4 person Coleman sundome was my first tent and it is perfect for a beginner I would say. Waterproof through bad storms, and it has a bucket or tub floor. The floor actually comes up the sides about a foot, so there’s no seam on the ground level to leak. Easy to set up alone, and great for one or two to share. Price point is right on budget too, I think the 4 person is under $100.
r/camping • Whats the cheapest 2 man tent you would recommend for someone who is looking to get into camping for the first time? ->Idk, my sun dome kept me dry during some pretty big downpours.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->The sundome is a solid tent
r/camping • Broken tent! Cheap recos for temp replacement? ->Yup - this is the tent that I recommend for beginners on a budget going car/base/festival camping. It won't last forever or stand up to big storms - but it does the job good enough.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I understand that. I did specifically say 'beginners on a budget' - because OP asked for cheap options. I personally adhere to the 'buy once, cry once' adage. However - the alternative of buying cheap and upgrading later is also valid. I realize not everyone has infinite budget for camping gear - so price does matter. To me - it's not just a $200 jump in budget. The $250 tents are okay, but not the best. To get something quality - I would spend \~$400 on a car camping tent. The difference between a $75 Coleman and a $175 alternative is not massive. If OP is worried about budget - spending that $100 on other things for comfort would go farther. Your advice isn't bad. Worthwhile to add to any thread like this. Different opinions on what tent to go with when getting started is valuable to people like OP. Post up a specific tent if you can.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Is there a reason you need a pop-up tent? Also - what exactly do you mean when you say 'pop up'? Do you want a tent that instantly sets itself up? Is there a reason you/they are not capable of setting up a non-pop-up tent? What country are you shopping in? What is your budget? "not super expensive" is hard to put a number on. How many people are you trying to fit? If you want a generic answer - I recommend the Coleman Sundome. The 4-person model is only $70 USD on Amazon right now. A good deal for a basic car-camping tent. It's easy to setup and relatively reliable in a variety of weather conditions. 2 adults can comfortably fit into it, 3 if they don't have a bunch of gear. r/camping • Best pop up tent? ->I have two Coleman Sundome 4 person tents that I have used for 5 plus years. I love them. I have used them in the rain and they haven’t leaked yet.
r/camping • Whats the cheapest 2 man tent you would recommend for someone who is looking to get into camping for the first time? ->I have two sundomes. 2 person and 4 person. When I camp solo I use the smaller one. I tarp under and use a very large tarp over with stakes all around. It pretty much will never get wet and has held up to 30-40mph storm winds and higher gusts. I love my little sundomes and as my camp crew and I call it “tarp city”. The only complaint I have is the zipper. It can get snagged easily but I haven’t broken it yet. I’ve had mine for 5yrs and it’s seen a lot of dispersed Colorado mountain camping, the Indy 500 race, Minnesota lakes, etc etc. That said, I’d buy another if I ever need to replace the two I have.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->That and it would take up significantly more room in my car. Truth be told I spent more nights in my car now days then I do a tent. Thinking I'll just grab a cheap 4-person. Colement 4p sundome is on Amazon for $66 which seems like a great deal for the occasional near car camping
r/CampingGear • anyone know anything about "The Get Out"?? they have a gorgeous double A frame tent that's making me feel a type of way ->I've been loving my Coleman Sundome 4-Person Tent.
r/CampingGear • 4p tent under 200$ ->I recommend the Sundome as well. The darkroom feature is really nice.
r/camping • Best pop-up tent? ->Coleman Sundome or Skydome. I leave one in my backyard for years at a time - one eventually failed after 2 years
r/camping • Long Term Car Camping Tent ->A Sundome or Skydome is still easier to set up and a lot more waterproof. The fact that they added an extra sold separately rainfly to the Instant shows it’s bad.
r/camping • Any reason not to get a bigger tent. ->If you have an Ollie’s, they will probably have new Coleman tents for less than Facebook. I just got a 4 man Sundome for 39.99
r/CampingGear • Choosing a first time tent? ->Maybe a Sundome? Mine only get condensation on the walls, which is no problem if you don’t touch the walls
r/CampingGear • Any quality tent recommendations? ->Blackout and waterproof. I rock a Coleman 8 man Skydome or a 4 man Sundome
r/CampingGear • What do you personally look for in a car camping tent? ->Was your Coleman a Sundome or Skydome? Those types hold up great in thunderstorms.
r/CampingGear • Looking for an affordable but heavy duty tent for extreme weather (rain/wind/heat) ->I’ve used a Sundome and a Skydome through multiple severe thunderstorms, not even guyed out. I have had ONE that would leak in a corner. I tend to leave a tent in my backyard year round to have a bug safe area.
r/CampingGear • Looking for an affordable but heavy duty tent for extreme weather (rain/wind/heat) ->Coleman Sundome and Skydome are both super easy
r/CampingGear • easy to setup/pack up tent. ->I like a Coleman Sundome or Skydome better than the Madrone - water came up through the bottom of my Madrone and I gave it away
r/camping • 4p tent under 200$ ->Yep, Sundome and Skydome are great
r/camping • 4p tent under 200$ ->Coleman Sundome or Skydome. Check out an Ollie’s if you have one. The other Coleman tents will probably be just fine too. But I would avoid the instant up - sets up fast but leaks so badly they made an additional rainfly for it.
r/CampingGear • Anybody have any recommendations for a portable 2 person tent? ->Try a Coleman Sundome or Skydome from Ollie’s, blackout if you can get it. I’ve bought both to festivals with multiple severe thunderstorms and was much dryer than people who brought much more expensive tents. The bathtub floor will be much better in bad weather than this tent. Sometimes you can get a dud Coleman that leaks in one spot, but that’s only happened to me once. Just set it up and test it in rain before your event. I will say avoid the instant tent, that thing is so bad they sell an aftermarket rainfly to fix it.
r/camping • has anyone used this tent by blackdog? not very many reviews and i’m wanting to make sure its going to hold up for several days at a time for festivals and is weatherPROOF! ->If you check out the Sundome on Amazon, I think it’s the most reviewed tent they sell
r/camping • has anyone used this tent by blackdog? not very many reviews and i’m wanting to make sure its going to hold up for several days at a time for festivals and is weatherPROOF! ->Coleman Sundome 4person. I use a 6 person blackout and it is enough for 2 adults on cots.
r/camping • Whats the cheapest 2 man tent you would recommend for someone who is looking to get into camping for the first time? ->Love my Coleman 4 person sundome. I use it for solo camping and sleep on a cot in colder weather. Never had any water leak in.
r/CampingGear • Best 4 person 3 season tent? ->I use a Coleman Sundome 4p tent (it comes in other sizes too) and think the Sundomes are good value for the money. Others recommend Ozark Rail from Walmart but I’ve never used them. Both of these will be less than $100 for a 2P. I’ve never had water leaks from rain in my Sundome but you need to know how to pitch the tent (higher ground, use a ground cloth (tarp) that doesn’t extend beyond the floor of the tent) and be prepared to reseal the seams on cheaper tents. Be aware a 2P tent is designed to fit 2 people side by side with no extra room. If you are planning to camp in the backyard, consider going bigger. I camp solo in a 4P, used to in a 3P but being able to stand up (I still have to tilt my head but I’m not hinged at the hips) was necessary due to back issues).
r/camping • Whats the cheapest 2 man tent you would recommend for someone who is looking to get into camping for the first time? ->I’ve had a few Sundomes over the years. None ever died or leaked, I just bought different sizes and gave away what didn’t work for me. I now use a 4 person Sundome for just me (I’m fine with the floor space of the 3 but can stand up with my heals tilted in the 4 versus my back hunched in the 3). I don’t think you can find a tent for a better value for a beginner budget tent, especially if you buy one on sale. If you are going to fit 3-4 people get a 6 person.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I would go with a 4 person tent especially if using a taller mattress. Tent walls are sloped so you lose some floor space keeping the mattress or sleeping pad away from the wall a bit. Also think about whether you want to stand up in the tent or not. If you do, depending on yourn I have a Coleman Sundome 4 person for me as a solo camper (even if I go with friends we all have our own tent). I got the 4 to be able to stand up in it. I’m 5’2” and still have to tilt my head a little but I’m not hunched over and it’s easier to put up than a bigger tent. REI does carry them sometimes but you can find them cheaper at discount stores. My first one was a 3 person and it got several years of use between me and a friend I gave it to (they upgraded to a bigger tent and gave it always while it was still usable). My current version is 2 years old and has about 20 days of use. They both held up in rain well but haven’t been exposed to windy conditions. I do seam seal my tents every couple seasons though. If $500 is your budget just for a tent you’ll have lots of options and if you want to buy from REI I would talk to someone with a green vest for recommendations for your area. If $500 is for other things, I would split it up between a tent and good sleeping pad versus air mattresses I just upgraded to an Exped Megamat 10 and love it. Expensive but REI had it on sale. Since waiting for next year’s model was mentioned, I assume there is no rush to buy. Personally I don’t think car camping tents change that much year to year so I’d keep an eye on sales or use the 20% off coupon REI offers throughout the year once you decide what to get.
r/CampingGear • $500 budget, 3+ person tent, for car camping, sold by REI ->I’m 5’2” and can stand it Coleman Sumdome 4 person with my head titled a bit not in direct center. The 6 person I could have stood straight up in but I wanted the smaller footprint since some campsites close to home at a challenge finding a sites with a flat enough spot for the 6 person.
r/camping • Tent you can stand in comfortably ->I have used Sundomes for several years. My first was a 3 person which I bought when someone borrowed my Eureka tent and I decided on a last minute trip when I didn’t have my tent. It was fine, just too small so I have it to a friend and got used it for several years before getting a bigger tent (my friend gave it away so who knows how long it got used for). My bigger tent was too big to put up on my own so when I wanted to do some solo camping last year I bought another Sundome, this time a 4 person from Ollie’s. The Sundome may not be the most robust tent, but I think you can’t beat the bang for the buck if you get it on sale. And if you have an Ollie’s near by you can’t beat the price.
r/CampingGear • I’ve spent HOURS agonizing over our next tent - send help ->Coleman Sundomes have been pretty reliable for me. It’s not a full rainy but isn’t just a hat. Not sure where you will be camping but the bigger the tent, the harder it will be to find level spots or campsites big enough (YMMV depending where you go).
r/camping • I’m looking for an 6-10 person tent for family camping, but all the tents I have found only have a small “hat”-type rain fly. Any recommendations for a tent of that size with a full coverage rain fly? ->What kind of camping will you be doing? For backpacks you need to look at packed size and weight so going with the cheapest may not be best. For car camping at campgrounds, weight and size doesn’t typically matter. I car camp and currently use a Coleman Sundome 4 person for just myself. I don’t backpack so there is no need to save weight and I want to be able to stand up and fit some gear into my tent. Tent sizes are based on the number of people without any extra room so make sure you really want a 1 person tent.
r/camping • What brand of tent do you guys have? ->How many people will be sleeping in the tent. Make sure you go big enough. A 4 person will fit 4 people right next to each other with no room for anything else. I use a 4 person just for myself, but I also want to be able to stand up inside. (I’m short so do slightly tilt my head but my back thanks me for upgrading from a 3 person where I had to stand over hinged at my hips). I use a Coleman Sundome 4. I also looked at the Flatwood II (also at Ollie’s) and felt the Sundome was better (rainfly longer and an extra zip up window maybe??). Buying used, for any tents make sure the poles are still good (this is a weak point on low priced tents). They shouldn’t be split and the inside elastic should be intact. The ends shouldn’t have a bunch of dirt stuck inside. I make sure mine is cleaned out when repacking. You can clean it out but to me it shows if the tent was well cared for. The Sundomes are good bang for your buck tents and always go on sale so you may want to consider new in case you don’t see any holes in the fabric, issues with poles, no bag or needing to buy stakes. The fact that the Sundome is bundled with a queen mattress could be a bonus but it’s going to take up most of the floor and if it’s just an air mattress it’s going to be cold sleeping on it as they don’t insulate from the ground (a self inflating foam core pad is better). I don’t know anything about the Hooligan or Columbia tent so can’t speak about them but a dome tent will be easier to set up and take down.
r/CampingGear • Choosing a first time tent? ->Coleman Sundome provides good bang for your bucks. They go on sale often too. Definitely get a bigger tent than for the people listed. That number is for the people right next to each other and no space for anything else. Do you like what you borrow from family? If so use that tent style, size and brand as your starting point.
r/CampingGear • Best tents for newbies? ->If it’s leaking at the seams, it needs to be seam sealed. Tents are coming with that done already but it needs to be reapplied. Sometime there isn’t enough put on, other times it deteriorates based on how it is stored (before and after sale) and sometimes it eventually just wears out. Edited to add: Ollie’s has had a lot of Coleman tents at great prices. I bought a Sundome there to have something smaller for solo camping.
r/CampingGear • Help finding new tent ->Sundome is not the best tent on the market but I think it is a best value. Skydome is slightly different configuration but similar. Can t beat the price at Ollie’s, but if you don’t have one nearby the Sundome goes on sale a lot of different places. I have a 4 person Sundome and it’s easy to put up a take down. I’ve used it about 25 days over the last 2 camping seasons and this year plan on applying seam sealer (so far no leaks but I consider this regular maintenance).
r/CampingGear • Best 4p Tent for regular camping? ->I find dome tents easy to set up. For car camping where weight isn’t an issue: For 2 people look at a 4-6 person tent (the numbers tent manufactures use are for people right next to each other with no gear inside). I’ve been using a Coleman Sundome 4 person tent for just myself (I probably could fit another person inside but I camp with friends and we all have our own tents). Previously I used the Sundome 3 person but my back decided standing hunched over was no longer an option, with the 4 I can stand up and just tilt my head. These tents tend to go on sale and offer good value for the money.
r/camping • Easy set up tents ->I use a Coleman Sundomes tent (4 person for just me). The Sundome offers a lot of value for the money but I don’t expect it to last as long as higher priced tents so I would go with a better tent if it’s in your budget. You can’t go wrong with a Coleman stove. Have you considered the Dual Fuel version? Those are bullet proof (with proper maintenance). I haven’t used the propane version but I’m sure they are easier than fussing with fuel (my friends have their family heirloom Dual Fuel stoves that they bring, I bring a pocket rocket to boil water for tea). The nice thing about the 2 burner stoves is you can regulate the heat better for cooking and use pots/skillets from home.
r/CampingGear • Car Camping Upgrades ->Yep. Get either of the 4p tents (1 man tents suck when it rains). Also grab a few extra tent stakes. Then head over a department or two and grab a tarp (significantly larger than the tent footprint) and some lightweight cord (paracord or light clothesline). Use the cord, stakes, and tarp as an additional rainfly/awning and you'll be fine.
r/camping • Broken tent! Cheap recos for temp replacement? ->I’ve had this very tent for a couple years now and it kept me perfectly dry in a storm. Easy to set up by yourself too. I have the 4 person version even though it’s just for me. I just like having the extra room for other stuff and being able to almost stand up straight in it
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I like my Coleman sundome tent. I've put up the 4 man myself several times. For comfort, I'd get 2, so the adult kids can have their own. The bigger the tent, the more difficult to set up.
r/camping • Best pop-up tent? ->This (Coleman Sundome) was my first tent, as well. It was a great tent and the only reason I upgraded was because I wanted something bigger.
r/camping • Whats the cheapest 2 man tent you would recommend for someone who is looking to get into camping for the first time? ->My vote is for the Sundome. It was my first tent when I got into camping. I've upgraded to a bigger tent, but I still have it. Great tent for the money.
r/camping • Broken tent! Cheap recos for temp replacement? ->I’ve had a Coleman sundome 4 for 12 years. Probably have 150 nights in it. Still works like the day I bought it and it was $40. 2 is very comfortable, 3 is snug but doable. Don’t even think about 4. For easy to set up look at kelty. Coleman you have to slide the fiberglass tent poles through the fabric piece. For kelty you just click to snap the clips. A monkey could do it. They’re better quality than Coleman but a bit more spendy. Still fantastic value. Basically I’d recommend the Coleman sundome 6 for the cheapest - but still good quality - tent with plenty of room for 3 + gear. Make sure to get a tarp to keep under the tent, and the tarp should not extend past the edges of the tent. It’s perfectly ok if a few inches of tent extends past the tarp underneath it. You won’t find a cheaper more reliable setup than that. After a time or two you’ll be setting it up in 4 minutes. Edit: don’t forget the cheapest rubber mallet you can find(harbor freight or Walmart) to help pound in tent stakes. Don’t get stuck with analysis paralysis on something you’re not sure you’ll like either!
r/CampingGear • First time camper question ->I have a coleman 4 person tent, and it's great in the rain. You will want a 6 person version to fit 4 people
r/CampingGear • 4p tent under 200$ ->Coleman Sun Dome. Be aware that an N-Person tent fit's N people uncomfortably. You should get a 6 person tent to fit 4 people
r/CampingGear • Best tents for newbies? ->I agree that the Coleman is a great value. I have a 8p one and use it for troop outings. When it’s just my son and I, I opt for my smaller 4p one as it is easier to set up and tear down.
r/camping • What should I look for when purchasing a tent for 2-3 people? What should I avoid ? ->I’ve used a Coleman 4 person for years. I'm just one person but I like an economical tent big enough to stand up in. By the way bring an extra tarp or plastic sheeting with any new tent. You don’t want to find in the first rainstorm that water comes in somewhere. I like the Coleman but with my particular tent the solid wall is too low in back and gets rain splashed up into the tent from the ground in a hard rain.
r/camping • What brand of tent do you guys have? ->I think Coleman and Ozark Trail are what my company uses for our weekly camping trip with tours. The stakes are super cheap and you have to be careful with the zippers, but otherwise they're good relatively durable tents. They're not lightweight and good luck getting them back in the bag but otherwise totally fine. I've had my personal Coleman 4 person tent for over 20 years and it's been through all sorts of weather and I still use it often. I upgraded the stakes to steel ones from Walmart plus a mallet for like $15 and that was definitely worth it. My REI 2- person tent is a scrappy little thing. Have definitely backpacked with it and there's no way you could take the Coleman backpacking. It's also survived all sorts of weather. I would say if you think you might venture out into backpacking, get one of the smaller ones even if they're more expensive. You can always take a backpacking tent car camping, but not vice versa.
r/camping • URGENT, Tent advice please, for someone who doesn’t have a lot of money ->Personally, I now tend to go with more smaller tents than fewer big ones. As the kids get older, they will likely want to be more on their own anyway. We went from an 8 person behemoth 10 years ago, to two Coleman 4 persons about 6 years ago, now down to two (2) two-person tents (Night Cat) and one single-person backpacking tent (Hyke and Byke) as of two years ago. We buy relatively inexpensive no-name tents on Amazon and basically think of them as relatively disposable. Even with that mindset the $100 cheapo Hyke and Byke Yosemite made it through a 12 day trek through Philmont with a 14 year old and is still going super strong three years later. And the three year old Night Cats have recently been keeping me drier in the rain than the Coleman’s ever did. YMMV. Just sayin.
r/CampingGear • Help me find the right tent for our family of 6! ->We went from a Coleman 4 person tent to a Coleman 12 tent. We also have a queen blow up mattress & having the extra room is amazing. Since I'm not carrying it, I don't care how much it weighs
r/camping • Any reason not to get a bigger tent. ->We’ve had a great Coleman 4 person tent for many years. It’s nice to be able to stand up in the larger tent.
r/camping • URGENT, Tent advice please, for someone who doesn’t have a lot of money ->I bought a 2 person backpacking tent and it worked fine for just me, it was tight with my husband since he’s over 6’ tall. He couldn’t even stretch out laying down let alone standing. I put a 4 person Coleman on our wedding registry and it’s been clutch for car camping. Now we have a baby and a dog, I’m going to try to convince him to upgrade to an 8 person for next summer.
r/camping • Is it worth it as a couple to buy a "bigger" tent for car camping? ->Yeah the kingdom 6 with garage extension is really nice if you are planning long camping adventures where you’ll potentially be stuck inside during the day for hours at a time like if it rains. If you’re just going to use it for quick overnights then something like a Coleman 4-person is a lot faster and easier to setup and takedown. I switch between the two depending on my outing.
r/camping • Is it worth it as a couple to buy a "bigger" tent for car camping? ->I have: 1 person backpacking. Rarely use this anymore, but great to loan to friends who want to check out backpacking with low commitment cost. 3 person backpacking (big Agnes tigerwall UL) My main backpacking tent. Light enough so that I can have a little extra room when solo without worrying about the weight. Can also fit me and one of my kids. 4 person Coleman- for car camping with 1-2 of my kids 8 person Coleman- for car camping with our 4person family. These seem to be covering it for me.
r/CampingGear • What are a few styles/sizes of tent that every serious camper should own? ->Sure, I get where you are coming from, not really an advantage but better experience, at least for me. My personal experience is with one of my older tent coleman sundome, where the fly kind of goes just below where the screen material is. In windy conditions, the, due to the gap, the wind finds its way in and make the fly very flap around a lot and hence its very loud. My experience with a full fly tent, I have a marmot limestone, I can pull the fly tight and low to the ground which minimizes the wind going under the fly and therefore the wind noise due to the material flapping around. YMMV
r/CampingGear • Looking for recommendation on all season four person tent for scouts ->Dude, my first two tents were coleman. Shit man, I still got them and they still work great. Oldest one close to 15 years. I went from a 4P Coleman to 6P Coleman when I had kids. So if you can get one in good condition or buy it.. go for it. I got my coleman sundome for like a 100 bucks. If you don't want a coleman, you can sang one of these from costco for a 100 bucks - https://www.costco.com/core-6-person-lighted-dome-tent.product.100892929.html Now a days I have a Marmot 6P, recognize that this is 500$ tent. Don't spend this kind of money for your first tent unless you have money to spare or plan on going a lot of camping. The difference between a 100$ tent vs a $500 tent are: - More indoor pockets - High quality tent poles - No snag YKK zippers - Easy to pack bag - better ventilation But from a core tent/sleeping POV, its the same. IF and WHEN you are ready to go backpacking, it would be good to invest in lighter smaller gear. A decent backpacking tent is pretty expensive.

r/CampingGear • Choosing a first time tent? ->I've spent about 50 nights in that tent, including some fairly heavy rain. Never had an issue with it.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Not sure what your budget is. Coleman is ok (we have one) but... I've had this REI Half Dome for *ages* and it has been awesome and a great value. I got a lot more features on par with higher end tents for a lot less. Features; Proper full coverage rain fly, with guy lines galore and decent vestibule. Gear loft. By extrapolation, I suspect their larger tents could be equally good values. At a quick glance the Skyward 6 might be worth checking out. Depends on if you think you're gonna use it enough times to justify the price. Of course something like a Coleman Sundome is less than half the price. The only downside is the lack of a full rain fly I guess. With my REI, I never have to worry about getting wet but with an exposed door like the Coleman or a Kelty Discovery you would probably want / need a tarp. Maybe for light, brief rain it is ok IDK. Seems like the good outdoors stores carry Kelty, Marmot, Eureka, North Face and others. I have no personal experience with them though. But those names have been around a long time.
r/camping • Best tent brand? ->Several recommendations for the Coleman tents. Of the two models mentioned, Sundome and Skydome, the Skydome is the far better tent in my opinion. The Skydome has an all clip suspension, while the Sundome has partial pole sleeves. An all clip suspension tent is much easier to pitch solo than a tent that uses sleeves. Stake the corners, assemble the poles, insert poles in the corners. Unzip the door, take off your shoes, step into middle of tent, clip the top clip over both poles. Attach the rest of the clips and add the fly. The Sundome, you'll have to raise the tent body as you insert the poles in the corners. That adds weight and resistance. Lastly, the Skydome has a full coverage rainfly, while the Sundome only comes down halfway. Spend a little more and get the superior tent.
r/CampingGear • Best 4p Tent for regular camping? ->Yea I feel quality has degraded recently (like everything) but my first sundome was bullet proof. I also think the made the rain fly smaller
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->The tent looks exactly like a Coleman Sundome tent. To the point where I'm pretty sure they just stole a picture of one and slapped their logo on it. An actual Coleman tent is pretty affordable and will last a good amount of time for the casual camper.
r/CampingGear • Should we buy for first time camping? ->Coleman. They routinely last longer than I want them to because they keep coming up with cheap better ones. My present sundome is easy to put up and take down. Fits my cot and air mattress, lots of room for my stuff I can’t leave out, works fine for car camping which is all I do.
r/camping • What brand of tent do you guys have? ->I have a sundome that I use when space and weight are not an issue. It's easy to set up, roomy, and has held up well so far.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I'd recommend the Coleman Sundome Tent. It's priced under $200, offers ample space for up to 4 people, and is waterproof.
r/camping • 4p tent under 200$ ->I have that tent. It works great, was like 50 bucks.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Believe the Coleman I had years ago was same model. Not a fan. If you wake up in the middle of the night after a few beers, tough to quickly find zippers for ‘escape hatch’ and then stupid stepover at bottom tripped me up all the time… even with no beers.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->5 year old Coleman Insta-Tent and Sundome are working okay. I'm looking for something lighter and a little better next year.
r/camping • What brand of tent do you guys have? ->I had a sundome for better than 20 years, and the only reason I don’t have it now it because I did something dumb.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->It lived a long life of many camping trips and festivals. I tore the bottom when I set it up carelessly and then I should have patched it but figured I’d do it later. Then there was a storm, and a lot of water….and it was still my house for the week with a big silver tarp over it. There was also a dead toad. I recycled it into a truck tarp for the return trip and now I have a Coleman Darkroom.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->My sundome has stood up to some seriously big storms and has so far lasted for over a decade...so I disagree on both your points.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I've had a Coleman Sundome and a similar Coleman Long's Peak. Both had premature (Sundome in year 3) door zipper failure. I just bought a very similar design Kelty and the quality of the materials is noticeably better.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I’ve had one stand up to VERY strong winds too. Not a drop of water got inside. One of the poles got a little fucked up, but that’s it.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->When I take my two kids camping we use to use a Coleman Sundome for a couple years but I got so tired of having to set it up and tear it down that I got a Gazelle T4 tent and I've been very happy with the ease of setting it up alone in under 90 seconds
r/camping • Any reason not to get a bigger tent. ->I've had that Sundome and it's fine for a budget car camping temp. Real nice for two people and a dog. Will fit a queen air mattress and still have room at the foot for a dog bed.
r/CampingGear • Best tents for newbies? ->I've never had a problem with decent full fly tents leaking. Partial fly tents like this Coleman have worked pretty well for me but what touches the walls tends to get damp.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Cheap and great for the price: a Coleman Sundome. Get a 3-person for every 2 people. We've had far fancier and more expensive tents, and the sundome just keeps going and going. It's not what you need for camping in a blizzard, but for family camping it's really amazing bang for the buck.
r/CampingGear • Anybody have any recommendations for a portable 2 person tent? ->This tent is going to be a pain the the butt. Get a large Coleman sundome.
r/camping • Planning my first camping trip ->The short answer is yes, car camping creates unnecessary wear on your backpacking tent and so it's more expensive in the long run to use the same tent for both and most car camping tents aren't well suited for backpacking. I don't know what Walmart tent you have so I can't look up the weight, but most of them are ridiculously heavy for backpacking. My current car camping tent is a Coleman sundome that weighs around 8 pounds. That doesn't feel that heavy just holding it but it's 3 pounds heavier than an REI 2 man backpacking tent and 6 pounds heavier than a Durston X-Mid 2. But to hit 2lbs you're using super thin materials, which means it's going to get worn out super fast if you're car camping on gravel. The other side of this is that a decent backpacking tent will run you $250-300, I bought my car camping tent on sale for $30. It has a heavy polyethylene bottom that's going to last much longer than the ultra thin silnylon they use on backpacking tents and even if it didn't last longer it's 10% the cost.
r/backpacking • Separate tents for backpacking vs. car camping ->I love my sundome. I spend time caring for it but I've had it almost a decade. Been camping all over America with it from the desert to the snow. People say ita a budget tent but price doesn't necessarily mean quality...this thing is pure quality imo.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Sundome has been my go to for over a decade for car camping, I’ve never had any leaks and they’re easy to set up and pack away.
r/camping • 4p tent under 200$ ->I am finally retiring my sundome that I got in the mid 90s. It served me well and I’d definitely recommend them!
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I have three tents. The Coleman Sundome happens to be one of them. I found it at a thrift store for $10 and the poles were still in the plastic. It’s the most convenient and easy to set up tent that I own. It’s a four man tent, but it’s perfect for one man and three dogs. My girlfriend and I have used it with two dogs and we still had room. I hope it works for you.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I love my sundome. Perfect for a little weekend or overnight trip for one to two people. Very easy to set up and tear down/pack away.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I've got the same exact tent. Used it at least over 30 times in the last year. It's got a few small holes that I put gorilla tape on but it's still kicking. Also I got a couple tarps from harbor freight for it to put underneath & over as a rain fly with some extra tent stakes rope I bought from Walmart. I believe the bottom tarp was 7' x 9' or something & I bought a 15' x 20' tarp to put on top.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->pretty decent, it won’t last you years or stand up in huge storms but it’s a good cheap beginner:)
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->My son and I just went camping in this tent. I've some experience camping and this is a solid tent. It's nothing fancy and there's not much room to move around in it, but it's sturdy. Pitching and striking it is a cinch too.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Mine let me down once, beach camping when the latter half of a typhoon blew down the coast, wind pulled the stakes and sent me and the tent rolling, great other than that.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Used this same tent for a trip in New Mexico back in May. Held up just as well to high winds as my brother's $1k North Face.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Bought it 3 years ago, it’s been from TN to WY and still looks brand new. Easy to setup and take down, works well in the rain. Great value
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->What are you using it for? Backpacking with family? I have Durston and Big Agnes UL tents. Car camping? I have a couple of Coleman Sundomes. Backpacking solo? I have a tarp and hammock setup for some place and others I take my Durston. Depends on the availability of trees.
r/camping • What brand of tent do you guys have? ->I had 2 colemans, and the latest that I have is Nature Hike 4P. Love it cuz of the two doors, airflow is alright, definitely better than my Coleman Sundome.
r/camping • What brand of tent do you guys have? ->Got my 2-person Coleman Sundome for $40 on sale, it literally survived a tornado while set up. I just had to stake it back down.
r/CampingGear • Should we buy for first time camping? ->Mine did too. That thing was reliable for several years.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->Agreed. While it is very dependent on your local climate the combo of a partial fly and woven poly floor on the sundome would mean I'm waking up in a puddle in my neck of the woods. Ideally I look for a full fly with vestibule and a fully taped tub floor. I'm pretty cheap and not too concerned about brand names but I'd pass on the sundome. Everyone suggesting it's perfectly fine must live and camp in very dry climates.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->That’s the one I have and it’s been great. Stood up to a hail storm in Idaho. Pretty good for standard camping
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->https://preview.redd.it/0gw70sr19sed1.png?width=506&format=png&auto=webp&s=d7dcacd775e0c94bee2bb3be285df2fd2bfc12d9 When I went to bed that evening, none of the snow was there. The Sundome is an incredible tent for its price point. I told myself when I bought it that it was just gonna be temporary until I could get something nicer but I still haven't found the need to replace it a year later.
r/camping • Thinking getting Coleman Sundome as a starter tent. Recommenbations? ->I’ve had instant tents from core and Ozark Trail and a Coleman dome tent. Any will do fine for getting into camping. I always stress not spending a lot when you get started. I’ve known people to start camping then quit after a few times or decide to buy a camper or get into back packing inside. Go budget amid use as much stuff that you already have to start out
