70mai - A500S

Using 70mai A500S for about 3 years now. No issues so far. Decent front camera quality, although, rear camera quality could be better.

Why were you holding the Dashcam? I have been using an A500s 70mai for the last year, I do not even know if there is a heating issue, the only that matters is it hasn't stopped recording for a second and the video quality is quite good

Been using dahcams since 2017. Over 4 years I have used Yi Dashcam in my companys car. Made a mistake and used the regular Class 10 memory card and it failed after several months of using in autumn and winter. Then bought High Endurance Memory card and it is still in use (not in the same car) and works well. Since 2019 I have used 70mai model with external GPS module, not sure what is the name of the model. Using High Endurance card from the beginning and it still works (not in my car since 2022). Downside is that the GPS module became loose and somtimes it did not measure speed on the videos. From 2022 I am using 70mai A500s front and rear with hardwire kit and 128 GB SanDisk High Endurance card. Works well now although there have been some bad updates which made it almost unusable. Now that is fixed. Also, since it has batteries, during the summer when left in sunny place, sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes to cool down and start recording normally. During that time it creates time-lapse so in case something happens, I still have usable recording. For my next purchase I will go for some Starvis 2 sensor model (A510 or A810 from 70mai or even go to VIOFO to give it a try).

I back him. I have the A500S which I bought in 2021. It has given me no issues whatsoever. I just stuck it on the windshield on day 1 and forgot about it. I have used it in the scorching sun of coastal India where it feels extra hot due to the humidity. Parked my car there, in the sun, for two days straight and still no issues. Only issue that I have faced with it is, after the firmware updates, it showed me error a couple of times saying “memory card corrupted”. But this too, both the times, resolved on its own after keeping the dash cam switched on for some 15-20 mins. Overall the experience has been good. My friend and my cousin also use 70mai (both living in coastal India) and they have reported no issues with it. You can consider this dash cam.

I have the a500s and it's a great option. Only con I found is that max sd card option is limited to 128gb so I reduced the video resolution to get 12+ hours of front n rear recording. With a800s, you have the same issue of max storage of 128gb IIRC so not worth it as 4k recording may completely fill the sd card within 4-6 hours. 

Edit: Officially max 128gb is supported but some people claim 256gb is working for them. Gonna order that and report back. In any case, a500s is good enough and a800s seems overpriced at 16k but compare video quality and decide for yourself!

Didn't notice any overheating at all last year but recently it has been restarting sometimes. Not sure if that is because of overheating but annoying when this happens. It happened twice in my last drive (3 hr long) in the afternoon. I overlooked it but next time it happens, I should check how hot the camera gets and also try out another 12v charger that I have. I'm afraid I don't have anything conclusive for you right now as I just recently started facing this issue.

Don't purchase a500s in 2024. There are now dashcams with stravis 2 sensor. Difference in num plate readability during night is huge. Some starvis 2 dashcams include: 70mao m200, 70mai a510, vantrue n4 pro, most latest viofo dashcams

I've been using the 70mai a500s for close to 2 years now, never had an issue. The recordings are clear, and it handles heat alright. I have not hardwired it to the car battery though and probably will not.

Wires can easily be tucked into corners of your interiors, hardwiring it would be to the battery which I'm iffy about, it does come with battery protection but I don't trust it. Also, usually just seeing the dash cam is enough of a deterrent

Have the [70mai Front/Rear](https://a.co/d/cEjmATQ) in a similar setup except the dashcam is mounted on the left (driver's) side. That's incase I need to press the "Emergency Record" button as it's not voice-activated.

I have been using 70mai a500s dual from 2 years now. It’s on all my cars. I have never faced any issues with it. The video quality is also great. Just remember to get that lens that comes with it

I have the 70mai a500s (or the Pro Plus+ as they call it). I considered it like paying for insurance. You pay for it and hope you never need to use it. And paying more for better quality/ dual channel like paying for the add-ons. The basic camera can prove you are not liable in a crash. A better quality one can catch number plates (in case of hit and run or smth). And a dual channel can catch rear end collisions. Also a small tip: keep voice recording on and in case of a crash, read out the number plates, just in case the camera did not capture it you can get it from the audio. Sidenote, do not chase after hit and runners. A fender bender could become something worse in their attempt to get away.

I paid about 12k. It was for sale during bug billion for about 10k

My friends have bought the same one I have. Only have good things to say about 70mai other than the emergency video recordong being a bit too sensitive. Also have heard good things about ddpai.

Nope. It goes from the lighter port, behind the dashboard, through the a pillar and through the headliner to the cam. And th rear channel just goes through the edge of the headliner near the doors to the back. If you have curtain airbags, you have to put the wires behind the airbags so it doesn't impede the deployment.

I have a 70mai A500 since 3 years, had no issues till now 

A500s user here. The only issue I faced is it shows memory card corrupted sometimes on startup, but it got resolved after one or two restarts. Regarding the recording quality, you can see the vehicles clearly but the vehicle registration number isn’t getting captured when the vehicles are moving.

I have 70mai dashcam front and rear one it's expensive but worth it cuz incase someone rear ends u u have the recoding which will capture the number of the vehicle incase the vehicle which hit from behind doesn't stop so incase of accident u have proof to showcase

Yes, 70mai na 2 camera I think is the best, but medyo expensive. IMO worth it.

A rechargeable RTC battery should be fine, first because it should be located in the cool part of the camera, as Viofo's are, and second because the charge and discharge rates are extremely slow. A main lithium battery is a totally different matter, they need to be charged rapidly, with enough power to shutdown safely, before the camera can start recording, and they are big enough that they often don't fit in the cool part of the camera. 70mai are not too bad, their normal camera design allows the battery to stay reasonably cool, and they use Li Ion cells instead of Lipos. There have been a few reports of Viofo RTC batteries needing to replaced, but it is unusual, and I don't think it is due to heat problems.

I got this 70mai model, very happy with it. Didn’t hardwire, due to warranty considerations, plugged it into the trunk 12v socket. Works great, but the parking camera feature and 4g module will not work in this case — those would require hardwiring

No, not hard at all, the camera modules are secured to the glass with a double-sided tape (comes included). Be careful not to obscure the radar at the front, if you have it (the plastic thing behind your rear view mirror) The included cables are plenty long enough to reach from front to back. I have mine just hanging on the passenger handles, but you definitely could pass them under the interior. For the backside camera, I’ve hidden the cable under the plastic coverings, and it pops out in the bottom corner, not obscuring the back view. I would probably like to hide everything under the panels, but I’m worried about damaging something, as I’m not that mechanically gifted – when I attempt to fix something, I usually then have to fix it 3 times over 😂

My last 2 VIOFO’s didn’t last and had a lot of issues with intermittent recordings on the 70mai, so I’ve tried a cheaper GKU D700…wish me luck. Dad’s had one on his car for about a month and I can’t fault it. Front and rear quality is very good.

70mai. Good dashcam and much better app compared to Qubo

I use the Xiaomi 70 Mai series in all my cars. They are incredible value for money and the parking surveillance feature has unbelievable sensitivity. On top of that, my model creates a GPS breadcrumb map route for every journey included both in the video and as a standalone metric in the app. If you hardwire it, it can even record 24/7 in low-power mode when the car is parked. I believe some models even have a SIM-card slot and can upload/stream to the cloud so you can watch what’s going on around your car from a distance.

I have pretty good luck with 70mai dash cam, make sure you get some good SD cards, those are frequently overlooked, samsung endurance cards are fantastic for dash cams, check them periodically.

I’ve had the opposite experience with 70mai. I’ve had a 70mai in my car for over 2 years now and I live in Arizona where it’s 40c+ for a good chunk of the year and I’ve never had issues. My parents have one in Bangalore and they’ve never had issues either. Yours might have been defective

A family friend gifted my father a dash cam from the us. It was from a brand called Nexar. Back then it had worldwide support. The product was amazing. It synced to its own cloud storage live. Sadly they discontinued the support to India. I bought a Qubo one few days ago. It’s pretty good. I personally use 70mai. It’s the same. Features and all.
