I'd choose the rectangle one over the dome. Domes in my experience are harder to keep dry. Also limited headroom. I have an instant up 10 man I got from Sams Club and would highly recommend that one. The rectangle one said set up was 20 minutes. Domes are usually longer. My big instant up takes 2 minutes from being spread out to it is standing fully. Same taking it down. Super quick. Plus has stood up great in storms. So might look at some instant up styles.
had similar dilemma last year when looking at these exact models. went with the costco one and been pretty happy with it during few rainy trips. the full fly coverage really does make difference when weather gets nasty - stayed completely dry even during some heavy downpours in the mountains the canadian tire one looks nice with that room divider but from what i've read online the partial fly can be bit of gamble if you get caught in sideways rain. plus setting up the divider wall adds extra time which isn't fun when you're trying to get shelter up quick. for car camping where you got space anyway the extra room might not be worth the trade off in weather protection one thing to consider is how many people you actually camping with - both tents are pretty optimistic with their person counts so if you planning for 6+ people regularly then maybe worth the extra cash for bigger footprint
I would get the dome hands down, the vestibule plus full rain fly are more important than the divider for me I have an REI tent that has all three features, but we leave the divider open pretty much all the time
I have the non lighted version I got on sale from Walmart for $70 four years ago and never had an issue. But I set the tent up under a 10x10 pop up canopy so really the tent has never seen rain.
I'd get a Coleman Skydome for $100. I go camping all the time and that's what I use
All I know is I've had the same Coleman for 4 years and has never leaked nor collapsed. If something happened to it I wouldn't feel bad and get another. If something happened to a $200-$300 tent I would feel bad.
We are a family of 5 plus our two Labradors we love our 8 person Coleman Skydome tent. We have lots of sleeping space, plenty of headroom. And the dogs can sleep with us or sleep outside in the screened porch as it’s part of the tent. Plus you can not beet the rain fly design goes all they way to the ground for better weather protection. We have camped in 105 degree weather and 38 degree weather the tent keep’s amazing us every time we use it. https://preview.redd.it/jzo1cuaj1v7g1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb0a2d7760b7a76b0d0684185d5cd38f3ce4eec4 I highly recommend this tent for 5 people and two dogs plus everyone’s gear. Final not for warmer weather they offer a dark room version. Happy Camping🌲🌲🔥⛺️🌲🌲
Nothing wrong with Coleman tent’s weather you are a beginner or advanced camper. For most car camping this tent will work out just fine. Now if you plan on camping the full 3 seasons you might want to look at a tent that has a better rain fly. Here’s the Coleman https://preview.redd.it/bi3t2z7k7raf1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b96392dbf8f1f79109c00f942f3984d1629a202 Skydome tent I have been using since it’s release. They offer 4/6/8 people option. I use the 6 person one so that I have plenty of room inside. My girlfriend and I sleep on Cots with a small table and two chairs inside the tent. This allows us plenty of space when bad weather hits. It has a full rain fly and a screen room attached which gives you the ability to keep your gear stored safe and not get rained on. Right now it’s on sale at Amazon. Hope this helps you out. Happy Camping 🌳🌳⛺️🔥🌳🌳
I stayed in a 8 person Skydome last week in absolutely torrential rain. We stayed dry, other than were the tent fabric "cupped" as a result of not being pulled taut.
I just bought the 8 person version this year. Have set it up and taken it down 3 times so far, no issues getting it back in the bag. There's also a strip on the bottom of the bag that can be cut to make the bag larger that I still haven't cut, but in theory will solve the issues you're describing.
I have the 8 and 12 person version of this tent, no issues, and pretty sure I paid more than that for the 8 person. Just be aware that not all tent pads are longer than 8 to 12ft so this may not fit all campsites, which is why I have both.
I have the 8p version of this tent. It's a solid choice for a family (or just a couple that likes to have a little extra space in the tent). You made a great choice for that price
