I would definitely go with the aeon. I am a decent amount taller than you (1m87cm) and I barely fit but I do fit. The width wont be a problem, I use a wide pad and have plenty of room width wise. Length wise can be a tad tricky but I am taller than you, you do get used to it as well. It is a phenomenal tent, the pack weight difference vs a non dcf is really sweet. The only annoyance is the struts in your pack and rolling it up every morning.

Just used aeon li for the first night last night. I changed in it, but really only bc i was in the very cornwr of the state campground. Its pretty translucent. Im 6’0, and space is pretty good, although i use a rab ultrasphere 4.5, so our dimensions are diff. I have stuff stashed at my head and feet, but leave bags outside

Ive owned a mid 1 and now the aeon li. After two pitches it seems pretty straightforward. Easy to see where you go wrong/ adjust in sequential pitches. While its not AS easy as a xmid, its pretty easy

I tested both. Wound up selling the Aeon Li and Keeping the Xmid Pro 1. The main reasons were more interior space and better ventilation. With a single door on the Aeon it got pretty toasty inside, while the two doors allowed a breeze on the Xmid. Not really an issue unless you are using it during the day, I suppose. But sometimes I reach camp early and want to take a nap away from the mosquitoes. The Xmid does have a bigger footprint, which can be a mild headache when pitching. But it definitely has more room inside to sit up, fuss with gear, etc. I'm 6'1", so that extra room was appreciated. Also, I found the setup was quicker because there were no corner strut systems to fuss with. That said, both tents were great and light.

Many people have issues with the struts - I never understood why. Guess they really prefer to pack the tent into their packs horizontally, and the struts have a minimum lengths. The biggest 'problem' is that the stuff sack that comes with the tent is rather tight fitting. That's what takes the longest.

You're not supposed to stuff/fold DCF though, they suggest rolling. (Not sure if it actually makes a difference unless you fold the same crease again and again).

I second this. It does well in wind, the design can be a bit drafty though.

I had it collapse on me this year after rain had soaked the ground to the point where the main peg got lose. But that is not the failure of the tent. It stood firm on a later night when I weighted down all the stakes with rocks.

I've owned both. The Durston is slightly faster to pitch but both are very easy. Both are excellent in harsh weather. The aeon has more options for controlling ventilation and breathes somewhat better but both a pretty good. The aeon has a smaller total footprint and can be pitched without the vestibule to squeeze into terrible spots if you really need to. I would get the Durston if you prioritize livability and ease but get the aeon of you prioritize footprint and ventilation. You will be very happy with your decision regardless!

I've got a double rainbow li and purchased the ceiling liner... not a fan of it. I put it up right after receiving to check it out and have never taken it on a trip with the tent. Honestly, my other tents are the Aeon Li, and the X-Mid Pro and going from the Aeon to the Double Rainbow, I don't struggle to avoid touching the walls like I do the Aeon. Instead, I have the attic addon for the double rainbow li.

I have the first gen Aeon Li and find it really easy to pitch with my past experience being only free-standing tents. I'm also 6'1" and find the height acceptable but I think I'm at the upper end of height when it comes to length with my 2.5" pad. I wouldn't want my bag any closer to the tent walls. My only real complaint is also the packability but it's workable for me. I also have a hard time getting it back in its sack. No experience with the Xmid, but I think you'll do well with the Aeon at 5'9" if the packability isn't a concern.

Definitely much easier than you’re thinking - if the ground is stake friendly it’s super easy and fast. Easier and faster than freestanding. And unlike most standard American freestanding tents they generally pitch “fly-first” which is *really* nice when putting it up in the rain. Your knees will definitely also thank you for the poles! I do find they help on uphills keeping me in rhythm, but the downhill is where they are absolutely clutch. Still both a bit above your $ setting (mid 200s), but the Gossamer Gear The One and Durston X-Mid are both great shelter options. Might find a used one at your price point.

Should note I *do* have (and love) both the Durston XMid 2p and XDome 2x and an AeonLI that’s a similar geometry to the Lamshan. Aeon is great, but I definitely notice the tighter space, and it’s certainly a much bigger condensation management task in that tent. I do also love that the XMid and XDome both have the lightweight fly-only pitch options for low bug-pressure trips.
