I am 6’4 you need a 2P I like my Nemo. You also need a tall sleeping pad or your feet will be hanging off and you need a tall sleeping bag.
Yes, it is extra weight but it’s the price we pay for the fun of it!
We have 4, was 5 but I turned one in to a gear reseller and got $40. It was a 30 year old 2p thru-hiker mountain hardware that would not die. We also had a North Face 3p that was awesome, it was barely holding together with patches and 10 layers of seam seal, finally destroyed in a hailstorm in Golden Gate state park.

1. huge Coleman for car camping.
2. 3p mountain hardware
3. 2p (roomy) Nemo
4. 2p Sea2Summit (small) ultralight.
Depends on what we are doing, we have everything for 3-1/2 seasons.
Nemo tents pack pretty small and are light. The new dragonfly seems like a good option. If it’s just you and another person a 2 person might be more than enough space.
Coleman actually makes a decent budget friendly tent that’s perfect for car camping. It’s my recommendation for those that are getting started with camping.
For mid range, REI makes great tents. I’m a big fan of their half dome.
When I decided to spend money on a good tent, I ran into similar paralysis. I narrowed it down to Big Agnes or Nemo and ended up going with the Nemo due to a thicker floor, since I’d be camping with kids and dogs. I’ve omen very happy with Nemo and have since purchased two more tents.
Tent: MSR or Nemo, sleeping bag: Nemo (the lightest warmest I’ve found) knife folding knife I’d use a Swiss army “Ranger” model, if its a folding knife sans that I’d use a fixed blade like a Pathfinder knife shop “scorpion or Kephart” the kephart is my favorite personally. It’s always good to have multiple tools for sure sometimes they fail. Additionally if you’re going to be in any remote areas take 2 ways to make fire whether that’s 2 lighters or a lighter and a ferocerium rod doesn’t matter. Ans water water water, and some way to filter said water. I’ve had situations even near or in towns where I needed water and had some but couldn’t purify it and a metal container of you can canteen or stainless non vacuum single wall water bottle if you have that and fire you’ll have purified water.
