"my big gripe is space for your kit. ... the tent isn't quite long enough for me to stretch out. ... add a second person and there just isn't space for your kit. ... What I've done in the past is triple wrapped my hiking bags in bin liners and used a cargo net and some spare pegs to peg them down outside, but it's hardly ideal and I wouldn't wanna do it in torrential weather."

"Would not recommend this tent for severe wind. It will stay standing, but it flaps around like crazy and caves in on itself ... This tent "holds up" to severe winds but it will cave in on itself and flap about like mad ... But I've had maybe 3 occasions (2 at the same location different times) where the tent has been absolutely battered in high winds which came from hard to anticipate directions"

"The thing about the Banshee is that it doesn't have an inner mesh door, so you can't watch the view outside while keeping bugs out. ... It was a problem for me in midge-land"

The old faithful Vango Banshee 200 is a good shout. Little heavy, but a solid 1 person + gear tent.

Are you looking to use as a two person tent? If not I would just go for the 200, the bigger a tent the more limited you are when trying to find a pitch on poor ground. I used a 300 when myself and a friend did WHW it was snug with 2 people and two packs but not bad with the door on both sides. The pole on mine got permanently deformed during a storm in wales but i replaced the section and the tent lives on.

I'd second this and just go for the 200. It's a great tent.

I believe that the Vango Banshee 200 is still one of the best 'bang for british buck' tents for first time wild camping. £144 currently (With a members card that costs a fiver for a year at GO) but regularly seen on discount sub £100. [VANGO Banshee 200 Tent | GO Outdoors ](https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/16140575/vango-banshee-200-tent-16140575) It's outer pitch first, low profile & large enough for comfortable camping for 1 person plus gear inside the tent. Weight: 2.4kg / Pack Size: 47 x 18cm / HH:3000mm I've bought and tried many fancy tents over the years and still find myself going back to this now and again because it is a design that works so well. I've had it in storms (albeit UK storms) and it's held solid through them. It is similar to the OEX Phoxx II (GO's own version of the Banshee 200) but has little improvements on it that make it a superior tent.

The big problem with cheaper tents at the budget friendly end of the price spectrum is that the marketing term "2 person tent" becomes more and more meaningless. My old Vango Banshee 200 Pro was most definitely not a 2 person tent as advertized and more a 1 person plus a medium sized dog tent. The Terra Nova Helm 2 tent is definitely a 2 person tent so long as both of you are not broad shouldered giants. FYI my partner (4'11") and myself (6'2") both fit inside our Helm 2 plus gear without it ever feeling too snug. It's an excellent tent for the money and my only grumble with it is that it's a bit on the heavy side. If I'm camping and hiking alone I'll usually use my Luxe Hexpeak instead and shave about 1KG off my pack weight.

Can’t fault a Banshee 200 and I’m sure they’re DoE recommended kit. You can buy the same style of tent in the OEX Phoxx but these will not last you compared to a banshee

Vango Banshees are solid, small, reasonably priced tents. Pitch outer & inner together. They are small. Not one to get if you value head room.

I really like my Vango banshee. It's very easy to put up. Doesn't pack down that small though.
