For dashcams I personally use the 7omai A800s 4K dashcam. It’s been really good so far. I’ve conntected it to the usb hub so when I turn on the car it automatically turns on as well. The rear camera is useless since it always points upwards. So you’ll need to buy a rear camera mount for it.

I bought the Xiaomi A800s 4k camera set. Can be found for around $280 with the 1080p rear camera, and hardwire kit. Quality is absolutely awesome. Sony lens etc. I've had one installed in my work ute for just under 4 years, baking in the Qld sun and it still looks brand new and works perfectly. Takes me 3 minutes to jump on the app and download a clip on the fly if need be. I bought my kit on eBay just easier to grab it there. Also recommend grabbing a fuse tap to suit the type of fuse in your car so there is zero cutting of wires etc, just tap into a constant power source and good to go. Also grab a high speed micro SD card for it. I get 6hours of constant 4k front, 1080p rear, with audio. Parking mode saves all captured motion and backtracks I think 15second before the trigger.

Get an A800S dashcam on Aliexpress (made by 70mai - Xiaomi). It's like 150 USD if you want the bundle with front+rear cameras and international shipping. https://70mai.store/collections/dash-cam/products/a800s-dash-cam Been using one for almost two years. People don't even notice the camera installed in the back of the rearview mirror, it has parking mode (using a hardwire kit), you can get video and photos over wifi or by taking out the SD card, and it records in 4K. It also has GPS to include coordinates and speed in your recordings. I live in Mexico in a place where temps can get up to 45°C (113°F) and by installing it on the black part of the windshield the camera doesn't get very hot.

I've owned several Viofos and I don't trust them anymore with their built in capacitors that died. I now have 70mai brand. Have the model A800S

I have the a500s and it's a great option. Only con I found is that max sd card option is limited to 128gb so I reduced the video resolution to get 12+ hours of front n rear recording. With a800s, you have the same issue of max storage of 128gb IIRC so not worth it as 4k recording may completely fill the sd card within 4-6 hours

The 70mai A800/A810 cameras do 4k60, but I've had a couple where the battery has failed. Shame they don't make one with a capacitor.

If you are going to rely heavily on parking mode you may want to consider the Thinkware U3000. One of the U3000 parking mode features is "radar" parking mode that has a very low current draw when sitting idle, check out this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylqMhRnpyFo) for more context on its function. The Rove R3 or Vantrue N4 pro aren't dash cams I have ever considered/used so can't comment on them. I've been using the Viofo brand for like 6 years having no complaints whatsoever with their reliability. Last couple of years I've also been using the Wolfbox G900 rear view mirror dash cam w/o issue, actually one of my fav dash cam form factors ever in the 14+ years using them. Video resolution front and rear (especially rear), could be better so we are just waiting on the Wolfbox G900 Pro to be released here in Canada. Also have several 70mai dash cams - 1S, M500**\***, A800S, A810, Omni X200, S500**\*** which is a rear view mirror dash cam - those with an **\*** are currently in use... Other than the S500 rear view mirror dash cam all the other 70mai dash cams I use have a physical battery rather than the preferred capacitor, I've never had an issue with any of them though.

So is this one or multiple 70mai dash cams you've had issues with? Just curious as my 1S, M500, Omni, A800S, A810, S500, 70mai dash cams have all been non-problematic.

I got a 70mai 4K dashcam front and rear with the HW kit. Haven’t had tints long enough to mount it yet and haven’t done the HW kit, but the front mounts behind the rear view mirror on the black area itself and looks very clean. I’ll post a picture of the front and the current temporary wiring later

I have a ford fusion energi and I installed 70mai front and rear camera hardwired so it works even when the car is off cost me a little less than $200 and I installed everything myself super easy if you know what your doing and it records the rear and the front. Definitely worth it since ford doesn’t do anything about cameras smfh

A rechargeable RTC battery should be fine, first because it should be located in the cool part of the camera, as Viofo's are, and second because the charge and discharge rates are extremely slow. A main lithium battery is a totally different matter, they need to be charged rapidly, with enough power to shutdown safely, before the camera can start recording, and they are big enough that they often don't fit in the cool part of the camera. 70mai are not too bad, their normal camera design allows the battery to stay reasonably cool, and they use Li Ion cells instead of Lipos. There have been a few reports of Viofo RTC batteries needing to replaced, but it is unusual, and I don't think it is due to heat problems.

Please try out Sound FX guys in Andheri East Good location, and good service. I got dashcam installed on my Nexon a couple of months ago and I am very happy with the service (70mai, bought it from them - same price as Amazon) [https://maps.app.goo.gl/p6EchRCvuWYaaj448](https://maps.app.goo.gl/p6EchRCvuWYaaj448) They were installing dash cams on a BMW and an Audi the same time as mine - so they can handle your Hector I am sure

I got this 70mai model, very happy with it. Didn’t hardwire, due to warranty considerations, plugged it into the trunk 12v socket. Works great, but the parking camera feature and 4g module will not work in this case — those would require hardwiring

No, not hard at all, the camera modules are secured to the glass with a double-sided tape (comes included). Be careful not to obscure the radar at the front, if you have it (the plastic thing behind your rear view mirror) The included cables are plenty long enough to reach from front to back. I have mine just hanging on the passenger handles, but you definitely could pass them under the interior. For the backside camera, I’ve hidden the cable under the plastic coverings, and it pops out in the bottom corner, not obscuring the back view. I would probably like to hide everything under the panels, but I’m worried about damaging something, as I’m not that mechanically gifted – when I attempt to fix something, I usually then have to fix it 3 times over 😂

My last 2 VIOFO’s didn’t last and had a lot of issues with intermittent recordings on the 70mai, so I’ve tried a cheaper GKU D700…wish me luck. Dad’s had one on his car for about a month and I can’t fault it. Front and rear quality is very good.

I use the Xiaomi 70 Mai series in all my cars. They are incredible value for money and the parking surveillance feature has unbelievable sensitivity. On top of that, my model creates a GPS breadcrumb map route for every journey included both in the video and as a standalone metric in the app. If you hardwire it, it can even record 24/7 in low-power mode when the car is parked. I believe some models even have a SIM-card slot and can upload/stream to the cloud so you can watch what’s going on around your car from a distance.

I’ve bought 70mai for all of my cars over the years. They’re dirt cheap, don’t have a screen but just record onto an sd card. They announce they’re recording when you turn on and just do their job. Super robust, can deal with the insane internal temp of a summer and the ice cold of a Colorado winter. I had one fail after 3 years (picture was tinted purple) but it was so cheap to replace, I didn’t care.

Since the LTT video, the Sony Starvis 2 sensor cams have become more common. They have better HDR (they combine one bright frame then one dark frame) which adds plate readability at night, at the expense of some artifacts or motion blur during the day. It is still not a perfect solution but does improve video quality in some situations. 70mai and Viofo make very good budget cams. A big problem is that there are still so many fake spec garbage cams on the market, and marketplaces have done nothing to crack down on sellers who outright lie about their products to get them to the top with fake reviews or fake specs.

r/LinusTechTips • LTT mentioned by ChrisFix (I’d actually love an updated dashcam video, as perhaps some stuff has changed since, or maybe a DIY project using decent sensors) ->

I use a 70mai, front only, placed in front of the rear view mirror. It has no impact on Eyesight. Operating it behind the mirror is inconvenient, but it does slide off the mount if necessary. It has wifi for interfacing, but I usually just swap out the memory card and review on my PC. I don't watch the screen in use, but I can pretty easily see the status led.

A family friend gifted my father a dash cam from the us. It was from a brand called Nexar. Back then it had worldwide support. The product was amazing. It synced to its own cloud storage live. Sadly they discontinued the support to India. I bought a Qubo one few days ago. It’s pretty good. I personally use 70mai. It’s the same. Features and all.
