for how many people? i love my marmot tents. i have 4 different ones now. a giant 6p for family / car camping. a 3p for when its just me and another adult or me and my two kids. a 1p ul backpacking tent. i also have a much older 3p tent maybe 10yr old that had a "window" in the rain fly that delaminated a year ago and they replaced the entire tent with my current brand new 3p tent for freeee. i thought they would just send a replacement rain fly but got a whole new tent and then fixed the rainfly on my own. my 1p tent i've had for 15+ years and its holding up great still.

In addition to the durston tents as already suggested (I have the x mid and while its very light because it’s a trekking pole tent, the fabric feels quite durable), I want to suggest the marmot tungsten 1 person tent. Less than 4lbs, durable, comfortable, less than $300. It’s the first backpacking tent I bought and it’s still the one I reach for on shorter trips where I’m not worried about weight. It’s so easy to set up, stays stable in wind and rain, and fits it pretty small spots without feeling claustrophobic inside. Others have suggested big Agnes — while I love the big Agnes fly creek 1p I have I would not describe it as very durable. I do a lot more patching of holes on that tent than the other two I mentioned. Still a great tent and I’m not getting rid of it anytime soon, but I don’t think it’s what you are looking for.

tungsten ul is so simple and fast to set up. I love my tungsten so much, especially when it rains, no sagging like my nemo kunai 3p does. It ventalates well too. I didn't consider the limelight ul, but is seems a bit lighter. The weird wings are interesting, seemto require extra stakes, but could add indoor space if you need it more than the vestabule.

Check out steep and cheap online. I've had a marmot tungsten UL tent for the last 6 years or so and I use it probably 60 nights a year at least. Has been awesome

I’ve used Marmot standard and UL tents. I’m not sure I would use an UL tent as my main tent (unless you’re backpacking all the time). The standard feels more durable, but both have held up for me. My recommendation for backpacking tents are Tarptents. Really like those.

Must haves (I’ve passed over and returned tents for these) Poles that clip instead of slide into sleeves. Makes setup/takedown super fast and easy.  High Quality zippers/fabric/hardware Full rain fly with vestibule for shoes. Double doors.  Good ventilation and plenty of mesh. Available oem Footprint Nice to haves: (Increase comfort and usability but aren’t total dealbreakers) Headroom is important to my family, but not a big deal for me personally.  Straight walls which keep the interior feeling open.  These two hit all those marks for me: Mountain hardwear Mineral king https://www.mountainhardwear.com/p/mineral-king-3-tent-2102591.html Marmot tungsten https://www.marmot.com/equipment/tents/4-person/tungsten-4-person-tent/SP_1031644.html

Marmot Tungsten, Naturehike Mongar 2p, Big Agnes Copper Spur, Durston X-Dome... Lots of great options out there. Get a tent with a mesh body, not a solid body, for summer. The Sundomes is a good tent but gets hot and doesn't air out as well as a higher grade shelter since it has mostly solid walls.

I really love my Mormot Tungsten. It is a little heavier than some of the other Recs but is roomy and has withstood some intense PNW rain. It also comes in an ultra light version (I don’t think it’s actually ultralight, but it is lighter than the OG version). Don’t pay full price for it though, Marmot tents are on sale all the time. I don’t like the zipper geometry on the MSR elixir and hubba for heavy rain and damp/dew- it’s meant so you don’t have to reach so far out into the vestibule to open your fly, but i find it means the zipper can drip into your tent through the open door.

How do you like it? I have the version from about 10 years ago. Does yours have that random wing added?

I bought a Marmot Tungsten years ago….Definitely aesthetically pleasing, great quality, easy set up. I just wish I got the 4-person instead of the 3.

Both of these tents are really huge for solo camping. I have the Snow Peak Alpha Breeze and I love it for me, my partner, and our dog. However, it’s a little more challenging to set up alone than other tents due to the heavy metal poles and the old school pin design (where you hook the poles into the tent body). You absolutely need a second person to help. The other tent you listed would be easier to set up alone. I would recommend looking at a 2 or 3 person tent instead for a solo camping experience. Both are plenty big if you have a partner or kid with you, and it would be much cheaper. If you become an REI member, you can get in on the Labor Day sales and then also have the option to return the tent if you decide it’s not working out. I really like the Marmot Tungsten for a spacious 3 person that’s also super simple to set up alone.

I own Kelty, North Face and Marmot backpacking tents, and can attest to their durability, ease of use and agreeable weight. I've used them both in the backcountry as well as when going car camping.

I'd add marmot to that list too for the 3-season and backup the canvas with stove for freezing weather.
