a 6 day camping trip with 3 days of heavy rain and winds and the tent never failed. Right now the tent is on sale through Amazon. Hands down the Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof. I purchased mine when it was first released and I chose the 6 person tent because I wanted lots of room. I’m 6’4” tall so having a tent to stand up in is a huge bonus for me. My Girlfriend and I sleep on Cots so what we do is put a couple chairs and a small table inside the tent which allows us to sit and play games or read at night or during bad weather. This tent has a full rain fly that goes all the way to the ground on all sides. Plus you get a screen porch attached to the tent which is great place to store your gear. Dimensions 10’5” L x 12’5” W x 6’ H. Right now it’s on sale at Amazon. Definitely keep you under $500 cap. I’ve used my tent 18 times in the past year and a half. Many times in bad weather conditions. We stayed dry and comfortable at one location for 5 days 3 of those days were heavy rain and winds. I recommend you get some screw in tent stakes for bad weather they really help hold the tent down all allow for full ventilation as well. I haven’t found the instant tents to hold up well in bad weather conditions. This is my current tent for the past 2 years. I’ve used it 26 times already and absolutely loved it. The rain fly is all the way down for full waterproof coverage. [Coleman 6 person Skydome](https://a.co/d/7irT4lW)

Big Agnes would be my first choice if I had to choose between the two that you are suggesting. Another choice is what I’ve been using for about 2 years and that is the Coleman 6 person Skydome. I’ve been very impressed with the design and space provided. Unlike many tent this is a tent that offers a full waterproof rain fly and a screen room that is attached to the tent which allows a option for gear storage or extra sleeping space. Plus being around $255 is even better for your budget. [Coleman Skydome 6 person](https://a.co/d/3N7mzxx)

If you love the Naturehike Dune Hot Tent for the tall porch but want a smaller footprint, you can consider the Coleman WeatherMaster or Coleman Skydome with Screen Porch. Both have covered, waterproof porch areas where you can stand and take off your wet gear, and they fit 2-3 people comfortably with room for an air mattress. These are budget-friendly car camping options with easy setup and good weather protection. Check out [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/KeepThisInMind/comments/1mdmrgb/reddit_2_person_best_camping_tents_recommendations/) for more detailed reviews and tips. I hope it 'll help you find the perfect tent for your needs!

Our Troop has been using 4-person and 6-person Coleman Skydome tents for the last several years. The boys are rough on tents, so priorities are cost and ease of repair. Positives: - The tents themselves are quick to set up and pack away. - They are well ventilated. - Inexpensive and reasonably durable. Negatives: - They are not especially light, weighting between 8 and 13 lbs. - Poles are attached to the tent, which makes them easy to pack but could be a problem if a pole needs to be replaced. - Can handle rain when set up correctly, but may allow in water in a severe storm. On that last point, it's hard for me to provide a completely objective assessment because we have had Skydome tents become soggy in very bad weather, but this may be because of boys leaving the vent on the door open rather than issues with the tent itself.

All of these are car camping tents. The Wanona and Homestead are 13 lbs, and they're absolutely massive when packed. The skydome 6p is enormous and weighs 19 lbs. You wouldn't ever want to hike with these tents. The North Face tents suffer from outdated design philosophies. There are no clips. You have to feed all of the poles through sleeves. The fabric can bunch up, so you have to be mindful while feeding the poles through. Slow to set up, slow to take down. The Wanona 4P performs well in the rain. It's lovely in the rain, but not so terrific to set up or break down in the rain. These taller tents don't do well in high winds. They're like giant sails, and the poles tend to bend. Questions to ask yourself: What type of camping do you envision for yourself? How many people will you be camping with? Do you plan on thru-hiking? Your ideas about camping will evolve as you gain experience with equipment.

6 person Coleman skydome. Really nice tent with a full tub style floor. Easy to set up. Then get a second one when the kids grow out of it. 6 person tents are comfortable for 2 adults with either a cot or an air mattress each. If you drop to a 4 person tent adults can't stand in the middle and it's a little tight for 2 adults of they use cots/air mattresses.

Agreed. Coleman dome tents are a great starting point for family camping. If you end up going more frequently or decide you want specific features (weight/temperature ratings/etc), you can always upgrade later. I love my Coleman Skydome tent. It's a little more expensive than the standard dome, but still affordable. It sets up quick, is a little more square shaped to give more headroom, and has large mesh panels that are great for airflow or watching the night sky when the rainfly is off.

I love my Skydome. There are fancier tents out there, but it was affordable and has stood up to rain and wind, as well as being pretty breathable on hot nights. On clear nights (and in less crowded campgrounds) you can remove the rain fly and look at the stars through the fully mesh top.

Coleman Sundome or Skydome. Check out an Ollie’s if you have one. The other Coleman tents will probably be just fine too. But I would avoid the instant up - sets up fast but leaks so badly they made an additional rainfly for it.

Try a Coleman Sundome or Skydome from Ollie’s, blackout if you can get it. I’ve bought both to festivals with multiple severe thunderstorms and was much dryer than people who brought much more expensive tents. The bathtub floor will be much better in bad weather than this tent. Sometimes you can get a dud Coleman that leaks in one spot, but that’s only happened to me once. Just set it up and test it in rain before your event. I will say avoid the instant tent, that thing is so bad they sell an aftermarket rainfly to fix it.

I actually own BOTH of these exact tents. AMA. The Skydome is way tougher than it looks. I have camped in in the summer and literally on a mountainside in a blizzard. Survived all. Lots of people don't know that it's CRITICAL for a tent to properly stay dry and drain water away from you, nothing should be touching the sides of the tent. if you follow this rule you will love it. I dare call this a 3 season tent. cabin: a fun summery light tent to see the stars. gigantic. have leant it to a couple families. fits a king bed. Is absolute dog crap in the wind. It's also nice in rain. I did an extended rainy weekend in this one and we were able to sit under the little porch area and stay dry and enjoy the rain I've never put a tarp over either of these and just used the included rainfly. Again, not touching the sides of the tent is key to stay dry. Always used a tarp underneath.

$400 is overkill. Id say get two 6 person Coleman dome tents instead of one really big one. It'll give you a lot more versatility and convenience at half the price Besides what other people have said, making sure your tent is properly setup is the #1 most important thing to make it waterproof. Making sure all parts are taut and there's nowhere for water to pool. I've used everything from $40 Walmart tents to expensive backpacking tents in some pretty terrible storms (including every forest since 2017) and I've never had a tent leak. I've never used waterproof spray but I suppose it couldn't hurt

Meh, I usually get at least a few years out of my Coleman's, and that's with not taking super good care of them either. Realistically, OP asking this question here means they're not super experienced and are relatively new to camping. They probably don't know how much of a PITA setting up a large tent can be, especially when you don't have that many people. A Coleman is a great entry level tent where you can decide from there if you want to make a bigger investment (I promise I don't work for coleman)

I don’t know what’s available in UAE, but I like the Coleman 6-person dome tents. There are a few variations on a theme, but they’re what I use for my family and for my Girl Scout Troop. The interior is 10x10 so it fits 4 cots or 2 queen size blow ups. I can stand up in them (5’7”). The dome tents are easy to pitch. They fold down into a reasonable size and are easy to transport.

The nice thing about dome tents is that they all pitch the same. I have a little kid one that I use to teach the process even as young as 5, and then when they’re taller and can physically manage a larger tent, they already know what they’re doing,

This is a great idea.  Coleman is stupid easy to set up and huge and the blowup beds are key. If you already have a vehicle and don’t have to hike in too far, this is so easy and takes a lot of stress away.  I have a big family and actually sunk money into a very fancy 6 person tent. That we never use (as a family) ever. We use the stupid Coleman at least twice a month in the summer and fall. It’s easy. It’s big. You don’t have to think about it. Also the kids like to set it up for at-home “camping” because they can put it up themselves

Several recommendations for the Coleman tents. Of the two models mentioned, Sundome and Skydome, the Skydome is the far better tent in my opinion. The Skydome has an all clip suspension, while the Sundome has partial pole sleeves. An all clip suspension tent is much easier to pitch solo than a tent that uses sleeves. Stake the corners, assemble the poles, insert poles in the corners. Unzip the door, take off your shoes, step into middle of tent, clip the top clip over both poles. Attach the rest of the clips and add the fly. The Sundome, you'll have to raise the tent body as you insert the poles in the corners. That adds weight and resistance. Lastly, the Skydome has a full coverage rainfly, while the Sundome only comes down halfway. Spend a little more and get the superior tent.

I got the Coleman skydome last year (finally got over borrowing dad’s old Eddie Bauer tent 🤣) and it’s been an absolutely worthy investment. The porch has drainage holes / mesh to let water escape if needed, it makes the sleeping area of the tent much easier to keep bug and rock free, gave the dog somewhere to lounge and was over all an easy set up. They often get flak for being on the cheaper side or being a "dad tent", but Coleman makes great, sturdy tents for the average car camper. If you're not camping in extreme weather they will suit your needs very well. I just retired my 5+ year old Coleman Sundome after 60+ nights due to a tear and will be replacing it with... a Coleman Skydome.

Go with the Coleman. You are a beginner that plans on camping a couple times a year. It’s fine. When the forecast calls for significant rain put a tarp under the tent (no exposed tarp) and a large tarp string over your site. The hat not only gives your tent extra protection but gives you useable space out of the rain. This is all presuming it is camping near your vehicle and weight is not a significant factor.

Will best to get an 8 person tent but maybe you can get by with a 6 person. Consider the size of your mattresses to see if the floor dimensions will work. Something like the Coleman Skydome or Northface Wawona. I think it’s nice to have a vestibule so you can dry/clean the dogs off before getting in the tent. For technique, don’t set up in the lowest spot on your site/depressions in the ground even if that seems the flattest. Get a tarp or a specific tent footprint to go under your tent. If it’s a tarp, fold it up so the edges are just under the tent. That way water will go under the tarp and not between the tarp and your tent.

Is it a tent that can fit 3 people, or is it marketed as a 3-person tent. I find that you basically have to halve the number of people advertised to fit in a tent to get a comfortable experience with space for gear and to be sleeping without being up against the side walls (which can cause moisture to transfer inside of the tent). Hiking/backpacking tents are tiny to pack and are lightweight. You can get three of them and still have room to spare compared to my Coleman rent that is advertised as a 6 person tent but sleeps three plus gear better than it fits 6 sardines.

I have the Coleman sky dome. It has lasted me over 6 years. No problems at all. Would highly recommend. Keeps me dry and there is plenty of space. However, six people would definitely be super tight in there. Would not recommend going over four people

Got the Coleman sky dome used, it was awesome! Very roomy. No rain fly for the porch though.

I have the green and gray Coleman Skydome. Very nice tent with very bad design flaw. When you put the rain cover on top it blocks all of the openings leaving very little air flow. When it is hot at night it’s pretty miserable in there. The only thing you can unzip is the front door to the porch and if it rains that night congrats you are hot AND wet. I’d go another direction.

As a single adult scout leader I run a 4 person instant Coleman tent. I sleep on my own 95% of the time. In a pinch I could provide room for another leader. I have a 6-person but it’s way too big for me by myself. Before the Coleman I had a 4 person malamoo mega that I really liked.

I own a 6-person tent for me and one kid. That fits two air mattresses and gives us space to stand, change clothes, keep our bags, etc. I have a Coleman and it works just fine.

Dude, my first two tents were coleman. Shit man, I still got them and they still work great. Oldest one close to 15 years. I went from a 4P Coleman to 6P Coleman when I had kids. So if you can get one in good condition or buy it.. go for it. I got my coleman sundome for like a 100 bucks. If you don't want a coleman, you can sang one of these from costco for a 100 bucks - https://www.costco.com/core-6-person-lighted-dome-tent.product.100892929.html Now a days I have a Marmot 6P, recognize that this is 500$ tent. Don't spend this kind of money for your first tent unless you have money to spare or plan on going a lot of camping. The difference between a 100$ tent vs a $500 tent are: - More indoor pockets - High quality tent poles - No snag YKK zippers - Easy to pack bag - better ventilation But from a core tent/sleeping POV, its the same. IF and WHEN you are ready to go backpacking, it would be good to invest in lighter smaller gear. A decent backpacking tent is pretty expensive.

Everyone here is saying don't buy this tent - however, I owned this tent and loved it. I spent $80 on a six person and it went through multiple rainstorms a year. It started leaking after 6 years. Up until then, it kept us dry as a bone. Coleman is GREAT entry level and will keep you dry. If you camp a LOT though, I'd go a step up and buy a Kelty tent.   I'd get a warmer sleeping bag. For Joshua Tree in December get something rated for at least 30. It gets cold in the desert at night. If you use an air mattress, put a fleece blanket or yoga mat between yourself and your mattress. It will keep you soooo much warmer by keeping you off plastic filled with cold air.

These are backpacking tents made with material that is lighter and more expensive than typical tents. If you're car camping, a $200 Coleman 6p+ tent will be more than fine for a while. MyLifeOutdoors did a video on YT about a month ago talking about it a little.

Used to be an avid backpacker before having my son.  I use a Marmot Limelight 2P for our scouting trips.  It’s been all over and continues to hold strong, great water resistance.  Surprisingly after 15+ years of use it’s still going strong and has survived a few years of Cub Scout camping weekends.  All my Marmot gear has really held up through the years and adventures.   I have a Coleman 6P with a porch area and it’s nice for car camping but not something I would want to take to Scout weekends.  It’s huge and heavy, and would take up more space than me and my son need, blocking others who have bigger families.

Wow, lots of comments for you to sort through, OP! We have a 2p trekking tent and a 6p Coleman that we got on mega sale the morning we woke up to a collapsed, flooded, tarped (under and over) and waterproofed 4p Walmart tent. When my oldest was younger, we went camping with extended family. The cousins wanted their own tent so we packed them up (4 boys and 2 girls 6 to 10yo) in the 6p Coleman, and we squeezed the toddler between us in the trekking tent. Well, we ended up moving to the Coleman with all of them in the middle of the night because they got scared of the wind, the voices, and the coyotes. I'd venture out to say that 6-10yos should probably not camp in their own tent. He's 12 now, and gets the (very expensive) trekking tent to himself. He does just fine, too. We happen to have it so we use it, but if we didn't, we'd buy something that won't collapse or flood, probably between 50-100$ new, absolutely on sale. We've had both tents for over 10 years, use them every summer multiple times, and treat them every summer as well, well worth the investment. Our kid doesn't mind the hand me down, loves to have his own space, and is grateful.

For car camping I like Coleman 6p tents. They’re heavy but durable. I use mine for 2 adults on a queen sized deep air mattress. Have two dogs, a Shepard and a beagle each with their own beds. Plenty of room for us

I’d go with the Coleman 6p because you can extend the awning. But whatever you buy, make sure you get some waterproofing or a very large heavy duty waterproof tarp.

Wouldn’t go to big. Honestly 6p is a great mid range the Coleman is wicked. I just upgraded to a 10p Blackwolf 450 and honestly I prefer the 6p and I have a family of 4. We put two double mattresses in the 6p with a bit of room left for clothes. The Coleman also has a small vestibule we had a mat and shelves for medicine books sunblock etc. Takes me about 45mins to setup the 10p with a bit of mucking around the 6p about 20minutes.

I have a Coleman 6 person tent for family trips. Absolutely fantastic, especially given the price! It has a main room, small “entry”, and then another covered smaller area outside. Makes for taking shoes off real easy and contains the mess to one area.

That tent is a coleman montana 8 person. I have had 2 of them,.they are very sturdy when all the guy lines are used. It does well in the rain... the fly covers the 2 side windows very well. my only complaint would be the windows are high so there is not much air flow low down. I always bring a small fan so not an issue. The coleman 6 person is what I used last. It was fine after I my dog passed and it was just me. I like to have enough room to stand, and bring a chair and small table inside incase it rains. This one is 10x10' and 6' tall. https://preview.redd.it/vna1vl7a5krf1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c7cb984cda2696f6a6e11b307ce64be9bd89425

After finishing up a trip this past weekend up in Maine I found out that my new 6 person Coleman tent is not water resistant to rain. I’m now looking for a tent that has a separate screened in room to utilize it as a mud room as well as a lounge room when the bugs are unbearable. Looking for quality suggestions preferably under $500. I found these tents below to be a desirable design but am not familiar with the quality or reputation of these tents. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-8-person-hybrid-tunnel-tent-with-screen-porch https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/wenzel-klondike-8-person-tent https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-8-person-hub-tent

Sometimes you can find 2 good flat spots at a campsite easier than one very large one. For certain ages you would want the kids with you. We have a 6 person Coleman that is comfortable for 4. If you use cots, you can store bags under the cots so that helps with space. Bigger tents tend to be taller too which allows you to stand.

Mine had her uncle's ancient 1 person tent when she was like 6. She's a giant so when she got too tall for it a couple years later, we got her a 6 person Coleman tent (free from a work rewards thing, she'd have a smaller cheaper one otherwise) so she can stand up to change in it, and so her bestie who comes with us a lot doesn't have to sleep in a tent with adults

If you’re looking for an affordable tent, get one of the coleman dome tents.  Keep in mind that a 6 person tent will be very tight for 6 full grown people. If the boys are 15+ get at least a 8 person tent.
