I don't know how much you want to carry. I have a marmot limestone 4p, which isn't too large in my opinion. It has a nice bag with a nice handle and the footprint, which you buy separately, fits in the bag.
We have a Marmot Limestone 4P tent we use for BWCA trips and it’s held up well the past 4 years. We survived the 7”+ deluge on Crab Lake last June without anything getting wet inside. It runs almost 11 pounds, so it’s not the lightest one on the market. However, it’s been rock solid for us.
Our Marmot Limestone 4p tent fits both our single Expeds + some extra room, and we have camped with 2 dogs in it.
Oh, and they are the long x-wide.
Getting the rainfly onto the wawona 6 by yourself can be a pain in the ass but I’ve done it plenty of times camping with my son. He’s too young to be of any help with a task like that. Attaching the fly to the back of the tent first and then throwing it up and over is how I’ve always done it. That tent is a castle. I love the space you have in the vestibule but it can be a pain setting up something with such a large footprint in some sites so make sure you book one where it will fit. I actually just ordered a marmot limestone 4p so I can have something smaller for when I won’t have the luxury of using the wawona and its massive vestibule.
I agree. We’ve had a Limestone 4 for years and have had 2-3 trips where it rained all day, every day, and we’ve never had a single leak.
Just bought a Marmot Limestone 4 person tent and set it up for the first time. I’ve got room for an inflatable mattress, a small table and chair. I can stand inside and not have to crawl out into the dirt. It’s a game changer for sure. Really nice for car camping.
Keep in mind that a tent will keep you dry. Your sleep system will keep you warm. Look at REI, North face, marmot or MSR brand 3-4 person tents. A 3-4 person tent will sleep both of you comfortably with your gear inside. To manage winds, look for full fly tent and make sure you have enough points to tie guylines. Sure, I get where you are coming from, not really an advantage but better experience, at least for me. My personal experience is with one of my older tent coleman sundome, where the fly kind of goes just below where the screen material is. In windy conditions, the, due to the gap, the wind finds its way in and make the fly very flap around a lot and hence its very loud. My experience with a full fly tent, I have a marmot limestone, I can pull the fly tight and low to the ground which minimizes the wind going under the fly and therefore the wind noise due to the material flapping around. YMMV
Not sure why the guy is getting down voted for being right Listen my guy, I have a marmot limestone and I love it. I'm a huge fan of their brand. But if you are looking to spend over 400 bucks for a backpacking ultralight tent, you have a ton more options. My backpacking tent is the Nemo hornet I got on sale for 327 at REI and it's freaking awesome and very very light. I got it down to like 2 and a half pounds. I have a 3p as well. My buddy got the big Agnes tiger wall and that's a solid tent as well. If you want to go lighter, you can go with a trekking pole tent... Quite a few out there as well. Tldr I wouldn't get the limelight tent as if too heavy for the price.
Exactly this. We bought a limestone last summer and have used it a couple of times and it's been a champ.
I like full coverage rain flys and good vestibules. Marmot Limestone has been my recent purchase and I’m quite happy with it. Great headroom. Before that, I used (and still have) my older 4 season REI Basecamp 6.p — great for storms, not much for headroom though.
I have the Halo 6p and used to own the Limestone. Both are exceptional.
