r/backpackingWhat is the go to best bang for buck 2/3 person tent these days?

River Country Products' "Trekking-Pole Tent 4-Person"? Costs $100. It's 64 square feet -- large for two, ok for three people; not good for four. I'd assume it needs seam sealing -- no matter what company specifies. It's a proven, weatherproof design and is ok manufacturing & materials. Claimed weight 4 pound, 10 oz.

r/Ultralight4 Season tent dilema

I can asnwer this for a 3 seasons tent perspective, but not the 4 seasons as I have not looked into that. But I have 3 kids the same, I have done my research for years on weight ultralight versus the price, and expensive DCF etc. all of it... But if cost is a factor.... like it is for us... GO with the Trekker Tent 4, buy River Country Products and save your money! Share the weight carry with that many kids and people... I just don't have the $800+ to justify for the ultra lightweight DCF material tents out there when we go 1-2 times per year with the kids, the other one below the Tarptent Hogback with no floor to me is just not worth the almost $400 pricef or waht it is and what you get.... You won't find a better option under $90 bucks I don't think. And I personally don't think the extra 2 lbs among 4 people is worth it to justify how much the DCF ones cost. Ulness of course you are through hiking or going like every other weekend and just have the money to spend then go for it. If that was the case I would get the HyperliteMountain Gear version of this tent with the DCF. But I am just not going to spend that much for us. Here is the RCP Trekker tent 4! **Only $79.95!!!: There is nothing anyone has suggested that has a weight to cost ratio for 4 people that tops this! And others they have are just over hangs no bug protection full enclosures for $400... not worth it.** |Packed Weight|4 lbs 10 oz/ 2.1 kg| |:-|:-| || |Weight w/o stakes and bag|4 lbs 4 oz/ 1.93 kg| If you already have Trekking poles like me and us, then just the tent is $79.95!!! [https://www.rivercountryproducts.com/product/trekker-tent-4/?gad\_source=1&gad\_campaignid=20506937456#reviews](https://www.rivercountryproducts.com/product/trekker-tent-4/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20506937456#reviews) Some people in this thread suggest the THE TARPTENT Hogback (sil-poly) is $550 before Tax and is 4 LBS! NOT WORTH IT WHEN YOU CAN GET THE ONE ABOVE FOR $80! That is almost $500 more for what? I would never buy that tent for that cost and weight. If you are already spending that much go with a DCF tent 2lbs less. THE TARPTENT Hogback (sil-poly) is a terrible weight for the price. SO what I decided was we are spending the only $80 for 4.5 lbs tent and dividing the weight as we are backpacking between us. Until the day I maybe able to justify shaving off 2lbs total for an additional $800... which that day will probably not come. Just spend the $80 and divide the load of all your gear between you all. So just go trekking pole tent to keep the weight down, and if you have 4 people anyways devide the carrying weight up between everyone. Then just save your money like me and go with the best, most lightweight 4 person tent you can find for the price and I'm talking under $100!!! Of course you can save a couple of pounds by paying $800+ if you have it, But for me we only go with the kids a few times a year and can divide the carrying weight in the 4 pound range and go for this $80 tent! Amazing deal for the price and weight below 5. When we go with just 2 of us, we take our 2 personal ultralight tent instead. And this 4 person tent has a vestibule too... of course If you have the $850+ to spend on DCF ultra lightweight material, then you can go with the really expensive: [https://hyperlitemountaingear.com/products/ultamid-4-ultralight-pyramid-tent?variant=7376534798381&\_gsid=D5aWsJaczE2y&utm\_source=chatgpt.com](https://hyperlitemountaingear.com/products/ultamid-4-ultralight-pyramid-tent?variant=7376534798381&_gsid=D5aWsJaczE2y&utm_source=chatgpt.com) or Zpacks tents 3P.
