3. I do scouts camping Coleman 4p sundome that I usually use. I think it meets your requirements but I don't think is 68" tall Old REI 4 person whose name eludes me that I usually give my 13 year old Coleman 8 person with fully enclosed vestibule that I rarely use but am taking to summer camp this year. It's hard to set up with one person (I'm a bit short to reach easily to do the rain fly) but if I were taller it'd probably be doable
I have one of these, plenty of room for me 6'2", and my 11 yo son 5'4" and our gear. It's a nice tent for times when you don't need the rain fly but there's lots of bugs so free-ballin it in a hammock would be miserable. It's a little stuffy with the rain fly on, but you get the vestibule for shoes/boots etc with the fly on. You can get a solar powered tent fan for pretty cheap to alleviate the stuffyness.
I have a skydome with vestibule and use it during rainy season to camp. We had a 3 day camping trip where it rained nonstop the entire time pretty hard and I didnt have any issues.
I’ve been camping with Coleman tents for the past 40+ years and never had any major problems with the tents. I’ve also sold camping gear for the past 40+ years. Most people have problems with tents because how they set the tents up or with rain fly not being deployed correctly. Always set the tent up then stake it down. If you stake the tent down first then try building it, it can be down right difficult. Specially when dealing with a dome tent. After setting up the tent and staking it down. Now deploy your rain fly. Don’t just lay it on the tent clip in in and use the straps and stake them out completely. Once properly installed this will help with airflow. Most Coleman tents come with a 3/4 rain fly. Which serves its purpose for Spring, Summer and Fall weather conditions in most weather conditions for the northern hemisphere. I use a 6 person Coleman Skydome tent. Mainly for the extra room and it has a 6’ center height. Myself my girlfriend and my 2 labs sleep in a dome style tent that offers a full rain fly and a screen room attached which is where the dogs sleep. This has been by far my favorite tents Coleman has produced. There’s some facts that you must understand when buying a tent. First how many people will be using this tent. Let’s just say 2 and you go looking for a 2 person tent. When any tent manufacturer they don’t take in consideration that you’ll have gear in the tent with you and if you plan on using a big airbed or cot. Their considerations are just how many people they can fit in the tent. So flip the package over and what you see is 2 people in mummy sleeping bags and small camp pads. You won’t see any room for backpacks or duffel bags. Just sleeping bags! Notice the sleeping bags are not touching the tent walls and the bags are elsewhere. This is what most manufacturers consider this to be 2 person tent. So unless you’re going backpacking with the tent always add 2 more people to the tent you are looking for. This is to allow you to have room for bigger sleeping pads, air mattress or cots plus bags. Something you should know every tent will make your gear wet if it’s leaning against the tent wall. It comes from condensation and happens all the time early morning. So don’t come into the store mad as a wet hen that your bags are soaked and the tent failed. No you left your bag leaning on the tent wall and it got wet from condensation. 99% of the people who tried to return their tent due to they got wet. It was due to poor installation and placing gear against the tent wall.
No it’s not crazy! Specially if you’re car camping. If you’re backpacking yes you would be a bit crazy. Only due to the weight you’ll have to carry. Car camping you really don’t have a weight limit unless you only drive a micro car. For car camping I use a 6 person tent just so I have room to sleep on my cot and have extra room to sit in my camp chair inside. I’m not a little kid anymore I don’t want to put my clothes on while sitting on my buttocks. I want to stand up stretch and have room to relax. Even if my Girlfriend comes along I still have extra space for all her gear and her cot. My new favorite tent is Coleman Skydome 6 person tent. Inside the tent itself is enough room for 2 queen air mattress’s and a good 16” all around. Then there is a sun screen room attached to the front that has full rain protection. This is where my gear sits and where my Chocolate Lab likes to sleep. I’ve had my Skydome for 2 years now and approaching my 3 Season. I love this tent for so many reasons but my main reason is the full rain fly that covers the entire tent. I live in Washington State and most of my camping is in the state. There’s no guarantee that I can have sunny weather for my trip. This tent covers me perfectly. https://preview.redd.it/q7a9kd58wivg1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bd5b13aa188824ba3a4d42ad9add15099df0631 Get a larger tent and enjoy the space in comfort. Happy travels. 🌲🌲⛺️🔥🌲🌲
Nothing wrong with Coleman tent’s weather you are a beginner or advanced camper. For most car camping this tent will work out just fine. Now if you plan on camping the full 3 seasons you might want to look at a tent that has a better rain fly. Here’s the Coleman https://preview.redd.it/bi3t2z7k7raf1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b96392dbf8f1f79109c00f942f3984d1629a202 Skydome tent I have been using since it’s release. They offer 4/6/8 people option. I use the 6 person one so that I have plenty of room inside. My girlfriend and I sleep on Cots with a small table and two chairs inside the tent. This allows us plenty of space when bad weather hits. It has a full rain fly and a screen room attached which gives you the ability to keep your gear stored safe and not get rained on. Right now it’s on sale at Amazon. Hope this helps you out. Happy Camping 🌳🌳⛺️🔥🌳🌳
I use a 6 person Coleman Skydome. Good amount of space for me, a femme, and all the gear I need to bring in at night away from curious animals or driving rain. A double sleeping pad takes up just about half the space. Have just enough room to stand and change. Dont be fooled by the "6-person" marketing gimmick. That tent could sleep about 3 people and their stuff reasonably. Packs away neatly in the back of my truck where it lives in between camps. Just know though that once you go big, you'll never go back to a single or two person tent ever again.
I second the Coleman Skydome. My only regret is that I DIDN'T get the full-fly vestibule model.
