Nordisk - Seiland 2 SP

Nordisk officially classifies the Oppland as a 3 season. They do have the 4 season Seiland which is very nice. Also a tunnel tent but single poled can deal with up to 80mph head on and 70mph side on. That said if only looking for 1 person it is still about 3.6 kg fully kitted out.

A good tunnel tent should still cope with side on winds pretty well. My Nordisk Seiland 2 for example is supposed to be safe up to 80 mph head on and 70 mph side on, yes it is less, but it's not that much of a difference and ideally I'll never be out in winds that fast anyway (plus you can double pole to make it even stronger). And Tunnel tents are the strongest ratio to weight of any poled tent. Scarps are good strength for their weight particularly with additional poles though they do more for snow loading than wind, but still help in wind. In regards to this style of hoop tent, at the end you'll see small poles in either centre or both ends, Terra Nova does centre, that prevents the tent flapping onto your head, the Alto and Scrap do end poles, that gives more space and makes it stronger. Pyramid tents can be strong in wind, Slinfin Cinder Cone is a very strong tent, but expensive for its design. The MLD Trailstar is very good in wind but no true doorway as such. Then you have all the Hillebergs.

I've got the Nordisk Seiland, got a post on my profile of a snow camp in Helvellyn. Nordisk have some sort of repair shop thing so my one came out with a manufacturing defect which they repaired at this place and so I got mine new for 240 less than normal, all because of a repaired 2mm hole in a vestibule. Very happy with mine. But all those other companies are great. Slingfin are inner pitch first, but use internal guidelines as well so are probably the most weight efficient of the group.
