"Dropped about 9ozs and kicked myself the rest of the way down the trail for being so gullible. ... I could really feel those 9ozs off my back."
"For pack-in or hiking its FAR too heavy."
"Heavy af though. ... In general as a 2.8kg backpacking tent it's considered very heavy though, especially if you're taking days of food and other gear."

"the only thing that killed a bunch of them was when we camped on the Gulf Coast in Texas as a tropical storm rolled in."
If you like this tent just snag a Eureka Timberline and be happy with a much better tent.
r/camping • I've never wanted a piece of camping equipment like I want this one! ->True but being the standard issue boy scout tent for a very long time means six billion of them exist which makes them much easier to find.
r/camping • I've never wanted a piece of camping equipment like I want this one! ->Eureka is a good brand. I had a Timberline that no storm could penetrate. I agree with others that it's a bit heavy for backpacking.
r/CampingGear • Looking for a tent, this price seems really good but maybe too good to be true. Does anybody here have any experience with this tent/brand? I'm looking to camp in semi-wet/rainy conditions as I live in the Pacific Northwest. any other recommendations besides this product are more than welcome :) ->Been using our Eureka Timberline a-frames for YEARS. We have the two and four person (which we use respectively for one and two people, for roomy comfy car camping- not backpacking). They’ve lasted through hundreds of nights in all climates. Yes, it’s gonna get some moisture on the inside of the walls if it’s pouring down rain for hours on end. But these things are tanks. Simple to set up, and just last for a very long time.
r/BuyItForLife • Is there such thing as a “good” tent? ->Alps Mountaineering offers similar value and BSA discounts. Facebook marketplace is full of smoking deals on Eureka tents. I just got a Timberline for $30. It was missing one of the end poles. $16 from eBay got me two of them.
r/CampingGear • Eureka Tents best equivalent ->Same, I’ve had mine since 1995ish and it’s held up great!
r/camping • I've never wanted a piece of camping equipment like I want this one! ->Same - have the green as well! I discovered that tent bc my dad actually had the same one for years, too. It’s a classic.
r/camping • I've never wanted a piece of camping equipment like I want this one! ->That reminds me of the Eureka A-Frame tents we always used in Boy Scouts. They were great. We could set them up and tear them down in no time.
r/camping • I've never wanted a piece of camping equipment like I want this one! ->That will be so easy to drop a ton of base weight when you get a good tent. I was at 6 lb 2 person eureka. Got a 3.75 lb MSR Hubba Hubba in 2020. Last 2-3 years I have had the extreme pleasure of carrying the just over 1 lb Durston xmid pro 2. It’s pricy but the regular xmid is much more affordable. And double wall vs single wall of the pro. Nemo Hornet and any of the BA tents are great too.
r/backpacking • Just getting started, rate my gear ->eureka timberline, official Boy Scouts tent I could set up in the dark without a light, great in rain
r/camping • Which camping tent is best for 1-2 people? ->Oh I love my Eureka Timberline!! It’s gotta be 22 years old now. Did you hear they sold the company.. 😭😭 Anyway. I just came to appreciate the Eureka!
r/CampingGear • Kelty, Coleman or Big Agnes Tent? ->If you can find one, get a Eureka Timberline SQ Outfitter 4. I've been camping in these style tents for thirty years in all seasons and they always hold up. The Assault Outfitter 4 is also an excellent choice. My personal tent is a Timberline SQ Outfitter 2 though, plenty of room for just me plus my gear. Unfortunately, Johnson Outdoors is discontinuing the Eureka line so their tents are becoming harder to come by. The good news is the new ones that are still out there are priced for clearance. It's really too bad though, Eureka tents have always been a "buy it for life" item.
r/CampingGear • Looking for recommendation on all season four person tent for scouts ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS
