If you want a budget tent, the REI trailmade 2 should work fine. I used the previous version called the passage too. I added extra pullouts on the non-vestibule sides to keep them off the inner tent.

https://www.rei.com/product/243610/rei-co-op-trailmade-1-tent-with-footprint You can try this one. It looks like it replaced the Passage” series of tents which is unfortunate, those were fantastic. I use the Passage 2 for my backpacking. However, REI makes great stuff and if all you need is a one person, this should do and hold up well. Relatively light too.
Are you going to have to hike out any significant distance or will you be able to unload and set up your tent close to the vehicle? If you don’t gotta go far, one of those easy peasy Coleman 4 person tents is awesome and also fun for backyard camping with nieces and nephews and my kiddo when she was little. We also take it to the beach if we’re gonna be near one for more than a couple of hours. My Coleman (or something similar) also make it stupid easy to put in an inflatable mattress. As far as your question about insulating the blow up mattress, this is what I do when I go “fancy camping” with the husband who is a Tall with a garbage back (and feet): Pop up the tent. Set it up. Plop in the mattress and inflate (we usually have some kind of outlet or power bank and use the electric blow up kind). Then, if it’s gonna get anywhere near chilly, I lay down my electric blanket over on top. Then I put my regular sheets/comforter over that. Feels super luxurious. Rawdogging the electric blanket gets sweaty and uncomfortable so yeah, I just put it on before the fitted sheet. My year old nephew can set it up easily, not even joking. We got it at a garage sale for $30. https://preview.redd.it/egifumlj5p5h1.png?width=2880&format=png&auto=webp&s=60d1e5d43d9cbe41ebc02cff0c78ef39fc9eb636 If it’s just me and I want or need to carry it with me any kind of significant distance, I like my regular boring REI Passage two person. You cannot stand up in it and it’s very utilitarian but also crazy easy setup. I use it probably a total of two weeks a year for the past idk 5 years and it’s still in great shape.
Been rocking an REI Passage 2 for solo backpacking for like 4 years, but yeah, we’ve officially outgrown it. My partner started coming along, plus we just adopted a 60lb dog who somehow takes up more space than both of us combined. Squeezing all three of us into a tiny 2P tent is lowkey a nightmare at this point. We’re shifting to casual car camping this season, so weight isn’t really a thing anymore. I just want some actual headroom to, like, stand up, change clothes, and not feel completely suffocated. I’ve been looking into 4P options. The REI Skyward 4 and Marmot Limestone 4P both look super nice, but they’re pretty pricey for something we’re only gonna use maybe 5-6 times a year. I know everyone’s gonna mention Coleman for casual setups, but a friend of mine actually picked up a tent from this brand called Garvee because it was super cheap. It seemed decent enough when they pitched it, but honestly, I have no idea how it actually holds up long-term. Anyways, what’s the play here? Curious what you guys actually ended up sticking with after a few seasons. Thanks!
My pick for a single adult would be the coleman 4 person sundome. It's bomb proof, one person setup is not bad and it's affordable. I'm on year 4 of mine. I do also have an REI passage 2 person tent. I love it too, it's so fast to set up and take down but I got to an age where I value the extra space the sundome provides. I can put my (low) camping cot in without challenge and it's still spacious. In my REI passage - I still use my cot, but I get an entire 5 inches of floor space so it's not ideal. But I do it sometimes.
My personal tent is a Big Agnes Copper spur 3 person that I got on sales at the end of the season. I use that for Scout events and backpacking. Our family tent is a Coleman 6 person we got at Costco. Sometimes I bring my old 2 person REI dome tent and stick one of the kids in that when we do family camping. The Cots fit in the Coleman. It's hard to set up the larger tent by myself, with a little help it is pretty easy especially not that my son is taller than me.
