My car (also an outside-car in a hot climate) runs a dashcam with a capacitor and it's been 5.5yrs, going strong. Edit: Hardwired Blackvue DR590w-1ch.
An older Blackvue 590 in one vehicle, and a Memento M7 in the other.
[https://www.blackboxmycar.ca/](https://www.blackboxmycar.ca/) They are in Vancouver, and I've picked up a few when they are on sale. I have 2x Blackvue 590s and they seem to work really well.
Fitcam is very mediocre. Β A blackvue is superior from a device/app/reliability standpoint. Β I have mine installed and i canβt see it from the driver seat so I would say that is discrete. Β
Older cam? Β My previous blackvue died but it was in service for 7 years and was an older model with poor cooling. Β My new one tells me when starts recording, changes mode, has an event or has a problem with the card - so if I donβt hear the prompts then I know something is off. Β
Fitcam failed us on the wifeβs car when she was in a wreck. Β Itβs loop recording stopped without any way for us to know. Β I would not purchase another and their software and app suck compared to other options. Β People like it because it installs easy but it is mediocre. Β A Blackvue dr590 is way better and still easy to install especially since Ford gave us functioning spare fuse slots for both acc and batt+. Β
Blackvue 1080p 60fps, yeah its great. No frills, no battery to explode (uses a supercapacitor instead to save video after shutdown), and the sd card is really easy to get files off with a small usb c to micro sd adapter
For fleet we often do blackvue DR-series with a tamperproof case. That way, it can not be unplugged. Some options for LTE models for remote viewing capabilities. Pricing will vary depending on where you are.
I use a Black Vue dash cam w a small Black Vue auxiliary battery that powers the camera when the vehicle is parked.
Pretty much just keeps on working.
Th auxiliary battery is charged from the cig power port - when the vehicle is running
I got mine from Black Vue after reading up on them. I paid about $249. Promptly got rear ended a month later and it paid for itself. I knew nothing about dash cams but their site was informative
You'd get better advice from the nerds in the dashcam subreddits. But I have a blackvur and it's great. Typically Viofo is the one to get though.
