I love my Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof. I have been using my tent now since the release. Love the size of the 6 person tent which gives us plenty of space for my girlfriend and I sleeping on cots with a small table and chairs inside and a center height of 6 feet which is awesome because i don’t want to be leaning over trying to put my clothes on. Plus there is a screen porch added to the tent for more storage space. This is where my Labrador sleeps. The rain fly if full and covers the entire tent. I have been a 6 day camping trip with 3 days of heavy rain and winds and the tent never failed. Right now the tent is on sale through Amazon. Hands down the Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof. I purchased mine when it was first released and I chose the 6 person tent because I wanted lots of room. I’m 6’4” tall so having a tent to stand up in is a huge bonus for me. My Girlfriend and I sleep on Cots so what we do is put a couple chairs and a small table inside the tent which allows us to sit and play games or read at night or during bad weather. This tent has a full rain fly that goes all the way to the ground on all sides. Plus you get a screen porch attached to the tent which is great place to store your gear. Dimensions 10’5” L x 12’5” W x 6’ H. Right now it’s on sale at Amazon. Definitely keep you under $500 cap. I’ve used my tent 18 times in the past year and a half. Many times in bad weather conditions. We stayed dry and comfortable at one location for 5 days 3 of those days were heavy rain and winds. I recommend you get some screw in tent stakes for bad weather they really help hold the tent down all allow for full ventilation as well. Happy camping 🌲🌳⛺️🔥🌳🌲 [Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof](https://a.co/d/hbzL2gQ)
I haven’t found the instant tents to hold up well in bad weather conditions. This is my current tent for the past 2 years. I’ve used it 26 times already and absolutely loved it. The rain fly is all the way down for full waterproof coverage. [Coleman 6 person Skydome](https://a.co/d/7irT4lW)
Big Agnes would be my first choice if I had to choose between the two that you are suggesting. Another choice is what I’ve been using for about 2 years and that is the Coleman 6 person Skydome. I’ve been very impressed with the design and space provided. Unlike many tent this is a tent that offers a full waterproof rain fly and a screen room that is attached to the tent which allows a option for gear storage or extra sleeping space. Plus being around $255 is even better for your budget. [Coleman Skydome 6 person](https://a.co/d/3N7mzxx)
Yes, and it has a full rain fly for the screen room as well. Click on the link there is a video as well. I’ve been in some heavy rain storms and stayed bone dry.
I have been extremely impressed and happy with my Coleman Skydome 6person tent. It’s not the best for backpacking but great for car camping. I use mine in the PNW and Olympic Peninsula. https://preview.redd.it/79gwcgjd3h0g1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8dc6b72e953dc22e25ee21a39d1fd59e0cfec6d1 It sells for around $250 unless you buy the Skydome Dark Room where the are charging more $350+ Coleman offers a nice waterproof tent with the Skydome the rain fly comes all the way down to the ground. Coleman also has a tarp like material that covers the floor and 6” up the side walls so even if water was underneath the tent you would not get wet. Skydome offers enough room for my girlfriend and I to relax comfortably without having to put our clothes on while sitting. We use 2 cots with memory foam and in between each others cot is a small table and two chairs. This is nice when the weather is bad. Skydome offers a screen porch that works great for gear or pets to sleep at the same time full rain fly on the entire tent. This will be my 3rd year using this tent. I average about 20 weekends of camping from Late April to October. The tent has performed wonderfully.
I’ve been camping with Coleman tents for the past 40+ years and never had any major problems with the tents. I’ve also sold camping gear for the past 40+ years. Most people have problems with tents because how they set the tents up or with rain fly not being deployed correctly. Always set the tent up then stake it down. If you stake the tent down first then try building it, it can be down right difficult. Specially when dealing with a dome tent. After setting up the tent and staking it down. Now deploy your rain fly. Don’t just lay it on the tent clip in in and use the straps and stake them out completely. Once properly installed this will help with airflow. Most Coleman tents come with a 3/4 rain fly. Which serves its purpose for Spring, Summer and Fall weather conditions in most weather conditions for the northern hemisphere. I use a 6 person Coleman Skydome tent. Mainly for the extra room and it has a 6’ center height. Myself my girlfriend and my 2 labs sleep in a dome style tent that offers a full rain fly and a screen room attached which is where the dogs sleep. This has been by far my favorite tents Coleman has produced. There’s some facts that you must understand when buying a tent. First how many people will be using this tent. Let’s just say 2 and you go looking for a 2 person tent. When any tent manufacturer they don’t take in consideration that you’ll have gear in the tent with you and if you plan on using a big airbed or cot. Their considerations are just how many people they can fit in the tent. So flip the package over and what you see is 2 people in mummy sleeping bags and small camp pads. You won’t see any room for backpacks or duffel bags. Just sleeping bags! Notice the sleeping bags are not touching the tent walls and the bags are elsewhere. This is what most manufacturers consider this to be 2 person tent. So unless you’re going backpacking with the tent always add 2 more people to the tent you are looking for. This is to allow you to have room for bigger sleeping pads, air mattress or cots plus bags. Something you should know every tent will make your gear wet if it’s leaning against the tent wall. It comes from condensation and happens all the time early morning. So don’t come into the store mad as a wet hen that your bags are soaked and the tent failed. No you left your bag leaning on the tent wall and it got wet from condensation. 99% of the people who tried to return their tent due to they got wet. It was due to poor installation and placing gear against the tent wall.
No it’s not crazy! Specially if you’re car camping. If you’re backpacking yes you would be a bit crazy. Only due to the weight you’ll have to carry. Car camping you really don’t have a weight limit unless you only drive a micro car. For car camping I use a 6 person tent just so I have room to sleep on my cot and have extra room to sit in my camp chair inside. I’m not a little kid anymore I don’t want to put my clothes on while sitting on my buttocks. I want to stand up stretch and have room to relax. Even if my Girlfriend comes along I still have extra space for all her gear and her cot. My new favorite tent is Coleman Skydome 6 person tent. Inside the tent itself is enough room for 2 queen air mattress’s and a good 16” all around. Then there is a sun screen room attached to the front that has full rain protection. This is where my gear sits and where my Chocolate Lab likes to sleep. I’ve had my Skydome for 2 years now and approaching my 3 Season. I love this tent for so many reasons but my main reason is the full rain fly that covers the entire tent. I live in Washington State and most of my camping is in the state. There’s no guarantee that I can have sunny weather for my trip. This tent covers me perfectly. https://preview.redd.it/q7a9kd58wivg1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bd5b13aa188824ba3a4d42ad9add15099df0631 Get a larger tent and enjoy the space in comfort. Happy travels. 🌲🌲⛺️🔥🌲🌲
you don't really need a 4 season tent unless you plan on camping in high winds/heavy snow. a 3 season tent should be enough to suffice as the intent of a tent is to protect from wind/precipitation and the poles/fabric can withstand regular rain and wind. i bought the coleman skydome 6-person screenroom tent with darkroom tech for a recent camping trip but haven't yet taken it out during rain/wind. pros: it was dark enough inside the tent to need to use a lantern during the day, vestibule with tub floor was actually super nice and comes with extra pocket storage cons: i struggled to fit the tent back in the bag even with the tear allowance, the attached poles made it difficult to clip tent to poles ( i am very short so this may not be a problem), the only windows are in the front so air circulation to cool the tent down on a hot day would be limited i used this tent in 30-50F degrees in sunny conditions it was pretty enjoyable and i was able to sleep in. it comes with a lot of ventilation on all sides but i could definitely see overheating from the sun before the light wakes you up so not sure if i would recommend this temp for sunny summer days
I just finished my first cub scouts campout in a Coleman Skydome tent, the kind with the "Dark Room Technology" which I \*highly\* recommend if your child is on the younger side (mine is 7) because it really does stay nice and dark in there, great for kids being able to sleep even with late sunsets and early sunrises. We were not the only Coleman "Dark Room" tents in our pack. We have a 4-person and we fit two cots in there with some room in the middle, but if you go with [the 6-person version](https://www.coleman.com/camp-sports/tents-by-size/skydome-6-person-screen-room-camping-tent-with-dark-room-technology/SAP_2206907.html) you'd absolutely have plenty of room - it'll be downright spacious if you get the screen room. Setup is a breeze. I've only ever set this thing up by myself or with the help of my 7-year-old, which probably makes it take a few minutes longer but it's good for him to help. ;) I do have the one with the screen room, which is great for extra storage and keeping the sleeping area clean (our system is shoes don't go past the screen room), and the Skydome model has zip-up panels so the screen room stays dry even if it rains (which it did this past trip). The Coleman Carlsbad Dark Room has a fully mesh screen room which I'd imagine would basically trap water along the floor when it rained. Honestly the WeatherMaster pictured in your post looks like it would also let rain inside the screen room area, I'd make sure it has panels to zip up behind the mesh. I \*love\* having that extra screened in area though so I do recommend that.
Ozark Trail is gonna be your friend for getting started on a budget but still using reliable gear. Coleman has really good sales too, and dependable stuff. Tents will do you just fine to get going. It won't have the fanciest features or be the lightest but it'll be plenty sturdy. If you'll often have 4 people in the tent, get a 6-person tent. If you can budget a little more or stalk for some sales, a Coleman 6-person Sundome or Skydome is going to be a super reliable and easy tent. If your kid ever gets into scouting, those are really common tents to see on their camping trips (we have a Skydome ourselves!)> I have the Coleman Flatlands sleeping bags, and I got them on sale last summer for $35/each. They're really big and puffy, suitable for car camping. Good starter bag. Get a sleeping pad and/or (for summer trips if you don't really need insulation) a cot. I got Ozark Trail ones at walmart, again stalked sales, and they work just fine. I actually really like the cots. (I got the [zipper cots](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-Zipper-Cot-Adult-75-5-x26-x-5-5/1494929280).) For cookware and stuff - honestly for starting out on a budget I'd probably look for local state or NPS sites where the site has a grill but to be sure you're in line with any fire restrictions you can get a little pocket stove on Amazon or (sturdier/bigger) a one-burner propane stove. For cookware - on the one-burner stove just bring stuff from your house at first if you're car camping. Definitely recommend starting out in your backyard. That was like magic to my son and so much fun for him and let me figure out what I was missing that I really wanted before our first time actually being in the woods. Have fun!
If you love the Naturehike Dune Hot Tent for the tall porch but want a smaller footprint, you can consider the Coleman WeatherMaster or Coleman Skydome with Screen Porch. Both have covered, waterproof porch areas where you can stand and take off your wet gear, and they fit 2-3 people comfortably with room for an air mattress. These are budget-friendly car camping options with easy setup and good weather protection. Check out [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/KeepThisInMind/comments/1mdmrgb/reddit_2_person_best_camping_tents_recommendations/) for more detailed reviews and tips. I hope it 'll help you find the perfect tent for your needs!
I have the first one the Coleman porch sky dome tent. Was given as a wedding gift and I’ve used it twice. Easy to pop up takes maybe 5 min with 2 people. Hoping to try it in the rain one day. Definitely recommend
Lost my Coleman darkroom 6 person tent a few years ago to a heavy snow storm, replaced with their regular 6 person dome from Costco on sale and I miss the darkroom tent so much. Best car camping tent I’ve ever used.
