Full rain fly or GTFO. Also a NE USA camper. The cabanas tent is insanely priced. I debated but decided to buy once cry once and bought a 6p MSR. I’ve been camping since for 20 years, started in scouts. If you’ve never camped before, start with this: https://www.coleman.com/camp-sports/tents-by-size/skydome-6-person-screen-room-camping-tent-with-dark-room-technology/SAP_2206907.html Never used a dark tent myself, but with a baby it can help. My 4.5 year old sleeps fine even when light creeps in a regular tent and napped in the sun when he was little. If you forego the dark version you can save some $.
I would recommend buying as little as possible until you understand your use case and if you’ve never camped even like it. My experience with big poly tents is that they suck. My 6p MSR was plenty for my stepdad on a cot, and myself and son on a full size mattress. After doing this a bunch and now going with my kids, I know I wanted the biggest vestibule possible and that what I got with the MSR Habiscape Lounge 6. They don’t make this model anymore unfortunately.

Just bought the MSR Habiscape. Expensive and hard to find but looks incredible.
There are so many good tents out there. Was just looking at the best sellers on REI and think many would fit the bill. I also camp in MN and just bought an MSR Habiscape. I love it!
MSR Habiscape. I have one and it’s been great.
Yes. That is exactly why I got this tent. The full fly is much more robust and backcountry ready. It doesn’t matter the weather. I always feel confident we will be dry. I also really appreciate the quality and reputation of MSR. Not that North Face has a bad reputation. I am sure the Wawona is a great tent too.
MSR Habiscape. Been using one for a few years ands it’s solid in all conditions. Plus it has plenty of vestibule space. And really handy pass through pockets.
My MSR Habiscape is dead simple.
I'd just put a tarp overhead. Alternatively, I've been in ridiculous thunderstorms for days in my Eureka El Capitan and my MSR Habiscape and never a drop inside.
