I got the zpacks trio for my AT trek in '22. my wife joined me for portions of the hike, and it worked out well for us. the extra weight was not too much a burden when I was alone, lots of room when she joined me. easy set up with trekking poles, only downside was poles in the middle of the doors.

did 1300 miles of the Appalachian Trail with my wife joining me for parts. bought a 3 person ultralight from z-packs, was great for both, and really roomy for me alone, not much heavier than the 2 person, only downer was footprint required made it a little less flexible for sites. it was a bit expensive, but worth it for us.

r/AppalachianTrailWhat's the best 2-person backpacking tent? Any suggestions?

I have hiked with: REI Half Dome. Too heavy but free standing and plenty of room for two. Probably 90 miles with it. A couple discontinued tents. About forty-fifty miles with them. A Big Agnes Copper Spur. The 2p gets feeling cramped for two after a while. About 1,200’miles on the AT with it. A triplex. Great tent, especially with the pole caps. Finished the AT and did a good part of the PCT with it. XMid Pro 2. It is smaller than the XMid 2 and gets to feeling crowded after a while—which is why they brought out the 2+. Great for one person though. Did more of the PCT and part of the Oregon Coast Trail with it. Off-set Trio. My wife and I will be back on the trail in a couple weeks with it. 43 square feet. It is a palace. Almost 2,000 miles with it, mostly on the CDT.

Much depends on your use. Are you driving out and camping in a campground? Basically car camping? Do you hike in 15 miles, camp and hike out? Do you use your tent just to sleep or do you hang out in it? Do you share your tent? It seems like it is just you and the dog and maybe one other person and it is out and back weekends at a campground. For long trails, backpacking months at a time, Durston tents are good for one or two people. The Pro 2p is what I’ve owned in the past. The XMid has a good price point. The REI half dome has more interior room and is easier to set up. For car camping and spending some time in the tent an Ozark Trails 4 person tent used for two is great (walked out to my garage to check ours). We got it at a garage sale but only use it for car camping bb My current primary tent is for backpacking with my wife, months at a time. I love it but I would not recommend the Zpacks Trio for your use. From what I can tell from your post weight doesn’t really matter. Interior comfort does. But without more none of us here can tell. Finally, most online lists are trying to get you to buy so they can rake in affiliate marketing kickbacks. That results in confusing and scattershot reviews and advice. Wish you luck.

r/UltralightDCF trekking pole tent for tall person, solo and duo backpacking

I bought the Zpacks Offset trio, the floor is quite long and the two small poles pull out the fabric from your face and feet. It works for most of my trips and it can comfortably accommodate two people (as these 2p UL tent's definitely cannot). I wouldn't recommend it for very humid climates, but that basically go for any single wall DCF tent.

The X-Mid (non-Pro) has the advantage of being a double-wall tent, so even if you brush against the walls, you won’t get wet. However, when it comes to height support, I find that Durston tends to overestimate. I'm 198 cm tall, and only X-Mid Pro 2+ is usable for solo use. I definitely wouldn’t go for the one-person X-Mid 1 if you're around 193 cm or taller. As for solo tents, the now-discontinued Zpacks Offset Solo was the only one that really works for me. A friend of mine, who’s 195 cm, uses the Tarptent Dipole 1 and says he can sleep comfortably in it, but considering the weight, I’d personally lean toward the Zpacks Offset Duo, X-Mid Pro 2+, or even the standard X-Mid 2 for solo use. If you want a tent for two people that can fit a tall person, get Zpacks Offset Trio.

Camping Gear covers so many areas, but I assume you mean your sleep kit and mess kit. Ultralight Backpacks: HMG (Hyperlite Mountain Gear), Z-Packs, Gossamer Gear Traditional Backpacks: Osprey, Gregory, Deuter is ayt Tents: Durston Gear, HMG, Z-Packs (Budget Tents: 3F UL Gear / Naturehike) Sleeping Bag: Western Mountaineering, NEMO, Feathered Friends, Therm-a-Rest Budget SB's: Naturehike) Sleeping Pad: NEMO, Therm-a-Rest, Sea to Summit (Budget: Naturehike) Pillow: Sea to Summit (Budget: Naturehike) Stove: MSR, JetBoil (Budget: Naturehike) Water Filtration System: Sawyer Squeeze, Lifestraw Sorry, but The North Face doesn't really excel in this area. The only exception is their Summit Series Line; they've leaned more towards streetwear, in my opinion. Plus, they've pulled out of local distribution in the Philippines. Just in Case you're asking about clothes and shoes, too easy. Arc'teryx, Outdoor Research, Norrona, Patagonia, Mammut, Rab (Budget: Decathlon, Naturehike, Ukay) Shoes: Salomon... and second, Hoka. (Budget: Same Brands but Ukay)
