r/OutdoorAusNew to camping, need help picking up a 6P tent
6 months ago

I have the Hightower Mansion 8P and it's great, very easy to set up and doesn't take up a lot of room in the car (half the length of the coleman instant). Assuming it's something you'll use a few times I'd recommend the 8P over the 6P as it gives you 2 separate rooms which might be better for when the kids are a bit older.

Agree with needing larger than a 6p for that many people plus gear. Ozark Trail 8 person cabin instant tent is good quality and price. I can put it up on my own and have fit 3 adults plus two dogs and gear pretty comfortably. You can make it into two rooms, has built in LED lights, good ventilation and can easily stand up and walk around in it.

Ozark Trail 8 person cabin tent . It's perfect . Not expensive . Holds up well unexpected downpour. My niece loves hers . I have a SlumberJack 6 man . It has amazing ventilation and a full fly for chilly nights

r/campingColeman 4 man "instant setup" tent. Any good?

I have the generic Walmart Ozark trail 8 man version of this tent. It comes with a fly and a built in light. I work wildland fires and have used this tent on 4 - 14 day assignments. It has seen intense rain and wind. It was a great investment!

I'm lying in an 8p oztrail tent right now. Wife and kids (10 & 7yo) have gone for a wander/scoot after a great night's sleep. Mountain design 50mm "self-inflating" mats and regular sleeping bags. Had to throw an Aldi centre aisle special tarp over the top for waterproofing, but we're still dry after 60mm of rain on sunday night. 3x3m gazebo, and 6x4m ground sheet round out the basics. Can squeeeeeeeze everything onto/into the 4x4 but much easier with 6x4 low cage trailer.

I have an Ozark trails 2 person tent that I haven't had any issues with, that I've used for week long camping trips in all 4 seasons. However I've found their larger tents 6-8 person tents to be unreliable once the wind picks up or it rains too hard.

Their fabric is damn thin. Do not use this tent in rain. You will regret it, I promise.

It should be just fine for your use case if weight isn’t a factor. I own expensive tents but I also have a cheap $30 Ozark trail tent I bought in 2019, only use it for local 1 nighters and it’s still fine. Only thing I’d recommend is hit all the seams with water proofing spray, especially around the bottom where the fabric is stitched to the tarp floor. I just buy the 3M stuff that is recommended for outdoors, think it has a tent picture on the spray can.

Ozark trail makes some solid stuff for the price. I say go for it.
