I just bought an "SUV tent" for my model y. It connects to the back of the tent so that you can open the hatch and either sleep in the car or the tent, while utilizing the cars climate control system. There are some attachment points you have to take off first but the tent can be sealed up and you can drive away leaving your tent at your campsite should you want. It's pretty slick and I am excited to make camping a little more enjoyable for my wife who mostly just puts up with it for my sake.
The Tentsla tent is great. It’s fairly quick to setup once you know what you’re doing and if you look after it, I see it lasting. Quite easy to detach from the car too, so you can drive away and leave the tent in place. It’s essentially a normal tent that also so happens to be made to fit the Tesla Model Y. However, their post purchase support is not great. They don’t reply to emails, so if you did ever have an issue I’m not sure it would be resolved. My brother in law has the MKCAMP tent (last time I checked they were sold out) and he loves it. Similar design to the tentsla tent. I’ve seen lots of other tent designs too but in terms of usable space and easy of setup I think the design of the Tentsla or MKCAMP tents are my favourite. Hope that helps and you manage to find something that works for your needs 👍
We use the Tentsla. Great tent, nonexistent customer service (in my experience, yours may differ) If you’re hoping for the ac to reach the tent, I think this is unlikely or would at least have minimal effect on temps. But the great thing is, that you can easily hop in the back of the Y to escape the heat or cold! We slept in the Y even with the tent (just used it for extra living area) but now we’ll be taking our dog this year and he’ll be in the tent, we’re looking at options to keep him warm (and cool if we make it mainland Europe in the summer months). My brother in law has an MKCAMP tent and loves it. There’s quite a few other tents that work with the model Y, I think most generic suv tents do. I love the Tentsla though because it’s specifically made to fit the Y so it’s a really nice snug fit.
It’s been a while since we’ve used ours and it won’t be getting used until the weather warms up here so I can’t confirm the height unfortunately. I’m 5’ 7” and could comfortably stand in it with enough space above my head but I’m not sure if it’s 180cm inside or higher. Yeah the MKCamp sees to be always out of stock now. The whole Tesla tent thing is missing a reliable supplier imo. As Michael said you could look at getting a standalone tent instead, that could still work out for you and you’ll have a lot more choice.
You’re welcome. I’m sure it’s taller than 180cm inside. I see the dimensions on their website now and it looks like the 180cm is the height of the car port bit. The actual tent interior is taller than that I believe. This is where if they had good customer service you could confidently buy it and return it if too small but I’ve not had much luck with their customer service. Which is a shame since it’s a brilliant tent.
