Fair enough, the liner slapping your face in wind is a well-known Akto annoyance. If fewer stakes and left-side entry matter most, the Nordisk Telemark 1 and Fjällräven Abisko Lite 2 are worth a look — both have better headroom too, and Bergfreunde stocks them.

Yeah the Abisko Lite being basically an Akto clone is a letdown — expected better headroom there. The Telemark at 5 stakes is at least a step forward, but the right-hand entry is still annoying. Honestly, left-entry freestanding solo tents seem surprisingly rare.

Uses thinner, much less durable materials than Hilleberg, there are some examples of issues with the two different weight materials separating, and by many accounts, Fjallraven customer care is not great. Apart from that, it does look a decent tent. I was looking at the Abisko Lite 2 as it's half the price of the Hilleberg Nammatj but after weighing up the better quality of the Hilleberg, better customer care, better materials, better longevity, I decided that the Hilleberg was the better value for money. Check out Tom Heaney on YouTube, he has a few videos on the Abisko Lite 2, as well as many Hillebergs which he tests in high winds.

I guess it depends on the specific tunnel and dome. Overall I find domes to be better for headroom but more effort to set up and have less total space for their weight, and tunnels are better for wind (in my opinion, I know it's a contentious issue for some) and for particularly harsh weather. There are also geodesics which outperform both tunnels and domes for headroom and wind resistance, but they're much heavier so are only really needed in the most extreme conditions. I tend to use 2 or 3 pole tunnels most of the time (don't have any experience with single pole tunnels but feel they might be a bit claustrophobic and small), and the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 2 is my go-to 4 season tent. I like how simple they are and there's very little to go wrong or fail on you. Also the fact they can be put up with only 4 pegs in still conditions is great for when you want to throw the shelter up in seconds to get out of the rain.

Yeah it heavily depends on the specific tents in question and their design. My Abisko Lite flies up in no time but I've used other tunnels that can be awkward. I remember OEX Phoxx being a bit of a hassle to pitch. Out of those two I'd definitely be choosing the Helm 1. I haven't used that but have used the Helm 2 and it's a palace inside, for the winter months I really value a bit of extra space inside even if it means carrying more weight.

I’d add the Fjallraven Abisko Lite - I have the 3 which sleeps 2 wide mats but there are smaller ones. It’s a cracking 4 season tent for just over 2kgs. I own an Xdome 2 and a Tarptent Hogback (for family backpacking) and the Abisko Lite is the one I reach for whenever I can…

I like the Fjallraven Abisko tunnel tents. My 4p is decidedly higher quality than the Nemo Dragonfly 2p I use for bicycle trekking with my son. Horses for courses of course. If camping in summer in no wind, you’d not want too much tent anyway.
