Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
Not a fan of that tent design. By necessity of its design the poles are thin and flexible (so it can fold in on itself for breakdown) meaning even in light winds it can bwnd and fold on itself. A moderate or heavy wind would blow the outer walls straight into you. If you only ever plan to use in ideal conditions it may be ok though. The one you linked isn't large enough to stand up in, I know that was one of my SOs requirements to go camping, not sure about yours. Dark fabric for blocking sun is becoming more popular, personally I like more mesh for airflow but I have mostly previously camped in hotter areas (recently moved to a colder climate so learning new things lol) If it looks like it fits your needs and will be sufficient for the conditions and is in budget then sounds like it should work!
Dunno about the MH100 XL but the 2 Seconds F&B is neat, and also lighter. Super easy set up that'll even work under a rainstorm. Only inconvenience with Quechua pop ups is their packed size & shape... depends how you intend to carry it. Coleman and Quechua equally got poor durability, which is their major downside. But should do for occasional use like this.
We've got a 3-person Quechua fresh-black pop-up and it's great. It really does set up quickly and break down quickly once you've gotten used to it, and it's very roomy relative to other 3-person tents we've had. That being said: it's very much car camping gear and I don't think I'd want to be in a heavy rainstorm or wind storm in it. I wouldn't take it backpacking: it's far too bulky. But for car camping? It's great.
From what you’re saying, I think you’ve made a great call going for a lighter sleeping tent plus a small popup just for gear, those big “festival palaces” look cool but get so heavy and awkward, especially by train. If you haven’t bought yet, I’d recommend looking for a 2-person tent that has a decent vestibule (for shoes/bags) and is double-layered for better airflow/venting. Quechua 2 Seconds Fresh & Black is a good options of this use case imo.
I have the 3man pop up version of this tent with the easy button technolpgy and agree, it's a super tent. Wouldn't use anything else now.
Great tent for the price point! I've used the pop up tent for over 4 years when camping with the car. But they are by no means meant for backpacking. At that point you're better off buying something like a Naturehike mongar which is cheap, good quality, packs small and doesn't weigh as much
