70mai a500s(https://amzn.eu/d/dq6qDVK) have this for almost 5 years now, bought from Amazon still works good. Take note that when I'm at work, my car is parked under the sun. You also you got the back camera as well. (A bit of challenging to install though) If you want to have the 24hrs monitor, get the hardwire kit but it gets technical. I'm only using the normal USB.

I’m quite a fan of 70mai cameras, cheap and good quality. Bought both mine off AliExpress and they’ve been great. I’ve got an a500s and an a510, the 510 is much newer, but not sure if that’s the current model or not. $113 delivered was what I paid for that one in 2024 and $133 for the older one back in 2022. They just connect in with an included 12v (cigarette lighter) adapter, they don’t have batteries (so only run when the car is on), but you can have them wired directly to your car battery if you know what you’re doing or can find someone to do it.

70mai a500s gamit ko for more than 2 years na. Goods pa din naman and ang napalitan ko lang yung internal battery nya since narereset na yung date and time. Not a fan of rear view mirror style na dashcams since gusto ko pa din magamit yung rearview mirror as intended. Pwede sya sa cigarette port or usb. On my Xpander, meron akong inverter sa likod na cigarette port. That inverter has 2 usb ports and 1 outlet. Dun sa usb port ng inverter ko sinaksak yung 70mai dashcam and pinagapang ko yung wires papunta sa harap sa mga gilid gilid. Same with the rear cam. Buti mahaba yung default wires ng 70mai.

Wires can easily be tucked into corners of your interiors, hardwiring it would be to the battery which I'm iffy about, it does come with battery protection but I don't trust it. Also, usually just seeing the dash cam is enough of a deterrent

70Mai is good - I've one in the CX5, front and rear cameras - and bought direct from AliExpress - retailers here sell the same thing, just for more. Do the math. Also the Viofo seem to be getting traction well - pick anything with the Sony Starvis sensor really - they're good in day and great at night.

Running the cables from front to back is fairly straightforward if you're comfy with pulling the trim off ie kick boards and edge trims etc ... I installed a 70Mai a500s, front and rear camera set. The only tricky bit was threading the extender cable for the rear camera thru the hatch grommet... took some patience and a thin metal rod to get through the long grommet, to pull the cable thru.. once that was done, just set the camera up high looking back. I used the bought the extra power cabling for 'always on' mode In essence, rear cabling not that bad, just the rear grommet is a pita but not impossible.. just don't rush it, and don't pierce the grommet wall as you pass the rod thru to pull cables thru it... I'll see if I can find the YT video explaining this bit..

I have the 70mai a500s (or the Pro Plus+ as they call it). I considered it like paying for insurance. You pay for it and hope you never need to use it. And paying more for better quality/ dual channel like paying for the add-ons. The basic camera can prove you are not liable in a crash. A better quality one can catch number plates (in case of hit and run or smth). And a dual channel can catch rear end collisions. Also a small tip: keep voice recording on and in case of a crash, read out the number plates, just in case the camera did not capture it you can get it from the audio. Sidenote, do not chase after hit and runners. A fender bender could become something worse in their attempt to get away.

Nope. It goes from the lighter port, behind the dashboard, through the a pillar and through the headliner to the cam. And th rear channel just goes through the edge of the headliner near the doors to the back. If you have curtain airbags, you have to put the wires behind the airbags so it doesn't impede the deployment.

Get a 70mai dual channel dashcam that fits your budgets (preferably with a Sony Starvis 2 sensor) with hardwire kit. Just make sure that the hardwire kit is for the OBD2 port and not the fuses because hardwiring to fusebox may void warranty in case of a lot of car brands, but that’s not the case with a connection to the OBD2 port

a dashcam is super practical especially with that kind of commute -i’d go for it. look for one that records front + rear and has loop recording, 1080p is fine unless you wanna splurge for 4k. vantrue or 70mai are both solid brands. car cushions are also great tbh, but i’d make it a little bundle -like a “commute survival kit.” throw in a travel mug, some snacks, a good phone mount, and a mini air freshener so his car always feels fresh. if you want something a bit more unique or personal to pair with it, check [presents.chat](http://presents.chat) \-it’s full of practical gift ideas like this that don’t feel generic.

Get a 70mai or even better options like Redtiger or DDPAI and use a hardwire kit with it.. It will allow you to record 24/7 and don't forget to check if the hardwire kit has a voltage protection so that the battery will not be drained.

A rechargeable RTC battery should be fine, first because it should be located in the cool part of the camera, as Viofo's are, and second because the charge and discharge rates are extremely slow. A main lithium battery is a totally different matter, they need to be charged rapidly, with enough power to shutdown safely, before the camera can start recording, and they are big enough that they often don't fit in the cool part of the camera. 70mai are not too bad, their normal camera design allows the battery to stay reasonably cool, and they use Li Ion cells instead of Lipos. There have been a few reports of Viofo RTC batteries needing to replaced, but it is unusual, and I don't think it is due to heat problems.

He's lying, just trying to get you to buy their accessory dashcam. Just powering it through the 12v socket is no problem. But if you want 24/7 parking monitoring, then you'll have to hardwire it, which can cause warranty problems. So if you just want normal dashcam functionality go for any 70mai model. If you want parking monitoring also, go for the dealer one, provided they have that function, confirm that.. And get proper confirmation in writing that the dealer fitting will not cause any warranty problems in the future.

No, not hard at all, the camera modules are secured to the glass with a double-sided tape (comes included). Be careful not to obscure the radar at the front, if you have it (the plastic thing behind your rear view mirror) The included cables are plenty long enough to reach from front to back. I have mine just hanging on the passenger handles, but you definitely could pass them under the interior. For the backside camera, I’ve hidden the cable under the plastic coverings, and it pops out in the bottom corner, not obscuring the back view. I would probably like to hide everything under the panels, but I’m worried about damaging something, as I’m not that mechanically gifted – when I attempt to fix something, I usually then have to fix it 3 times over 😂

I still have a couple of $5 cameras that support loop recording. That's before tariff. They are all made in China. Yi is a long time brand name now and I recommend the 70 mai, about $30, with or without screen. Get a brand name SD card for reliability. For $30 I got a 4K 4 cam one, no wifi. Working fine. It also got the newer tape that I call Vudu tapes. It better than clear mounting tape, which are the only ones that work in CA. Do you want to read the license plate ? Want it at night? No cam can. So you can buy anything. Electronics are hard to break.

I use the Xiaomi 70 Mai series in all my cars. They are incredible value for money and the parking surveillance feature has unbelievable sensitivity. On top of that, my model creates a GPS breadcrumb map route for every journey included both in the video and as a standalone metric in the app. If you hardwire it, it can even record 24/7 in low-power mode when the car is parked. I believe some models even have a SIM-card slot and can upload/stream to the cloud so you can watch what’s going on around your car from a distance.
