Currently in my RV5 Plus for the last night of a 6 night trip, once again it held up well during storms and the constant winds in this place (Yorke Peninsula)

RV5 plus here, well worth the cost and having to get a 30kg 2m long bag on your roof. There are plenty of spares available of something does break, pretty sure you can buy everything except the actual canvas. I looked into air and instant up tents and they just don't compare, and I love being able to steal off the awning from bugs using the wall kits.

Maybe similar setup times, but the options on the full awning of the Oztent are very handy.

They're not much different when packed.

Yeah I've got the RV5 Plus and it generally holds up well. The only issue I had was when I left camp to go fishing for the day, and the wind turned and really picked up,. It destroyed the awning zip, but they ended up replacing the whole thing under warranty

Similar here! It looks like we’re stocking an outdoors store haha - we’ve got the rv5 (the one with the skyzone - such a great way to get more airflow!), 2 small hiking tents one better than the other) and swags - pick and choose based on the trip!

I gave in to the “just a couple of hundred more for the plus version with the skylight” thing and have no regrets. It’s heavy but I only have to lift one end at a time to get it on the roof. I’m not sure I would have loved any other tent.

Oztent (rv5 is the one I’ve used). Good strong poles, lots of points to peg out from. If you set up the door facing away from the direction the wind is coming it copes best, but I’ve used it near the beach in super strong squally winds and it held up well.

Oztent RV-5. I ended up destroying one after many many years of lots of travel, and liked it that much I replaced it with another.

I’ve got a pronto 5 and an oztent RV5. Both very similar setup times but the pronto has more usable space. Had the pronto for 2-3 years I think no issues yet.

I generally take the pronto as it takes less room, and has more usable space. The RV5 is 2 meters long packed up so needs to go on the roof racks. I think in the rain I prefer the oztent though as the awning is much better. Pronto awning is woefully inadequate. The reason I have 2 is I have 2 4wd’s. I’ve got a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Suzuki sierra soft top. The soft top can’t carry anything on the roof so I decided to get another tent that I can carry inside. But even when I take the Toyota I tend to take the pronto.

I have a oztent rv5, but you can get smaller ones...... so easy to set up n when travelling across from east coast to west coast, I didn't bother pegging it down for overnight stays. Plenty of ventilation n just good quality, mine is 17 years old n still in great condition

We now have an oz tent rv5 with goodies but honestly, most cheaper tents will see you through if you arent camping that much. If you end up camping more, keep an eye on marketplace for a 2nd hand RV3 or 4. Plenty of them on there We have swags, small cheap tent and the Oz tent depending on the trip

Family of 4 here. We had an RV3 and now have an Oztent RV5 with fly and all the awning walls. It fits us and our horse sized dog comfortably and in its simplest form really doesn't take long to set up. Pros: - quick set up. Seriously, it's fold out one side, then the other, then pull up and screw pegs in for the very basic no awning out setup - its high, I'm tall...I fit - plenty of different ways to set it up for 1 night or multiple nights if you have the bits. We just set up the awning for overnighters but for multiple days, we will take the walls if weather turns to shit. - good air flow through it Cons: - expensive. Highly recommend scouring marketplace for a good condition second hand one. Picked up the current rv5 from an old couple who used it once and went back to their van. - takes up a lot of length when packed up. The bag must go on the roof racks or tray. The tent does not fold in half so it's packed up state is the width of the tent. - without the fly, condensation can be a bitch. Get the fly. We always planned to get a camper but we are pretty well sorted with food, cooking and clothing boxes now that set up and pack up is pretty easy plus it's a lot of money to have a sitting around doing fuck all when you aren't using your camper. That may change at some point but tent camping has worked for us for decades and plenty of trips
