I use the REI basecamp 6. With two full-sized cots it feels luxurious - each person has their own "side" and there is plenty of space in the middle to move around. Three cots would definitely fit, but it would no longer feel so spacious.
I am also in a family of 4 and have always appreciated a larger tent. This was especially the case when the kids were young. You might even want to consider 8-person tent. Plenty of room for the family and gear. Skydome is good but, IMO, not as durable as I would like. The Wawona is good. I have an REI Base Camp 6. It is easy to set up between two people very wind resistant.
Love our Rei base camp 6. Currently using it for a week at scout camp where it’s been heavy rain for at least an hour every day/night. I’m dry and bug free and happy. We’ve had it for 10 years. I’ve seam sealed maybe twice in that time. Originally purchased to fit two packnplay’s and a queen air mattress when our twins were babies. The twins are taking up more space but the 4 of of are still comfy and have plenty of room.
Yes! I have the hubba and the hubba hubba. Both on their second fly (just due to wear not failure) and I did have them send me a couple poles noting taking it in the snow wasn't the best idea. Still worked though! I forgot we also have the REI 6 person - the basecamp. It's been great for car camping.
For me, it was between REI Base Camp 6 and Eureka Space Camp. The Eureka had more room but the REI was more bomb proof. And I really liked the ability to close up the REI tent for cooler weather. We are not the type of family to let bad weather spoil our trip. I'm not familiar with snow peak tents but I would guess this comes down to personal preference depending on your intended use. Just buy them both, open them up in an dry and clean space, check out their features, then return the one that better suits you. Edit: Upon further review, the alpha breeze and Eureka Space Camp are wildly different sizes, making comparisons difficult.
If you want to camp where there is wind, I recommend the Base Camp 6… but if you want more of a glamping or family friendly tent the westward 6 is wonderful… both with excellent vestibules. I’d go with the REI just because of the price point.
I get that… you had mentioned tha TNF is better and I was wondering what you mean? Tents in general are use specific… there are really no tents that have it all and do it all. You kind of have to decide what matters to you? Price, size, strength, weight, features, etc… Try and list the things you want it to do and then check to see which has that… Every person is different and it is good to run through what you want. Of all of the tents I’ve used that REI sells, the one I go to the most is the BaseCamp 6. with that said… my all time favorite is a tent they no longer make… Kingdome 8 it was a gigantic tent, it was heavy and almost gaudy, but man was it nice. My brother and I did a trans-New Hampshire trip in a 6 wheel military vehicle… it was just the two of us, but we each had our own room. We did it right… we had cots, oriental rugs, tables and chairs inside that tent. We practically could have parked the vehicle in the tent. Glamping or Maximalist for sure.
