"The app. It's a complete pain in the ass to view any footage ... it won't update the firmware because the dashcam connects to my phone via wifi and if it's connected via wifi, there's not any actual Internet access from the cellular signal so it can never update 🤣 what a joke."
I'm using a BlackVue DR590X-2CH which costs around 380+. While more expensive than other brands, it has served me well especially since you can read number plates easily with the video it captures
Had my BlackVue 2-CH (front and back) installed at Autotrend Car Accessories (at Toa Payoh). Wire was neatly tucked and workmanship was solid! Also has parking mode function enabled as requested. Was about $450 all in.
Main cost was the BlackVue front and rear cameras themselves at $380+. Installation was $60 iirc. Could you send me the link to the 4k front and rear cameras for $100? I’ll check it out next year when I switch cars
Viofo A229 2-CH is considered the gold standard of features to cost in a dash cam. The downside to the design is because the dash cam has a screen on the body, the whole assembly is enormous, which needs to be installed offset if your car has a honda sense module behind the mirror. I have this on my mom's CRV and it's kinda massive. But I do like how it works out. Personally, running a Blackvue DR590X-2CH, replacing an older DR590W-2CH that lasted just north of 3 years. Things I like about the Blackvue: 1. The body is low profile, which hides behind my rearview mirror without bothering me. It's even centered. 2. The app is good, easy to learn and use 3. Recording is reliable with a good quality Endurance spec memory card. 4. There are vendors that sell Blackvue that will go out of their way to help you in a pinch. 5. The components are dead simple if you aren't afraid of soldering. Things I don't like about the Blackvue: 1. no customer support. They'll even steal your money, which happened to me. 2. Longevity is questionable, as I had to replace my first one within a few years of ownership. Other notes: Highly recommend /u/blackboxmycar and their shop https://www.blackboxmycar.com/
Recently joined the dashcam club with the BlackVue 590x 2 channel. Love it. Pulling up the videos from the app takes a second or two and could be faster but the peace of mind as people around me drive like hot garbage has been wonderful Connecting via the built in WiFi can be a little annoying but once you figure it out, it connects everytime
I use a BlackVue dr590x 2channel. It’s been fantastic. My wife’s accord has a FitCamX. I like it better because of its ease of install and integration into the rear view mirror sensor pack. It’s way more discreet than my BlackVue. Both are solid cameras though in my experience.
A lot of people recommend fitcamX because of the sleek install - but as a camera, especially a reliable one - it is sub par. The cam has loop recording issue and the app sucks. I have one in my wife’s car and speak from experience, especially when it failed to record a crash. Many other better options. The blackvue dr590x 2 channel is superior option in a similar price range what I have in my truck and our fuse panel in the passenger footwell has two open fuse slots for acc and hot power. Super easy install.
Pretty easy. Some people run the wires down low, I go along the upper trim. Use a voltmeter to determine which open slots in the fuse panel are 12v and acc. As the wires transition along the upper trim across the top of the windshield, you can also use little stick on wire hooks to assist keeping it in place. I used a plastic trim tool for the stuffing/wedging of the wire along the trim to get to the rear camera which is placed driver side. I have the sliding rear window which slides passenger side so the best side to place the camera is driver side. I have the camera set at 12.5v cutoff.
Fitcam is very mediocre. A blackvue is superior from a device/app/reliability standpoint. I have mine installed and i can’t see it from the driver seat so I would say that is discrete.
Older cam? My previous blackvue died but it was in service for 7 years and was an older model with poor cooling. My new one tells me when starts recording, changes mode, has an event or has a problem with the card - so if I don’t hear the prompts then I know something is off.
Fitcam failed us on the wife’s car when she was in a wreck. It’s loop recording stopped without any way for us to know. I would not purchase another and their software and app suck compared to other options. People like it because it installs easy but it is mediocre. A Blackvue dr590 is way better and still easy to install especially since Ford gave us functioning spare fuse slots for both acc and batt+.
The Blackvue DR590X is the usual go to for the least obtrusive. I have a knockoff version from Focuway but I would not recommend it unless you're really strapped for cash.
All 3 of my household vehicles have BlackVue590X series. Excellent quality and would recommend. Hardwired them as well myself. They also come with cigarette lighter plug as well.
An older Blackvue 590 in one vehicle, and a Memento M7 in the other.
[https://www.blackboxmycar.ca/](https://www.blackboxmycar.ca/) They are in Vancouver, and I've picked up a few when they are on sale. I have 2x Blackvue 590s and they seem to work really well.
Bought a blackvue dual front & back camera with parking mode. Watched YouTube videos of day and night performance and readability of license plates. Video clips are corded in 60 second increments with overlap start and finish. Last month got rear ended by person on the phone. They didn’t know I had a camera and they called the cops. I downloaded the event clip from the mobile app and was able to show the video to the police on the spot. The other driver got a ticket for using the phone.
