My husband is your height so we got the Nemo hornet 3 person for extra comfort. Still pretty light. We love it. You could get the 2p …
My wife and I have had the 2p versions of the BA Copper Spur, BA Tiger Wall, and Nemo Dragonfly. I didn;t like the Tiger Wall, and the Dragonfly had less head room than the Copper Spur and was heavier (this was an older generation). We still have the CS2P but two years ago we switched to the Hornet 3P w/ Osmo. Love that tent, and I don't see where we'll be switching to anything else. Really spacious, yet quite light for a DW. I've used various 1P Hornet's going back 10 years, and currently have the "Elite" 1P in Osmo. It handles weather really well. Osmo fabric is great. In your shoes, I'd definitely go with the Hornet 3P.
Since you want a double wall, I can suggest the Nemo Hornet 3P. Lighter and roomier than the Big Agnes Copper Spur 2P (which my wife and I also have). Available from Amazon so you can use your $200 card. Another great tent is the TarpTent Rainbow 2P Double Wall. None however are UL.
That's not really true. They are more spacious than most 2p tents, but definitely not as spacious as a 3 person tent. The Nemo Hornet 3P is one of the smallest 3P tents I can think of, and it has a 223 x 172 cm floor, which tapers to 157 cm. The XMid 2p has a 234 x 132 cm floor. That's a pretty substantial difference in floor space. Volume is harder to quantify, but in a freestanding tent you also don't have someone with the low side of the fly in their face. For what it's worth, I have an XMid 2p and a 1p pro and really like them both. It's just not the same size as even the smallest 3p tents. Totally livable for 2, though.
I have the Nemo hornet 3p and it's an awesome tent for backpacking. It goes on sale multiple times a year. Look for it. I got mine for about 350. This has life time warranty. It's a full frame, double wall, (semi)free standing tent. It is also seam sealed and super light weight. I'm a big believer of buy once and cry once. Compare these features in other tents before you make your decision.
I have Nemo hornet, semi free standing but it's a full feature tent. I love it.
We loved our Nemo (pic 2) on our recent trip. We bought the three person for the two of us to give us room for non food supplies inside, and it was very helpful in a rain storm. It was long enough for extra long sleeping pads also.
Xmid solid by Durston is you use trekking poles. I also have a nemo hornet osmo. Freestanding super light tent. Loved it but eventually upgraded to the xmid for more room
The OSMO Nemo Hornet is great but def not cheap especially if you get the footprint that goes with it.
Yeah, I got a good deal last year on the Copper Spur 3P, and while I like it because of how light it is, it feels super thin and I worry how many years it's going to last. I really like my Nemo Aurora 4p, but that's a pretty big tent to bring on a kayak, and love my Nemo Hornet Osmo, but that's a 2p tent, and realistically it's a 1 person plus some gear, but amazing for backpacking, and lowish to the ground, so I rarely worry about wind. Have taken it beach camping at Hammock State park a couple of times without any issues besides chasing sand out lol.
