I have the 10x10 kind of wish i went with the bigger one. You can fit a queen air mattress with 2 ft on each side to walk.
You use lag bolts as stakes? Its so much faster with a drill/driver. I have a little standup tent i put a cassette toilet in. As i get older i find i need one closer . Shit happens. Im going to post a vid of my tent in 50 mph winds just outside RMNP. I cant believe how well it held up. I know i have it on some HD. Put on a 4in topper for max comfort on the air matt.
I have a 10x10 Kodiak and it’s a piece of cake to set up and I love it
I really love my Kodiak 10x14 canvas tent. Had it for 15 year now, and it's still going strong. Holds up to some serious abuse that would destroy other tents, including high winds and snow loads. It is heavy but sets up pretty easily and very well made. Springbar is the other company that makes canvas tents that are similar, but a bit pricier. I'm 6'4" and I can easily stand up inside. They are very spacious inside and less expensive than your max budget. They also have a 10x10 version if you don't need the extra space.
Our 10x10 Kodiak Canvas tent has been the best tent we ever bought. Still just the 2 of us, but we throw a queen size cot and air mattress in it and still have room that we can move our camp chairs in it when it rains etc. At first I thought it would be annoying to setup and tear down. But after a few trips we can get it up in a couple minutes and tear down about the same. It's nice to be able to stand up fully as well. Only downside is they're pricey.
Living in Alberta you definitely need something that can handle a random June snowstorm or those nasty prairie winds. If you are already looking at the Kodiak 10x10 just pull the trigger. It is a total beast and the definition of buy once cry once. Unlike your old Coleman the steel poles on a Kodiak will not snap in a breeze and the canvas breathes so much better so you won't deal with that swampy condensation on humid nights. At 10x10 you still have over 6ft of headroom and plenty of floor space for a queen tall mattress plus your gear. The only downside is the weight and the pack size so make sure you have room in the truck. It will literally last you a decade if you dry it out properly before storage.
My Kodiak goes up in under 10 mins with one person what the living hell are you talking about??? Literally my non-canping wife has set it up alone for a girl's trip with zero issues
I have Kodiak canvas 10x10 perfect for 2 and a dog, I'd go bigger for more people Had it almost 10 years, probably 350 nights in it, besides being a little dirty on the roof, I plan on getting 10 more years from it. I also rock their sleeping bags and camp chairs, all VERY high quality, worth the spend, and mad comphy Get the tarp they sell to keep the crap off the top of your tent. I do not because I like to watch the birds walk on the roof in the am🤣 Maybe get a buddy heater for cold nights I would also buy a good screen room for the bugs and all
Get a big and small Kodiak. I've had my 10x10 for 7 years, got over 30 nights a year easy on it, never a leak, zippers all still like new. I'd invest in the new thing they have to go over the top to keep it clean. Get the sleeping bag too... AMAZING for truck camping, I LOVE mine!!!
Please get a Kodiak canvas, they're like 500-600, so a little more than you planned, but it will last you a lifetime, it's kid proof----highend zippers, ECT. You can stand comfortably, I had my two adult kids and, my son in law all in cots so 3 cots and there was room for all the gear with dog space left over in the 10x10 I absolutely love mine and would never even consider a nylon POS again BTW I'm damn near 60 and can put it up no problem Had it for a good while now, plan it's the last tent I'll ever buy
Look at Kodiak canvas, they have a separate vestibule, and while they aren't light, you can definitely put it up yourself, watch a few videos. Mine probably has about 350-400 nights of camping on it and I expect it will be the last car camping tent I ever buy
