r/VanLifeNeed your opinion on roof top tent - anyone using?

I have a Roof Nest Sparrow Adventure that I use on a truck. Love it, but probably wouldn't go with Roof Nest in the future or at the very least would get an aluminum hard top rather than the fiberglass hard top style I have. We sleep great in it and love how fast it is to set up and take down compared to the fold out style of tent. My experience with roof nest though leaves me feeling that it is overpriced for the build quality. I've had it for about 3 years and one strut is failing and I have at least 2 cracks in the fiberglass shell which has led to moisture and mold. I'm planning to bed line it in the next couple weeks and hope that helps with the durability. I've been thinking that if I still have the roof top tent once I start a van build I will consider putting it on the van as extra sleeping space. Using a tent will counter some of the strengths that a van brings vs some other car camping set ups. 1. You'll be more susceptible to extreme temperatures, while cold nights can be overcome with a diesel heater and good gear, I don't know how you would deal with hot/humid nights. 2. Rain and condensation are a pain, sure you can sleep comfortably through it, but you need to dry the tent out to put it away which can be very challenging if there aren't any sunny days above freezing in the forecast. 3. Less potential for stealth camping 4. You have to go outside to set up / tear down regardless of the weather, or of a sketchy situation. You can't roll out of bed, jump in the driver seat and take off if your camping spot suddenly doesn't seem so safe. Still I think it's a good option worth considering.

My roofnest is peeling as well. Which bed liner spray did you use?
