If most of you are over 6 ft tall and you aren't going to be backpacking, you should consider getting 2 6-person tents. I have a MSR habitude 6 and at 6'4" I can stand upright in the center of it and I have plenty of room for my dog and guests. It is much easier to set up than a 8/10-person, and it is a great tent for rain and wind. Having an easy setup and more room is something you will want for rainy days when people might want to spend more time in shelter. https://www.rei.com/product/248684/msr-habitude-6-tent

I have a MSR Habitude 6. It's been great so far, durable, easy set up and has held up in the wind and rain better than any tent I have owned. They also make a 4-person version.

6p. Get one with a full coverage rainfly from a reputable manufacturer with a lifetime warranty. You want a mesh inner so you have better ventilation. * Marmot Limestone 6p * Marmot Halo 6p * Big Agnes Bunk House 6p * Eureka Space Camp 6p * Sierra Designs Nomad 6p * MSR Habbitude 6p * MSR Habbiscape 6p FYI July 4 sales are coming up. We will have another deal megathread posted in a week. I would wait to buy anything.

The Halo 6p is an awesome choice. So is the Big Agnes Bunk House 6p or 8p. Other great choices are: MSR Habitude MSR Habbiscape Sierra Designs Nomad Eureka Space Camp. This one in particular is a great bargain as Johnson Outdoors is discontinuing this brand. You can get this one for as cheap as $250 or so. Marmot Limestone 6p Marmot Midpines or Pacifica 6p. This is the exact same tent except the colors. The Midpines is sold exclusively at Amazon and the Pacifica is a Dick's Sporting Good/Public Lands exclusive. This one only has one door as vestibule. Most family camping tents have 2 doors and vestibules. The footprint for the Midpines fits the Pacifica. Big Agnes Mad House Nemo Aurora Highrise. This one is decent but lacks a full coverage fly. North Face Wawona. As cheap as $300 on sale. Has a giant porch vestibule. Lacks a full coverage rainfly though.

The Skyward is a major downgrade compared to the Eureka Space Camp, Marmot Limestone, MSR Habiscape/Habitude, Big Agnes Bunk House 4p. REI got rid of the full coverage rainfly and went to a mostly single walled design with a rain cap instead of a full coverage fly. This results in no vestibule, more condensation problems and way worse ventilation. The previous Grand Hut was a way better tent.

All all good choices. The Wawona 6p can be had for $299 assuming you can find one in stock. The Wawona has a large vestibule porch area but is large to setup. It does not have a full coverage rainfly. The Wawona 4p doesn't come with the really big vestibule of the 6p, you have to buy an optional vestibule accessory to get that. The Aurora Highrise doesn't have a full coverage rainfly and I would avoid it. The Big House is basically the Bunk House without the Big front vestibule or the really nice carry bag. It has a more basic stuff sack. You can buy an optional vestibule for this. Habitude/Habbiscape are similar. The Habbiscape is a newer design and is a little bit larger. Only a single door and vestibule on this tent.

For that many people it would be best to have two smaller tents (like two family camping 40p or even 6p tents) or a single 8p tent. 4p family camping tents are not usually standing height. You want tents with full coverage rainflys and semi mesh bodies for better ventilation and ability to hold up to crappy weather. Aluminum poles, not fiberglass. You also want to buy the tent footprint and I recommend buying aftermarket tent stakes and additional guyline. Personally I like the Paria Outdoor Products Spiral Y beam stakes for family camping tents. 4p and 6p options: * Marmot Limestone * Marmot Halo * Big Agnes Bunk House * MSR Habbitude * MSR Habbiscape * Eureka Space Camp * Sierra Designs Nomad There are not allot of 8p tents on the market anymore. They're also pretty expensive. * Big Agnes Bunk House 8p * Big Agnes Mad House 8p * Nemo Wagontop 8p (discontinued, might be hard to fine) * Marmot Limestone 8p (discontinued, might be hard to find) * Cheapo Coleman, Core, Ozark Trail tents. These are not full coverage rainfly and don't hold up very well to strong weather. You get what you pay for here.

Msr habitude 6 is amazing. I don't have the footprint, a tarp works great. Fantastic tent, great storage with tons of pockets, I can actually walk around without stooping. Poles are very quality, whole thing isn't too heavy, zippers are great.

Yea idk what this guy is looking at. He has a space camp which is a middle of the road tent. OP, try MSR Habitude or Snow Peak Alpha Breeze.

Check out the MSR Habitude. I’ve spent probably 50 nights in one it’s great (have not used it in the rain). For any tent if it’s windy get heavier duty stakes from Amazon. I use a tarp not an actual footprint.

I spend a lot of time camping on the coast of North Carolina where winds go from 10-45+ mph on a normal weekend. I use a full fly dome, with a lower profile with long sand stakes. Usually I use a Marmot Limelight pointed into the wind (helps with bugs). This year I moved up to a MSR Habitude for more room, but has a similar design.
