CORE IS great and they have a 6, 9 or 10 person option [CORE](https://campingzest.com/are-6-person-cabin-tents-good-for-family-camping-a-complete-guide/)
Go for the Core tent if you're a stand up in the tent & move around type. You'll like it. We got our big one pretty muddy and it was a heavy pain to clean. Hubby can stand & likes to bring a chair in. I like a smaller dome tent. I love my Kelty Late Start. The pole pockets and clips are great. I will never purchase another tent with sleeves for the poles to slide through (looking at you Coleman). Do you have any plans to backpack with the Scout Troop? Or are you exclusively car camping? Many scout camps require you to walk in your gear from a common parking area. If that's the case, having a wagon is key if you want to keep your large tent.
Core is generally reliable for beginners in my experience. How many people are actually sleeping in it? (Because 6-person tents are rarely comfortable for 6 adults haha)
6-person for that crew is perfect honestly. The extra space comes in handy for gear storage, especially when you're solo with the bike, keeps everything protected from weather. The 3 Bears (Kelty) is a bit nicer quality but pricier. For what you're doing, I'd say go Core and save the difference for camping gear.
Between those two, the CORE has better rainfly coverage and more straigtforward setup, while the 3 Bears has those extra awnings that'll just be a pain for a first timer to deal wth.
I absolutely love my Core. I have a 6 person straight wall cabin. I solo camp and can set it up myself in maybe 5-10 minutes depending if I'm in a hurry. The zippers are heavy duty and rarely get stuck, the door is nice and big so I can pull in all my gear if need be. I spray the tent in the spring and again in the fall to help water proof it. I love it because I can stand up in it (The instant tents were just a bit too short).
I have the 6 person with the full fly. Camped a night in a heavy rain storm and stayed nice and dry on the inside.
I did a ton of research on tents and we've used it probably 4 or 5 times now and it's truly a great tent. Very good quality, easy to put up (but almost definitely needs 2 people), and easy to take down and pack up. I have been looking these two as alternatives: https://www.coreequipment.com/products/6-person-lighted-instant-pyramid-tent-12-x-7 https://www.coreequipment.com/products/6-person-instant-cabin-tent-with-full-rainflly-11-x-9 The first is still really large length wise at 12'. The second is 3' smaller, and that instant rainfly would have REALLY came in handy at the monsoon that as Roo this year lmao. I will likely wind up purchasing the second one, as I think that might be exactly what I'm looking for.
They're basically the same. If you're getting into camping and want an easy to setup good all around tent to test the waters before dropping a lot more money, both are great choices. I personally had the Core for three years before wanting to upgrade to something a little higher end and that could be brought on an airplane, and I went with the North Face Wawona 6.
