I love our REI Hobitat 6 for car camping. Its too big for backpacking though. That thing is great for a family because it's tall enough for me to easily stand up inside. I am about 6'2" tall, so height is always something I consider when camping. FYI: My model is over 10 years old now, so I am not sure what their current tents are like but they usually have good quality products.

r/CampingGearTent suggestions? Large one person or small two person? Weight is a factor.

I am starting to just use a tarp and some bug netting. I have a 12x12 tarp that has much more room than a 2-3 person tent and is much lighter to carry. But I also have a hobitat 6 rei tent which is something I can stand up in and have my gear, wife and toddler, and 2 dogs comfortably set up inside.

I was going to recommend the REI Kingdom 6 with attached Garage, as a great car camping tent setup. It packs into a back-pack like bag which is a perfect size for sitting on the floor behind a front seat. BUT - they no longer offer it. It's a shame as it's a fantastic car-camping tent that we've been using for years. r/BuyItForLifeIs there such thing as a “good” tent?

Came here to say MSR. I've had the Mutha Hubba for about 15 years, so also can't speak to current quality but I haven't heard of any issues. I also have a larger 6 person REI brand tent that seems to be very high quality at a better price point. They use the same style aluminum poles as MSR. The main thing that made me choose MSR originally was that you can't even purchase their poles. If you somehow managed to break one, they will always replace them for free. Aftermarket parts don't exist because they'll just send you one.

I used the REI Coop one recently. Super easy to set up, but is kind of bulky and traps air whenever I tried packing up. Withheld 45+ mph winds, and with the rain cover on it was pretty warm, outside temp was probably only ever 30F or 40F. Definitely spacious enough to fit all my gear and probably another person. Hit me up if tou have any other questions. Honestly IMO it was just too big to fit into my backpack.
