We have the Oztrail fastframe 6p that our kids use. Has held up very well in all sorts of weather. Lots of tie down points, so you can really secure it. No leaks if at up properly. Iād buy extra pegs (and decent sized ones) to ensure you have enough. Drill in pegs with a cordless drill-driver are the bomb!
I have a 6 person pop up tent from Ozark that I set up easily by myself and its very spacious!
I've had a Ozark Trail 6 man tent from Walmart for several years. It packs up nice and small, and will comfortably fit two people with all their gear. I can set it up by myself in about 20 minutes. You'll want to throw a tarp over it for when it rains.
The Ozark trail 6 person was just fine for a full year of use. We had some good rain storms, wind, beach and mountain camping.. We upgraded after learning more about how me and my fiance camp together and Rei had a great sale on large tents. I got rid of it after a leak happened in our storage unit and it was super, super moldy. We now have the northface wawona and love it but the Ozark trail is a good, cheap starting point.
I am not a fan of big box stores . But.... we have found the best tent for rain is the Ozark trail 6 man tent We have had LLBean and other expensive tents and hands down Ozark Trail has preformed the best in a hard driving rain . We also have 1 tent that is a 4 man for storage For full disclosure , I have a Slumberjack " day break " 6 man tent it is great in the rain.. My niece has 2 kids and is the one that uses Ozark trail brand. No matter what brand we always " fly " a nylon tarp about 3 feet above the tents if we know the weather can turn.
I had a 6 person Ozark that withstood 60 mph straight line winds one year and a freaking tornado another. (We headed to town for the actual tornado. Got back to camp & there were tents down and lawn chairs in trees, but our chairs were under the picnic table where I had stashed them & our tent was fine, even dry inside.) Always use all the stakes, lol. Had great luck with that Ozark. I recently downsized to a 3 person Coleman Hooligan. I love it.
Honestly I donāt think youāll have much trouble. I bought a 6 person Ozark tent for me my son and partner when we went to Utah last year and hadnāt gone since I was 11 or 12 and set it up on my own because theyāre so different now lol!!!! Didnāt have to slide poles through fight anything etc. mine just clicked to the poles. So as long as you feel comfortable with the price and brand 2 person Ozark should be ok! Esp to start off. We had good blankets werenāt cold at all had 0 tent issues (:
I'd also recommend an ozark trail instant tent, They're the new coleman from decades past. The average mans tent, for whoever is just getting into the hobby and doesnt want to break the bank. Great for familys who may go camping a handful of times a year in mostly fair weather. They'll last some rough handling for minimum a few years to a decade, plenty of time to get use out of it and upgrade. Any from the instant tent line will be big, bulky, and heavy but quick and easy to set up even if its just one person going it. Ive personally set up a 10 person myself in less than 5 minutes. I've also used mine during souther arizona monsoon storms, high winds and sideways rain and I stayed nice and cozy with room to sit around to relax in unlike a dome tent.
