6kg. Little bit heavy for one person but solid tent. Unsure whether I had it the right way round in terms of wind direction but there seemed to be more guy points the blue end than the red end. Either way, held up well against some big gusts. Will hopefully take the little one out in this once she's older. We'll see. Anyone else have a Mountain Hardwear tent? Picked it up off sport pursuit for around £600. It was that or a £1500 Hilleberg which I don't think would have boded well with the other half ... /My bank account.
Sticks out like a sore thumb but the only colour option unfortunately. Would usually go for the less offensive green but oh well!
Used about 3 bags of pegs! It's like a palace inside though. Overkill for one but good fun.
I've only used it twice so far. With the other half and the dog and last night with just myself and the dog. I think it could fit 4 at a push. I mainly bought it as it's one of the bigger 4 person 4 season tents. Hopefully will be using it comfortably with 2 adults, the little one and the dog.
Each to their own I suppose. I bought the tent for my family to use, so I would rather have something solid and have greater peace of mind than a few less kgs and worry about the tent failing. It may be excessive but not ridiculous or insane 😆 I'm not bothered by a heavy pack. Alternative would be a 3 season tent which I imagine in today's conditions wouldn't cut it, so maybe they are necessary? Depends what you do/where you go. Maybe I should mention that I carry it all in a 100l pack but I'm sure that would start a whole other discussion... I'm comfortable with it :)
Have you got any recommendations for lightweight 4 person 4 season tent?
Cheers fella, appreciate that. Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post, I don't know?!?! but yes I bought this tent for family use. I think this is the biggest 4 person 4 season tent you can buy (I would love to be corrected) and I need room, hence why I bought it! If only there were a dedicated subreddit for ultralight discussions 😜 plonkers
6kg isn’t a little bit heavy for one person, it’s ridiculously heavy even for several people. If you were on a polar mission and carrying it in a pulk then sure, but for backpacking that’s insane. You mentioned a £1500 Hille as the alternative, which I’m guessing would be a Black Label tent, but I’d argue tents like this aren’t really necessary for the UK. Unless, of course, you are actually planning an extreme polar expedition 🙂
TNF 25 = high altitude, almost exped level alpine mountaineering tent. MH = solid 4-season tent for more “typical” winter camping. Both good options but def different horses for different courses. As others have said, there are plenty of other options for both categories.
MH Trango is the one, if its good enough for Everest its good enough for pretty much anything lol
Only one of these is actually a 4 season tent. The trango is another otion to look at.
