Helm Compact 2

The Helm is a very storm worthy tent for the money (from experience), I’d say you’re reaching the limit of fun before the tent can’t handle it but some people have a strange definition of fun. I can’t speak to it with a snow load but have done 15+ hours of rain in a wind that blew a lorry over on the M6 (don’t ask, stayed put because for as long as my pegs were holding it was safer than heading off the hill to sleep in the bus stop…) Just make sure you get the tension even across the red pole else it can bend in heavy gusts.

Helm compact 2 is a great choice The panacea 2 is also great and a little cheaper. If budget can stretch then the xmid 2 will be half the weight and arguably more room but require trekking poles The stoic tunnel tent is something I’ve just tried out as I wanted something more spacious for when me are lass and our two dogs go on multi days, think I paid just over £200 and it’s a tardis with 4 season capability and super strong against wind, I’d give it a look at mate Hole this helps ⛺️

I took a helm compact 2 out on dartmoor saturday night. Bit flappy but could see the poles barely moving, highly recommend and agree I’m happier with extra weight compared to UL tents. Friends in UL tents were having a much rougher time and I’ve got a lot of confidence in my tent now. That said, still too loud for a proper night’s sleep. All part of the fun.

Helm for me all day long

I have the Helm 2 compact, I've used it in Scotland and the Lakes in some pretty inclement weather. Ample room for one plus dog. I really like it, so much so I bought the Helm3 compact too, great for 2 plus dog. I'd recommend getting the foot print for it, especially with the dog being in it.

They will take a fair amount of punishment, more than you'd think if it's well-pitched, but I wouldn't be keen to plonk it on a mountain summit in winter. It depends what you mean by 'harsh' really.

Definitely go with the Helm.
