Budget would be good. I’d definitely recommend a 4 season but like how much do you want to spend? The hilleberg jannu is an amazing tent for anything Mother Nature can throw at you but it’s also around $2,500.

How many people you need to sleep mate? Unless your talking extreme mountain top camping you could just go with something like the north face storm break 2. Comes in at under $500. Or a mont Moondance for a little extra. Msr elixir for around $600. If you need it lighter for hiking you could go with Hyperlite Mountain Gear UltaMid 4. Really 50km winds is pretty manageable for anything Mother Nature can throw at you any dome style tent that’s not so cheap rubbish. I myself use a hyperlight unbound 2 but again that was a little over a grand. I also use a durston x mid 2 in warmer weather, that’s around $500 and it’s probably my favorite tent of all of the ones I’ve accumulated over the years. 50k winds would be nothing for it but it may get a bit drafty inside. But it’s gotten more use than any tent I’ve ever owned! Light as shit and comfy!

Neither, I'd get a Hilleberg tent, from the red line (expedition rated) ... but I'm biased since I have one (Jannu) and have used on of their tents whenever I was out.... even in the army ... so unless you are locked to either of these.. id check them out.

For alpine, windy or snowy conditions, nothing beats a Hilleberg. Pricey though. Akto is my favorite one man shelter of all time (tunnel style). Soulo for a freestanding one man, but with a significant weight penalty. The Rogen is a sweet freestanding two man design. Has more airflow than some of their other models, but will handle wind like a champ. Excellent weight/space/weather compromise.

Hilleberg is solid but damn those prices hurt. If you're not doing serious mountaineering the MSR Hubba series is way more reasonable and still built like a tank

People shit on hilleberg prices till they use a hilleberg in less than ideal weather. I’ll tolerate the price for the long life and ability to handle some nasty weather. Most places in the states below tree line don’t need one though.

Hilleberg, TarpTent, SlingFin, Samaya. Real expeditions are more likely to choose Hilleberg. Their strongest tents are not super light, but they are made to withstand serious weather.

if money isnt a thing then hilleberg, black label series, a staika model kept me and my guide protected and safe when it snowed 14 inches on a high country elk hunt, they are awesome, im from Tennessee we dont need best quality expedition tents generally even in the eastern mountains. but having used that one for a week i can say that one was great.

I swear by my Hilleberg, but that's a terrible deal, even on a great tent.
