Separating such a young family does not make life easier. What happens if your wife or you want to head out of the tent to go to the toilet, for example? How do you coordinate that with the littlest ones asleep? And it's not as if noise doesn't travel between tents. For car camping there are a ton of options. For backpacking, a good big mid is what we've found works best. It also provides more space for hanging out in and play in case of inclement weather. Current winner for us is the Slingfin Cinder Cone, which, while listed as a four-person, can actually accommodate five full-sized pads, even with the mesh inner. But there are certainly other options.

Feel free to ask me about any of the pyramids you look into, I’ve done quite a bit of research on them. Have the seek outside Cimarron with a stove jack for winter, and the Slingfin Cinder Cone for summer. I took a Hyperlite Ultamid 2 down the Mississippi. So I’ve set them up on rock, sand, gravel, mud, whatever.

Came here to also recommend slingfin. Between my partner and my self we have a windsaber and a cinder cone.  Both are sweet tents.

As a guy who owns two Tarptents and a Slingfin this is the right answer. Only reason I don’t own one is because the others are still great and it would be wasteful to buy another tent

The xmid 2 is pretty solid if you use all guy points. If you want something sturdier that you can take into the mountains, look at sling fin.

I love my Slingfin tent. Dual doors, they make a lightweight option. Company started from the MSI tent designer who wanted to change the expedition designs and MSI said no.

I was just going to recommend Eureka! Tents but they no longer exist. My family had those when I was growing up (90% BWCA trips) and I had one recently that went through the wringer and never caused any trouble. Big Agnes and Northface have been very good for me over the years. I've moved on to Slingfin but they don't make a four person other than a dedicated hot tent.
