6 person at least. Room for sleeping setups, and some gear. You don’t want to be right up against the tent wall. Also look at the center standing height, for the tents you look at they will tell you. Ex: I have ozark trail 6 person instant up dark rest tent. For me alone, it’s great. I can sleep myself and wife if needed. I would still want bigger. Coleman instant cabin tent, 6 person, a bit more room than OT, and taller in center. I personally like OT more for the features, but just one example of size being different among brands for 6 person. But ya it’ll depend on your sleeping setups. If you are trying to do a single queen size mattress, 2 cots / pads, etc. When you aren’t worried about weight and size as much, you can be more comfortable. 4 person will get it done, 6 person probably sweet spot, anything more and you’d be just looking for more room. It can be good to have a lot of room when rainy / buggy / something keeping you in tent for some reason.
r/camping • What's the best tent for my partner and I? ->I have a variety of tents based in the situation I am camping in. Backpacking -REI half dome 2SL Car camping short trip - Ozark trail 6 person instant tent (used to have a core instant tent that was better quality. Started leaking on a trip after around 100 nights of use and did a quick replace at Walmart due to continued rain in the forecast. This is also the one I lend out to friends when needed.) Car camping longer trip - Coleman 8person skydome Car camping but walk in site of 1 mile or less Core 6 person dome tent with vestibule.
r/camping • help! purchasing first tent this weekend - snow peak alpha breeze or eureka space camp 6? ->I've had fantastic luck with Ozark Trail tents. I started with a 3 person dome style, moved into a 4 person cabin style pop-up and then got a 6 person cabin style pop-up. The only reason I replaced the dome style was because I wanted to be able to stand up in the tent. The only reason I replaced the 4 person is because I wanted it to be bigger to accomodate my cot and bedding. They have never failed me, until I've tried to get them back in their dang bags - but that's when everyone becomes a failure, right?
r/camping • Ozark Trail Tent Experience? ->I have an ozark trail dark room cabin tent. I got it on sale for like 70 bucks a few years ago (it’s a six person tent) and I’ve been super happy with it. Only been out in weather once and it did great. It was a pretty bad wind and rain storm. We ended up sleeping in the car that night (due to lightning concerns) but the tent inside was dry the next morning when we checked. I did spray it down with waterproofing stuff but that was like ten bucks worth of spray. In mild weather it’s been fine. I can put it up myself. It is huge and heavy but we car camp so I don’t mind that. We are very casual car campers who like a lot of comfort. We often stay in screen shelters at state parks rather than bring the tent. I’m not saying Ozark Trail is high quality but I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on our first tent and I’ve been super pleased with ours.
r/camping • Ozark Trail Tent Experience? ->I have a couple ozark trail 1 and 3 person tents that are fine, but a 6 person one that is very difficult to set up. They are not great tents, but they are cheap and mostly usable. And because they are cheap, if you use it a few times and throw it out you don’t feel bad about the cost.
r/camping • Ozark Trail Tent Experience? ->I've got probably the exact same tent, came with sleeping bags for 120, its been great, fairly easy to set up if you dont have to constantly move it, and the only pieces you can seem to lose are the pegs and the piece that holds the rain fly up over the door, pretty much every time we've set it up has been in the dark and it wasn't too hard to figure out, we've had it for 3 years and it still looks brand new
r/BuyItForLife • Is there such thing as a “good” tent? ->I bought an $80 Ozark Trail six person tent from Walmart because my kids wanted to camp in the backyard over the summer. It got set up and taken down probably 25 times and left out for a week or two because I got tired of setting it up and taking it down. For $80, if I had to turn around tomorrow and throw it away, I'd have no issues because (in my opinion) I got my moneys worth out of it. It's done the job in terms of being both waterproof and bug-proof. All of that to say - it's holding up just fine and looks like we'll get plenty more use out of it!
r/BuyItForLife • Is there such thing as a “good” tent? ->Go to Walmart. You obviously won’t be doing anything crazy. Get an ozark 6 person tent. Get some ozark 30 degree bags. Get the klymt static V pads they have there, or just even a basic air mattress. That will be low cost and much better than what is on amazon. Bring your own pillow. Camp pillows suck.
r/CampingGear • Should we buy for first time camping? ->I'm happy to see the Coleman Skydome on here. We just got an 8-person for our family of 4 after using a 6-person Ozark for three last 16 years.
r/CampingGear • I analyzed Reddit data for the 25 most recommended camping tents (in the past year) ->I have an Ozark trails 2 person tent that I haven't had any issues with, that I've used for week long camping trips in all 4 seasons. However I've found their larger tents 6-8 person tents to be unreliable once the wind picks up or it rains too hard.
