"The best part is the huge vestibule. ... On super rainy days we can set up our camp chairs in there and cook with the stove no problem, the dogs sleep out there and it's a great place to dry stuff."

"I’m 6’4” and I have plenty of room ... I sleep on the diagonal just for extra head room but I can fit straight across ... I can sit straight up in the tent and move around ... there’s still room in the tent for most of the extra gear in my pack"

"Can fit 2 cots, 2 camp chairs, and the dog bed no problem."

"Our Coleman once sat through a torrential downpour with tornado warnings in Cypress Hills while water pooled and ran all around it and it stayed completely dry inside."

"I had it set up during a crazy storm and had no water come in it. Really nicely designed"

"My core instant tent went through damn near hurricane storms and not even a drip."

"It’s taken 50-60mph gusts on front, rear and side with no issues."

"Very simple design and it's built well (it has even accidentally fallen to the bottom of my pool one time, pulled it out, kept playing and has had no issues)"

"ate the rain and wind storms with no issues. ... It's a tank."

"I was hesitant about the instant part of it having not used one before, but I love it. I can put it up/take it down by myself"

"Coleman is stupid easy to set up ... this is so easy and takes a lot of stress away ... It’s easy ... You don’t have to think about it."

"Goes up super fast"

"Dropped about 9ozs and kicked myself the rest of the way down the trail for being so gullible. ... I could really feel those 9ozs off my back."

"For pack-in or hiking its FAR too heavy."

"Heavy af though. ... In general as a 2.8kg backpacking tent it's considered very heavy though, especially if you're taking days of food and other gear."

"Tigerwall tents will not work. ... I tried them and at 6'2" they were both too small."

"Even if you only have one I regret going with the two person over the three when I take my girlfriend camping with me"

If you like this tent just snag a Eureka Timberline and be happy with a much better tent.

True but being the standard issue boy scout tent for a very long time means six billion of them exist which makes them much easier to find.

Been using our Eureka Timberline a-frames for YEARS. We have the two and four person (which we use respectively for one and two people, for roomy comfy car camping- not backpacking). They’ve lasted through hundreds of nights in all climates. Yes, it’s gonna get some moisture on the inside of the walls if it’s pouring down rain for hours on end. But these things are tanks. Simple to set up, and just last for a very long time.

Alps Mountaineering offers similar value and BSA discounts. Facebook marketplace is full of smoking deals on Eureka tents. I just got a Timberline for $30. It was missing one of the end poles. $16 from eBay got me two of them.

Same - have the green as well! I discovered that tent bc my dad actually had the same one for years, too. It’s a classic.

That will be so easy to drop a ton of base weight when you get a good tent. I was at 6 lb 2 person eureka. Got a 3.75 lb MSR Hubba Hubba in 2020. Last 2-3 years I have had the extreme pleasure of carrying the just over 1 lb Durston xmid pro 2. It’s pricy but the regular xmid is much more affordable. And double wall vs single wall of the pro. Nemo Hornet and any of the BA tents are great too.

If you can find it, the Eureka Timberline is an excellent tent that our troop had used for years now. It’s been used in 4 seasons and has an optional vestibule that can store a bunch of gear. There is another tent in that lineup that’s actually rated as 4 season, but having as much experience in the Timberline as I do, I don’t think I’d opt for that one, simply because it costs more. We always used a ground sheet under the tent and one of those reflective emergency tarps with the grommets in the corners (not the cheap ones you’d find in a first aid kit) inside to sleep on top of. Reflective side up, and obviously on our foam pads, but we earned the 12 month campers unit badge for as many years as I was enrolled.

The Ozark Trail a-frame tent from Walmart, but the rain fly doesn’t reach all the way to the ground. I have a Eureka Timberline, but purchased secondhand.
