I got the zpacks trio for my AT trek in '22. my wife joined me for portions of the hike, and it worked out well for us. the extra weight was not too much a burden when I was alone, lots of room when she joined me. easy set up with trekking poles, only downside was poles in the middle of the doors.

I bought the Zpacks Offset trio, the floor is quite long and the two small poles pull out the fabric from your face and feet. It works for most of my trips and it can comfortably accommodate two people (as these 2p UL tent's definitely cannot). I wouldn't recommend it for very humid climates, but that basically go for any single wall DCF tent.

The X-Mid (non-Pro) has the advantage of being a double-wall tent, so even if you brush against the walls, you won’t get wet. However, when it comes to height support, I find that Durston tends to overestimate. I'm 198 cm tall, and only X-Mid Pro 2+ is usable for solo use. I definitely wouldn’t go for the one-person X-Mid 1 if you're around 193 cm or taller. As for solo tents, the now-discontinued Zpacks Offset Solo was the only one that really works for me. A friend of mine, who’s 195 cm, uses the Tarptent Dipole 1 and says he can sleep comfortably in it, but considering the weight, I’d personally lean toward the Zpacks Offset Duo, X-Mid Pro 2+, or even the standard X-Mid 2 for solo use. If you want a tent for two people that can fit a tall person, get Zpacks Offset Trio.

The cool thing about Zpacks making tents in-house and as orders come in is that they could create a bunch of different designs, put them out in the wild, and see what sticks - with minimal risk/loss. I like this tent more than the Offset Solo (Trio is awesome as a roomy UL tent) but its overkill for me. If I want a UL shelter, I want one pole and minimal weight (aka Plex Solo Lite).

I have an UL 3p tent that I use for both solos and trips with my husband 😂 It feels very weird to use alone, but it’s like 2.5lb so it’s hard to justify buying another.
