Rei has some great house brand gear. I am currently using their 30deg down quilt and a campwell pad. The quilt is tiny and light. The pad is like almost 30 inches wide and rolls up to about 6 inches. It's huge and I get glorious sleep on it. I use rokstraps to secure it to my seat. I've tried inflatable pads like the klymit static v. I just don't sleep well on them. Thermarest has some really nice pads. Some self inflating, some not, insulated... Lots of options. For a pillow I use a down jacket stuffed into my quilts stuff sack and a klymit shredded memory foam pillow. Tent I have a Marmot Superalloy 2p. It's very small and light. I keep the poles and pegs in a separate bag. The tent goes in the saddlebag and the pole bag goes in my camp chair bag and straps down to the seat. Jetboil is the tried and true camp stove. I have the flash. It all stows inside itself. It's relatively compact and light. Rugged enough for moto camping. Steapandcheap usually has good gear on sale. I got my tent there for 1/2 the price. It was a couple of years old but new. You can see the packed size and weights on their site. Nemo makes some light and small backpackers tents and sleeping bags. One of my riding buddies uses them and loves them. zenbivy looks like a nice sleep system. If I had to buy my system again I might go that route. My wife and I share my 2 person Marmot Superalloy. With ground sheet and upgraded stakes it come in at 3#. I use it for just me on backpacking trips and my wife and I when she comes along. It’s cozy for the two us but not uncomfortable. I’m tall and big, she’s short and medium build. I have shared it with my youngest child as well, tall and big like me and we were ok. I have a bigger heavier roomier tent we use for car camping trip.
27 is nice. I typically carry about 40-45# total for a 5 day trip. I like some comforts and there’s always room for whiskey and chocolate. 30yrs ago my pack would weight in close to 70# for a week trip. For backpacking tent now I currently have a Marmot Superalloy 2p. I upgraded the stakes and added a groundsheet and it comes it at 3#. I still have my 30yr old Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight. Bombproof tent, not very roomy and can’t sit up in it. Weighs in about 4.5#.
I've done Shasta 2x, both times with the a similar tent you've got (Marmot Superalloy 2p). If I had to pick a place to make an investment, it'd be on a better ground pad. 4 season tents weigh 3-5x as much and frankly, on a warm night, will be equally frustrating. Better ground pad gets you off the glacier and keeps you a lot warmer.
Marmot tents are a great buy. They’re not the lightest, but the bang-for-buck value is outstanding. I got a 2p on clearance for $125 back in 2010 and used it for 5+ years before upgrading it and using as a loaner tent. If you’re actually backpacking, check the weights, as some are kinda heavy. Also note that some come with the footprint, so factor that into your weights, as well.
Go with the Marmot. I have the Marmot 2 person and am happy with it.
So two person backpacking tents are pretty snug for two people. I only use a 2p with another person if it’s my partner. That said, marmot tents are awesome and that’s a good price. I have a marmot 2p that’s over ten years old. Upgraded to an ultralight (not marmot) and my next tent will likely be another marmot
