r/CampingGearHas Anyone Tried an Inflatable Camping Tent? Pros and Cons?

There was another question about inflatable tents earlier in the week, I've copied my answer here and added a bit to it. I've got a Dometic Raratonga 401 I ordered from Europe (I'm in Canada.). Paid around $2000 CAD for it. We've had it for two years now and it's been pretty good. It's essentially a small wall tent. Setup and take down are pretty easy for a tent this size, but it does still need a good amount of pegs for support. It's fairly robust although we haven't used it in any high winds yet, but being inflatable you don't have to worry about poles snapping. The poles themselves are durable, think more of a paddle board than an air mattress. They are inflated to 10psi and don't need topping up. Mine actually came with a hole in a pole but it was very easily to patch and hasn't been an issue since. It has an awning, front room, blacked out sleeping area, and bag storage, so very roomy. Biggest down side is probably it's packed up size. It weighs about 75 lbs and is the size of a hockey bag. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

I've got a Dometic that I'm pretty happy with and they've got lots of size/material options.

I have a [Rarotonga 401](https://www.outdoorxl.com/dometic-ftt-raratonga-401.html). Not cubes, more like a small wall tent supported by air poles. Lots of room with an awning, front room, blackout sleeping space, and storage. Downsides are it is big packed up, like the size of a hockey bag and weighs around 75lbs, and needs a number of pegs for added support.

We've had this tent for almost 2 years now. It's a Dometic Raratonga 401 that we bought from outdoorxl in the Netherlands(we're in Canada) and it was around ~~$2000 CAD.~~ Edit: I found my original invoice. The tent was just over $1000 plus $400 for shipping. All in CAD. Setup and take down are pretty comparable to regular tents minus threading any poles. There are 4 poles that get inflated to 10 psi. It came with paddleboard style hand pump that works well but I sometimes supplement it with a 12v pump. It does take a decent amount of pegs to anchor it down, that probably takes the most amount of time. It's 6m x 3m set up. Packed away it's the size of a hockey bag and around 70 lbs. Haven't been through any big storms yet, but rain hasn't been an problem. The sleeping area is a tent within a tent for added protection. Poles are rock hard when inflated so I'm not super concerned about wind, also no poles to snap. I've patched a hole and it was simple and hasn't been an issue since.

I went and found my original invoice from ordering the tent. It was just over a grand for the tent plus $400 CAD for shipping, so around $1500 all in. I'm sure Outdoorxl would ship to the US, but there might be some extra tariffs on it now.

It's big, around 70 lbs and packs down to the size of a hockey bag. The poles need 10 psi to be fully inflatable. It came with a paddleboard hand pump and the 4 poles go up relatively quickly. I've got a 12v dewalt pump I'll use to start then finish with the hand pump.

We have owned 2 inflatable tents (zempire 10 person and a Dometic 4 person). The thought of going back to a normal dome tent and fucking around with poles is incredibly off-putting. Buy once, cry once. They're quick and easy to put up and down, never had one deflate during the night. The newer low end zempire are not so good from what I have heard which is why we went with the Dometic this time, zero regrets
