I kept buying tents every few years in WA when the materials started to fail and I was on a similar search as you I arrived at a more expensive product that will outlive you, be more comfortable in both got and cold weather, and has room to stand up in (I'm 6ft) The Springbar classic Jack 100 or 140, size dependent.  https://springbar.com/products/springbar-tent-classic-jack-100?variant=40823797186637 The extra cost of one purchase ends up being negated by another purchase of a nylon/poly tent in a few years They're easy to set up despite being heavy I've had mine 10 years and performs like new They also have a "made in USA" line at extra cost, if that's important to you.

For this money get a spring bar classic Jack 100. Incredible 10x10 canvas tent. Kodiaks are springbar copies and less expensive. The classic Jack has incredible ventilation.

I went with the Classic Jack 100. It was sold through Amazon actually, as I like going through them as it's easier for shipping/returns and such if needed. I wasn't too worried about Made in USA so it is one of the import options. It's very similar to the Vagabond I think.

Springbar Classic Jack or Skyliner. Yes, they are big/heavy but they will last a lifetime and they are burly enough to stand up to high wind and winter weather. One person can set one up in ~10mins, and with two people maybe 5min setup. Hardest part is hammering in the stakes if you have tough/dry ground. Also, its hard to beat cooking and chilling with the wood stove especially during the short-day season.

We started camping in a 2 person tent with a dog. It was fine. Light weight and we were hikeing 50 miles in 3 days. A few others that got bigger. Had a kid and my parents decided they didn’t want to tent anymore so we inherited their “Taj Mahal” tent. $100 three room tent from Walmart that was about 400 sqft. That was fun. It really shined when we had a kid and we could setup the portable crib inside the tent. Gold. Then I got a spring bar 10x10 and me and the wife have a nice queen mattress and the kid has a cot and the dog has his bed. Still in the springbar but the kid sleeps in an old 3-4 person tent with stuffies and friends. (It’s mostly a place to hang out for them). She still come home and cuddles. I have 5 tents. They all serve their purpose. It all just depends on what you are going to do. I’ll never get rid of my 1.5 person light weight tent. I’ll also never get rid of my wall tent. I’ll probably buy a bigger actual wall tent that will be more like a yurt than a tent. It’s an evolving process. If you are in the car go big. If you are hiking go light.

Look into Springbar or Kodiak tents. They aren't cheap, but your grandchildren won't need to replace it when they're taking their kids camping. You may be able to find a used one close to your price range. I got my 6 person Springbar for $400.

Go spring bar canvas like a Kodiak and if you take care of it your kids will be using it with your grand kids. Wind proof, rain proof, super easy to set up. Cons, expensive, and heavy.
